How to create hard link from other photo media folders to photo shared folder in DSM?

I have tried to create hard links to the /photo default shared folder in DSM. The links appear in /photo but I cant see the photos from the linked folders in Photostation. I did just the other day discover the enable Allow symbolic links within shared folders seitch in file services and have turned that on. I have been using the command similar to mount --bind /volume1/SharedFolder/Set1/ /volume1/photo/Test123. I have then reindexed the photostation app but cant see photos. Any ideas please. Been trying for months as I also use lightroom and need to sync external drives containing specialist drone footage rather than having to duplicate copies to /photo

TS-109 Pro not visible?

Bought a second hand TS-109 Pro, downloaded QFinder Pro and the latest firmware 3.3.3. All installed correctly but cannot see it on the network or map a drive in windows 10
When I click Details in QFinder Pro, it comes up with a log in screen where I put default username and password, the it does a little search for a few seconds and closes down???
When I click on Network Drives, there is nothing to select in the Select IP Address dropdown box???
I know it's an old system but I wanted to try it out to share music and videos on my network.
Thanks in advance

Any MEMTEST Results for > 8GB+ QNAP TS-x53D??

I'm interested in the QNAP TS-453D. NASCompares has shown it can work with 2x 16GB (32GB) capacity, HOWEVER, no conclusive memory tests were performed! Everyone, including NASCompares, just assumes if QTS can launch everything is working. Ridiculous.
Has anyone installed more than 8GB then run MEMTEST to confirm the CPU can actually read/write beyond the Intel-stated 8GB limit?
Having QTS simply boot or just running a VM within QTS while not using it are terrible tests considering how efficiently OS's and CPU's can handle resources these days.
A valid test would be to fill the memory beyond the advertised 8GB capacity and see what happens.

Hi,
I currently have a Synology 918+ with 4 8TB drives in them. I am running an SHR-2 so my total capacity is about 14 TB. I have a pretty big media server these days and it's constantly getting updated with new content. I also use the NAS for surveillance station which has about 4 cameras feeding into it and keeping storage for ~7 days.
Problem Statement:
My problem is that I am running out of storage space quickly. As of today I have about 750GB left. I do not want the risk of losing a lot of my data (movies, videos, files) because it would be very hard to get back so, I like the SHR-2 approve since it's a 2 disk failover. I run about 5 docker containers on it as well. I have researched upgrading the NAS but noticed that not as many of the 6 bay NAS units support transcoding like the 918+. I share my media server with a bunch of friends / family so I try to support multiple devices to avoid transcoding and allow direct play. Most content I'm converting using ffmpeg.

QNAP QGD-1600P switch and QNAP QXG-10G2T-107 10 GbE expansion card?

I bought the QXG-10G2T-107 for my 1600P after checking in the QNAP compatibility table for suitable cards for my switch. When I put the card in the switch will not boot, it just hangs on "booting". I have an M.2 NVMe SSD drive card in the switch that works fine. Could anyone help me with some thoughts as to why the card does not seem to be compatible- many thanks

Migration from Synology 8-bay NAS to 6-bay NAS with expansion enclosure?

Hi, Please can you help a noob.
I have an 8-bay Synology DS1815+ (out of warranty) which has failed to power on after a reload. I tested and tried new PSU - no blue light - no motherboard. So I'm resigned to get a replacement Synology NAS (I'm using SHR).
I've seen the excellent youtube vid comparing DS1621XS+ and DS3617XS.
In my DS1815+ I have 8 drives: 4x6TB, 2x4TB and 2x18TB WD181KRYZ Gold new drives). The config uses SHR - with two volumes (6 disks and 2 disks).
The questions I have:
I) Will I be able to migrate to a DS1621XS+ by first installing just 6 drives (one volume) and then slowly reducing the number of disks to enable to add second volume
ii) If not, will I be able to use a DS1621XS+ (6 bay) + expansion (DX517) to facilitate an initial migration to the new platform. I appreciate long term best not to have a volume split via eSATA.
iii) or am I forced to use an 8 or more bay chassis for the initial migration.
Really appreciate your help with this
:-)

Looking for Shallow Rackmount NAS Ideas?

Am looking for the right NAS to support both storage and VM capability. Needs to be rack mounted and no more than 310-320 mm deep. Was looking at Synology DS918, but it's not really VM capable. Want to run 2-3 OS's in VMs with 2-3 users. Needs to support MAC and Windows back-ups. Like SHS-2 RAID, but not wed to it. Optimize storage space with reliable back-up. Thinking I'll load initially with 4x 1TB Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E1T0B/AM) or similar.

Best NAS for remote access of video and pdf via iPad?

Which NAS, under $2k and minimum of 4TB RAID-1, is best for allowing easy setup and I/F with remote Internet access, iPad local/remote access, Win-10 PC Control/access and Samsung TV local DLNA? Sonos connectivity also desired-not required as well as easy identification and restoration of damaged HDD in RAID-1 and Control O/S independence. My Zyxel NSA320 broke when I upgraded my PC to Win-10, so I’m looking for a replacement with more features and easier setup.
