I currently use 1TB Netgear ReadyNAS bought in 2013 and it's running fine, though I get complaints from Roon at times saying it can't stream music from the device.
I use the NAS as a repository for backups of my main computer, for backups of two web-sites (which are now largely static and don't change) and for storing photos and music. The music I now stream from a dedicated Roon Core running on a micro computer.
I use the NAS to create accounts for the two users in the house, with their own storage areas. I don't host a mail service nor a web server nor any outward facing services.
ReadyNAS stopped updates some time ago so I'm feeling it's about time to upgrade and any advice you can give would be much appreciated. My current thinking is that I perhaps only need two bays perhaps with 2TB each for basic Raid functionality. I had been thinking the Synology DS220j or the QNAP TS-231P3.
Thanks, Rob

Hello. Your reviews are so helpful and we are so grateful for them. Allow me to express a few questions though... I was a WD user as from very recently, but after so many years WD decided to end support on MyCloudEX4 as they stopped the Cloud OS3 leaving us hanging.... So now I'm thinking to get the Synology DS420+ fror my home cloud. My questions are these: Is there a possibility that Synology will end support as WD did? How long do they keep supporting their products? Can I use any upgrade item such an NVMe drive other than the ones recommended? The same with HDD...
Can we ignore the compatability list that Synology recommends? I saw a video of yours installing an non-Synology recommended product, which worked fine, but can we really do it with any product?
these compatibility issues are such a pain and the only obstacle from allowing me to purchase it. Do you recommend any other Synology NAS diskstation fro heavy home usage?
I appreciate your time.
Sincerely
Nick T.

WD MyCloud Mirror media database not picking up new media files

Hi - not sure if anyone is able to help with this, but I've just started having issues with the media database on my WD MyCloud Mirror, and I'm not sure if it's related to the recent withdrawal of support from WD for these legacy devices.
I've been adding new MP3 and FLAC files to the drive, but they don't appear to be added to the media database I access via BubbleUpnp. It's set to auto re-scan, but I've carried out a couple of manual rescans and I still can't play the files. They're definitely in the folder when I look via the file browser. And I can still play all the mp3/FLACs that I've added previously.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Joel

TS-664 SSD set up raid positioning

Hi Guys Really appreciated your video's and time,
I Have got my self a
QNAP TS-664,
2x Samsung 970 evo 1TB SSD NVMe
3x Seagate iron wolf 6TB NAS HDD's
3x Samsung 250 Gb HDD's (will upgrade these 3 in time)
Current I have the
3x 6TB in raid 5 installed first as raid group 1 (apps installed here)
2x 970 evo's in raid 1 as raid group 2 (as I installed these 2nd)
3x 250GB in raid 5 as raid group 3 (where laying around so thought why not to installed them )
All in one storage pool
would this be the best way to set up this configuration.
or am I better to have two separate storage pools for the 2 raid 5's
My Main question is:
if using the 970 evos as cache is it a good or bad idea to,
install the 970's first in a raid 1 so the Apps install on these
SSD's and then add the x2 raid 5's to the storage pool
and then covert lets say 600Gb NVMe to cache
Many Thanks & Kind Regards
Justin.

I have the TS-453D and originally got it to setup a multimedia system using PLEX through the HDMI out. Yet that option went away. Will the TS-464 have this option or it the best way to stream to a TV through the network/wifi the nas and TV are on?

NAS for photos backup and share

Hi !
I'm looking for a Synology NAS essentially to backup (from mobile phones) and share photos within the family. I currently own a DS220j and find the Synology Photos App really interesting but way too slow to use.
I understand that this is due to the lack of RAM of the DS220j and I'm looking for a better candidate.
I am orientating towards the DS220+ or the DS720+ but can't decide between these two models (the DS920+ could be also an option ?)
regards,

Hello! I have my home and two rental properties that I'm looking to put cameras in. My home will ideally eventually be a third rental. With detached garages on all three, it seems I could get up toward 16 cameras each place.
I currently have a DS220+ and two 12TB Red Pros sitting unopened. Curious if they should stay that way and be returned.
Would three DS220+ (perhaps with RAM upgrade) suffice, and what size drives would you recommend? Or would this be a waste and I should just go with the DS920+? I don't know much about NAS, but it would seem to me the 920+ would be better from the standpoint that is one drive failed, there is at least one other for recording, whereas in the 220+ is one drive doing "the work" and the other is solely backing up the primary and unable to do "the work"?
Sorry for the run-on sentences and poorly written questions.
Also, I have an old 1813+ that is still running. Is there anyway to try to make it viable or is that a waste of time? Perhaps it should be local backup.
Thank you so much for your time!!

Ive been hit by deadbolt, lost around 5tb or data mainly media stuff, all business data backed up elsewhere. Ive removed the storage pools and rebuilt new ones, but still get the deadbolt screen when trying to access the NAS with iots IP address.
Nas has been updated to latest firmware, but malware remover cant find anything.
Whats the best way to remove all traces of deadbolt and the screen its redirecting me to.
Thanks in advance,
Warren.
