DS920+ advice?

Hi there. First of all I want to thank you for your guides and articles. I have recently started going down the NAS rabbit hole and this website has been a great source of information!
I‘m planning to set up a NAS system at home for the first time (probably trying to get a good Black Friday deal), and using it mainly as a safe backup/storage/cloud solution with occasional video streaming to my 4K LG tv.
In order to have redundancy for faulty drivers I‘m mainly looking at 4-5 bay drives, the favorite atm being Synology‘s DS920+. Obviously I was also anticipating yesterday’s Synology event to see if picking up the DS923+ or something else might be better.
But as it stands, my current favorite is still the Synology DS920+ with
4 x 6 TB, WD Red Plus drives (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/synology-ds920-4-x-6-tb-wd-red-plus-netzwerkspeicher-13575047)
What would be your advice? What would be a good future proof set up for my needs?
I might add that we recently downgraded to a 1gbit network connection and that the NAS will be in our living room so the drive’s noise levels will be a somewhat important factor as well.
Thanks in advance for your valvued advice! Have a nice day
Mark

THANKS FOR THE 923+ VIDEO (s)..?Been waiting so long on this. Disappointed in processor choice. QUESTIONS: 1. Should I now buy a 920+? 2. If I did buy a 920+, should i populate it w Synology labeled drives only (nervous about future support)?…3. Do you think Synology will stop supporting the 920+ in general inc updates? …4. Should I consider Qnap? ..5. If so which Qnap model? 6. How can I own a Qnap & make it be secure or is it even possible? My NAS would be connected to Internet all the time and accessed offsite by cell phones often. Videos would be utilized a lot. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'll get to my point.
I need a solid recomendation for a home NAS for regular storage use, photos, videos, PC backups and to store and play my Plex library (I have a plex pass), mostly composed of 1080p and some 4k movies at the moment stored in my laptop.
Is the synology ds920+ capable of directly playing well 4k? I don't need much transcoding, I understand it gets stupidly expensive when there's a need to transcode. I want to watch my movies confortably at home, on my 4k TV. If I'll ever need to go out I'm downloading the movies I need for offline playback, I will rarely stream anything.
I've been trying to wrap my head around NAS technical specifications for 2 years now and everything about plex performnce on NASes is super confusing, that's why I had to ask you. The only thing I know is that I'm sold on synology, I preferebly want to spend less than 500€.
If the ds920+ wont cut it I think I'll wait for a more prosumer oriented NAS from synology, because I was super let dow from your last video about the ds923+.
Thank you, keep up to good work, love your channel, super informative.
Cheers.
PS: don't be hard on the seagulls, they're not that noisy

DS 1821+

Hi
We have s a Synology DS 1821+ onn our to floor. Which is connected to our switch. Switch is then connected to our Zyxel APs nva1123acv3. Our ISP provided modem + router also enters our switch.
We have 2 access points: 1 on 1sr floor and one on Ground floor, each of which support 866Mbps on 5 Ghz.
If I connect NAS over ethernet cable directly to my laptop, I get 110 MBPS (NOT Mbps).
If I connect NAS over 1st floor AP, I get. 50 MBPS.
If I connect NAS over ground floor AP, I get 30-35 MBPS.
Is there a way that we can get complete bandwidth over our both APs?
Thanks so much.
Best,
Naman

DS923+ vs rackmount Synology

So if we now know that the new DS923+ comes with the Ryzen and no integrated video processing, would it just be the same as getting one of the Synology four bay rack mount series anyway? Not that I plan on doing a ton of video streaming, but I was kinda hoping the 923+ would be the ultimate solution. It looks like it's more for just data storage from what I could tell from your videos. In that case should I just get the four bay rackmount, and convert that to 10GBE? I was planning on doing that for the 923+ too.
Thanks,
Rob

Hi,
First time NAS.
Want it for my music 24 Bit FLAC files & Blu-ray ISO images for storage & playback.
I will be only sole user on my network.
Like cases of the above and wondered if they would be ok or a bit overkill for my usage (especially the newer TS 464)
Love the youtube channel & will send donation.
Thanks
Paul Routledge.
