  Which NAS should I buy???
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-30-2024, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi

After watching your DS224+ YouTube video, I was very impressed and thought that I'd seek your opinion. TBH, I tend to use Google Drive for any documents I need fully backed up so my need for a NAS is mainly for video footage from my IP cameras - 6 x Axis cameras streaming 3+MP video files when motion is detected, overwritten every 2 weeks. I've had a DS211J and, on the whole, have been hugely underwhelmed. It's recently fallen off the network (again!) and is completely unreachable. I can see it with Synology Assistant but it has no MAC address, the IP address is unreachable and it's just a total pita. I can rebuild a reinstall the DSM (6.2.4) and it'll work again for a bit but as I last did this just 3 days ago, I'm losing patience and will likely drop kick it into the path of a passing train.

When the Synology NAS works I've been impressed with their software and apps (when they don't crash and hang the NAS) so could be persuaded to remain with Synology.

  Qnap NAS and KODI
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-30-2024, 05:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I have followed your video about installing KODI without any problems but when I click on the KODI Matrix Icon to open the App it just shows me the screen that says open, stop or remove but doesn't load. I have stopped PLEX in case that was the problem and the software has loaded as it shows 452.63MB loaded. Any idea why it will not run?

  Asustor - FS68 SSD Heatlink
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-30-2024, 04:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I am going to buy the newAsustor Flashstor 6 Gen 2 (FS6806X) and was going to use Seagate FireCuda 530R 4TB.

My questions are
- should I buy model ZP4000GM30063 (without Heatsink) and buy the" M.2 Heatsinks for Flashstor (FS67/FS68) and AS-T10G3"
OR
ZP4000GM3A073 (with heatsink)
- which is better route to go?
- will the ZP4000GM3A073 (with heatsink) fit, tried Asustor technical support, but they couldn't even give me the measurements that will fit!

My preference is to purchase ZP4000GM3A073 (with heatsink), but have concerns as it is not listed as a compatible SSD

Combining TerrMaster F6-424 Max Ethernet Ports
Posted by: Dean - 12-30-2024, 03:22 PM - Forum: Technical Support - Replies (1)

I’ve recently purchased the TerraMaster F6-424 Max and I’m 70 years old and WAY over my head regarding technology. My goal is faster move times transferring 50 Gb files from the NAS to and from my MacBook Pro M-1. I’m a photographer storing huge files on an older TerraMaster F4-420 and have been frustrated at the slow response times. (Currently I’ve maxed out my 18 Tb drives on this machine.) I’d like to take advantage of the Max’s 2 10Gb NICs (Ethernet ports) by combining them to 20 Gb. Could someone explain what I need to do and/or buy to make this happen?

  NAS choice
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-30-2024, 12:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I have a decent mini-PC hosting my files and containers. I plan to use more self-hosted services to store personal files like photos, videos, and music. Therefore, I need a NAS to provide more storage capacity and redundancy/parity to increase services' reliability.
The problem is that there are too many options, and it is hard to decide. I could also build one myself, but it requires a lot of time to research the correct components, which I do not have now. This is my first NAS, so buying a ready-to-go option seems more appropriate. If possible, I would like to choose the NAS OS. I don't need much horsepower for the NAS as I intend to use the mini-PC for demanding operations.
These are the options I'm considering:
- AOOSTAR WTR PRO 4 bay N100 Nas Mini PC
- ORICO MetaBox Pro 5 Bay NAS Storage System
- UGREEN NASync DXP4800
- TERRAMASTER F4-424 PRO
Could you please provide any advice?

1080p video editing on QNAP TS-453d with 8GB RAM
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-29-2024, 10:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (3)

Is it possible to edit 1080p video on my TS-453d. In watching your videos it seems I need to add a PCIe 10G card to the NAS to truly be able to edit video properly - correct?
Given the PCIe Gen 2 x2 slot in the NAS what would be best for me to add:
1. Single port QNAP QXG-10G1T card
2. QNAP QM2-2P10G1TB (2 x PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD & 1 x 10GbE)
Given the bandwidth limitation on the NAS PCIe slot, would # 2 above even make sense?

Thanks for your advise and thank you for the great information you share on your YouTube channel and your website. Very helpful!!

  TerraMaster F4-424
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-28-2024, 04:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have set up the NAS f4-424 and have it connected to the network and have set up the volumes and started to move files into a PLEX folder but every time I have o shut it down to adjust hardware I am getting notification about abnormal shut down. I am holding the power button down until it goes dark but is there a better way to shut it down? Also is there a way to move the TOS software from one of the Hard Drives to on of the NVMe M.2 drives?

Thank you,
Brian

Looking advice for pre-built NAS i.e Synology/QNAP or DIY NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-28-2024, 04:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I want to build a Homelab server to support docker, virtualization, NAS, and media servers.

1. I was inclined toward making a DIY NAS because it will have better specs & upgradability options but a pre-built NAS will have OS support & better security I guess. I have a budget of $300-$400 for the device without an HDD.
2. Which one should I choose SSD/ HDD if I go for the pre-built machine.
