  After-market 10gbe?

Looking for after-market 10gbe solutions to use a number of 8TB drives I have. Confusing is which models have 10gbe default as opposed to via an upgrade.

Is there a QNAP/ Synology app/shortcut to just download all the iCloud photos at once?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hello,

I have a QNAP TS-453BT3 and I am trying to download all of my wife's photos on to my QNAP.

Currently she has 30,000 photos on her iCloud, but iCloud only allows me to download 1,000 at a time, which is taking a VERY long time.

is there a QNAP app/short cut to just download all the photos at once?

Ideally, I would download it the evening before then wake up and organize them all the next morning.

Thanks!

4K editing over WiFi - DAS connected to wifi 6 router?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Video/Photo Editing - Replies (2)

Hi!

I'm trying to figure out a storage solution that would be easily accessible no matter where I'm located. It makes sense to go for a NAS, but I'm interested if a DAS with a good router could be an option. I'm very interested in having a wireless connection at home that would be capable of editing 4k video straight off of wifi. I'm hoping maybe wifi 6 could work here? I really just started searching for information and there's a lot of factors and limitations that I don't understand yet. That's the reason why I'm writing.

Thinking about if pairing Terramaster D5 with Asus rt-ax89x router could work to achieve this?

Best wishes,
Jonas

  Music organisation on my DS-218+?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hello,

I store music on my NAS. Its a mirror of the Music folder/subsfolders I have on my home iMac.
Do you have any recommentations on keep the music library clean/easily managed with correct id3 metadata?

Bliss looks good but is expensive.

  Best NAS for me?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi,
I am trying to find what's the best NAS for me for home use. I want to be able to share and access my files from anywhere. I want to use it as a music server and be able to secure it down to individual file access. I would like to be able to use it to view pics and videos on my smart tv's. It would be used by my partner and son so it needs to be able to be accessed via a mobile (iphone) and i want to be able to access all of my files from anywhere in the world.
There is so much out there i was looking at the synology range but even they do loads. Probably a 2 bay with 2 4TB drives but what sort of processor size and memory do you think i will need? My son has a Xbox that he only has online games so can they store this for him?
Thanks
Mike

NAS for BDR, File Server, and Cloud Access?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Rob, wow, great website (nascompares.com) and YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFyP17HoU-vpxhIpGXnXx2g). Thank you!

We are an SMB with a small IT budget. We have an older Windows 2003 "File and Print" server. It's out of support, and hardware-wise, on it's last legs.

Focusing on Backup & Disaster Recovery (BDR), in our efforts to find an affordable (for us) solution, we stumbled on Synology DS1018+ vs QNAP TS-673-8G-US. (6 bays for future growth, 4 x 4TB drives, RAID-6). We are thinking of getting two of these NASs: one for on-premise, one for offsite.

Note: we will not be using the extra functionality, eg- surveillance or media server. Our focus is BDR, file server and cloud accessibility

Goals - Can these NASs meets these needs?

1) For backups -- Backup data from a Windows 2003 server to NAS, guessing via SMB shares (first-party or third-party app is fine)
2) For BDR -- Synchronize data from one on-premise appliance to another offsite appliance)
3) For file server -- if Windows 2003 server does have a hardware failure and dies, could we use the NAS as a replacement file server on our Windows network (via LDAP or Active Directory integration)? With the added possibility that I could remap Windows users drive letters that point to shares on Windows 2003 to "shares" on the QNAP.
4) Now that users are working from home because of COVID-19, offer users the ability to access the NAS (with all of our company's Windows-based data) from a cloud portal.

Thank you, KJS, Sys Admin

  Mesh and NAS?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-28-2020, 03:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I currently have virgin broadband 200Mb which on a wired connection is fast but wifi is poor with multiple devices connected. This is the main reason for upgrading now. I dont have any real need for improved range just yet but will do in the future. The virgin router has wired connections 4 devices - TV, XBOX, Sonos and STB.

I saw your youtube video comparing synology and google mesh systems at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFl1w0d9sMs. I am leaning toward the synology but what I was not sure of from the video was whther I would need both the synology MR2200ac and RT2600ac. If the RT2600ac is required just to give ethernet connections, could I get the MR2200ac and use that with an ethernet switch (there are some spare ones knowking about in the office)

Also, Im looking for a NAS solution to give me 1TB storage. A friend has used a synology NAS DS918+ and is very happy with it. Is this something you would recommend. I would also need the actual drives to put in the NAS system as well.

I would appreciate your advice

Thanks

T
