QNAP 431P3 vs 431KX |

Hi, first time buyer here, wonder whether to go with QNAP 431P3 or 431KX as they seem to be pretty similarly priced. I will use mainly for storing precious photos and files (around 1-1.5 Tb so far). Also, want to be able to utilize, in the near future at least, the possibility of accessing these pics online (through secure means) and why not stream some music. Am not really clear on what I need but am hoping you can help me. I was told that the simple 431K will do but am concerned that one has only 1GB RAM and can't be upgraded. If I am buying this for the next 5 yrs, I guess I better spend a little more but get something good. Also unclear on whether to get the Celeron processor vs the Alpine. Finally, are the IronWolf a good option for HDDs for the above choices or would you recommend something else?
thank you kindly,
Simon

Using crucial 16gb (CT16G4SFD8266) was working before, out of no where about a month ago, caused nas to become unaccessibile. Removed the ram, and can connect to and access ram. Install ram, And can no longer access or connect to Nas. Using a Synology DS920+ with wd reds

Hello I was a customer a Span.com. It appears lots has changed there.
I have a Synology NAS DS918plus and a Drobo 5C attached to my main work desktop. I choose this configuration to overcome sometimes having larger files and a backup for my computer and emails. Drobo seems to be out of business and the Drobo cause a bit of issues with the Synology NAS. The GAs is the heart of the business and also connected to a Cloud Backup. Internet speed would not allow direct cloud use and internet here is to fragile anyway. What would be a good replacement for the Drobo and should I think of having a second NAS unit as a replacement for the 4,5 year of NAS? It is working but I like to think ahead and be prepared rather just react when anything happens and get the performance of the current system a bit better as well.

Project for Girlfriend |

My girlfriend of about 15 months (not living with me): Works as a video editor, from home, with some clients on the side. Her internet options are limited, especially the upload speeds. Being that she works with 4K videos, and collaborates a lot with editors outside of her internal network, she is constantly waiting for videos to download and upload.
Me: Project Manager, Network Engineer at an NYC MSP, with a Synology DS720+ at home, running Plex. A client office recently closed down, and I inherited a a DS918+.
The Goal: I want to give my current 720+ to my girlfriend to use as a cloud sync device, for quick local transfers and unattended synchronization to her cloud services (DropBox or OneDrive). I also need more storage for my Plex Server, so I would be repurposing the DS918+ for that.
Questions: Is Synology Drive able to do this, or would I need to implement an SMB share (she uses a mac) to take advantage of the Cloud Sync? Do you have any other ideas or stipulations about this?
Love your videos, thank you so much for your contributions to the community!
Sincerely,
Willard

Basic Rackmount NAS - thats affordable and safe |

I am looking for a simple rack mount NAS to serve as a RAID backup of pictures and videos for the family. My biggest complaint with current Synology desktop NAS is the transfer/search speeds.
I am building a new Unifi network and will have 2.5Gb and 10Gb capability.
I'm leaning towaard QNAS TS-435XeU, but all the security concerns with QNAS have me hesitant. Synology, however, will end up being MUCH more expensive to achieve faster transfer speeds...
I do not intend on streaming media at all, my needs are strictly related to file storage and retrieval. I also do not intend to have the NAS observable/accessible outside of my local network.
So, with that...would you all recommend QNAP or one of the Synology (422/822) rackmount NAS solutions
