  new to NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2022, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

I'm currently using an online subscription for cloud services, and I would like to have my own storage and backups, however, having an app that I can pull up my files is important as well. Is there anything that is simple enough for a 1st time user to get? My main focus is security and privacy. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2022, 01:15 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hi sir!

I am an EX2 -ULTRA user. I plan to upgrade to 4 bay NAS. I am strongly considering WD PR 4100 (familiar software/basic NAS functions). The news of end of support in 2026. are worrying me. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you

Neven

Newbie Question About QNAP NAS Backups ?
Posted by: DaveyP - 05-31-2022, 03:56 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a new 253D and want to do daily backups of the entire thing to the cloud and to my old 253A. I have successfully done the first one of each using HBS 3. I manually nominated each (every) source folder. What happens as I need to create new folders as time goes by - do I need to recreate a new backup job each time I do to include the new folders I add, or is there a way of "backup whole NAS" that I can set up and run automatically from the get go that will automatically pick up and add new folders to the daily backup as I create them?

Help me to not have buyer's remorse - To Buy to Not to Buy in 2022?
Posted by: Nicolus - 05-24-2022, 01:28 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Originally sent to NAS Compares - Awaiting reply. So I also posted it here.

Good morning and thank you and your entire group of behind-the-scenes people. I always see comments in a variety of places where people say, oh that guy or girl is doing it for monetary reasons. Somehow, I feel like there are a lot easier ways to make money in life than content producing. So really thank you.

Thanks to your videos I’ve realized that this is NOT the year to buy a NAS. Seems like both Synology and QNAP have a 2-3 year product cycle and given that I am looking for QNAP purchase, nothing has really come out worth commenting on for 2 years now. If you could guide me, I’d appreciate it.

<li>2.5 Gb Ethernet (but if something comes with 10 Gb now and it’s cheaper than an add-on card, meh, ok, why not, I’ll spend a couple of $100 more just to not regret not having it at the start)</li>

Based on your videos I do like the TS-h973AX, but I also really like the TVS-872X-i5 or, again to not have buyer’s remorse, the TVS-872XT-i7.

In closing, I already have 8 brand new 8TB 7.2K RPM NLSAS 12Gbps 512e 3.5in Internal Bay Hard Drive from a duplicate order from Dell and a PM961 NVMe 256 GB Samsung ready to do something with.

Oh and I am American, but I live in Romania now. So I don’t know if I should buy something when I go to the US or buy something here. My “home” is Poland.

My budget is $1500 to $2500

I value all your efforts and look forward to your advice.

Dbrand & Heatsink Combo: System Impact?
Posted by: Conner Pierce - 05-17-2022, 02:50 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I own a PS5 and the Dbrand 2.0 plates, which have the vents located near the fans, but I am very interested in purchasing a PS5-designed heatsink to go alongside them, as well as a SSD. I know NASCompares has uploaded videos regarding these, but I have a specific need that I’d like to have addressed. What PS5-designed heatsink would be the most beneficial when regarding the temperature of the PS5 console as a whole both long-term and short-term as the main priority and the SSD as the secondary concern, while keeping in mind factors such as the Dbrand 2.0 plates ventilation and the possibility of additional heat being drawn into the console over the top of/from the heatsink? At the moment I am considering 3 potential options: ElecGear, Sabrent, and the PNY. I know the PNY is somewhat of a different story, but I am still curious as to which one of these would have the best results in regard to my preferences? Also, I am willing to spend as much as needed in order to accomplish even a small amount of success towards my goal, so money is not an issue in this consideration. Thank you for your time; please give the most accurate answer you are able to, even if it means that I will have to wait a longer amount of time for a response!

Issue migrating Plex Media Server folder from existing Qnap NAS to new Qnap NAS?
Posted by: Grizzer0117 - 05-15-2022, 01:48 PM - Forum: Home Multimedia - Replies (1)

Hello,
I have upgraded from a Qnap TS-251B (old NAS) to a TS-653D (new NAS). I am trying to migrate my Plex Media Server Metadata to the new NAS. Before migrating, I watched the NAS Compares YouTube video "How To Migrate Export/Move Your PLEX Folder to a New NAS?" I ensured both the old and new NAS are using QTS and have the same firmware and also made sure they both have the same Plex Media Server build. I enabled ssh on the old and new NAS and was able to connect using FileZilla via sftp (I have a mac so I can't use WinSCP). I copied the Plex Media Server folder from the old NAS to my computer with no problem. After it completed, I tried to overwrite the Plex Media Server folder on the new NAS and received a "write: permission denied; file transfer error." I also tried to delete the existing Plex Media Server folder on the new NAS with the same result..."write: permission denied; file transfer error." I even tried to change the attributes for the Plex Media Server folder and get "permission denied" error. All of these attempts were made while logged into the server through FileZilla with my admin name and password and used port 22. I looked in the control panel of the new NAS to see if there is a setting somewhere but only have settings for shared folders. I need write access to the Plex Media Server folder that is located at /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex media Server.

In the example screenshot I only tried to copy the Preferences.xml file over but I get the write: permission denied; file transfer error for all files. Is there something that I am missing?

How to add second hard drive to working QNAP TS-230?
Posted by: dleiber - 05-09-2022, 07:51 PM - Forum: NAS upgrades - Replies (2)

I have an existing TS-230 NAS with one Seagate Ironwolf 4TB drive. It's been working for a few months. I have a 2TB WD Purple Surveillance HD from my previous QNAP TS-128A NAS. Can I add the 2TB drive to the TS-230 even though it's not the same type/size as the 4TB? I don't need RAID. I just want more storage space. I'm a novice. Any tricks to doing this? Thanks.
