Hello guys, I follow your channel for quite a while and it's brilliant!
For a few years I am considering to get myself NAS. I am photographer and the main reason for getting NAS is to backup my photos. Currently I only have 4TB external drive, 4TB internal drive and 10TB internal drive. Apart from photos there are also movies, music and other usual stuff. But the photos are the most important. Also, I currently have Raspberry Pi 2B serving Logitech Media Server, PHP and MySQL server, DNS, etc.
What I am hoping for is to have NAS for backing up my photos, serving media, have docker containers running Logitech Media Server and other. I almost bought Synology DS920+ but then my hopes went for DS923+. But I am kind of disappointed with its specs.
Anyway I prefer Synology and DS923+ still seems best choice.
Not sure which drives to use, I have WD Red now. Capacity 12TB+ each. Two as backup hence 4-bay NAS, not sure which RAID configuration. Btw seagulls in the background are cool ;-) Thx

Hi - Ive been running a 4 bay Asustor AS5304T for the last few years, but ive now reached the storage capacity limit.
Im currently running a Celeron 1.50Ghz / 4Gb RAM / 21Tb HDD (28Tb RAID 5) system.
The main use is as a Plex 4k media streamer, but it's also a file store / backup host.
What are the best value for money HDDs I should go for, looking at Plex / 4k media optimisation if there is that option?
Re capacity, ballpark of double the 21Tb (28Tb RAID5) I have today, but new capacity depending on recommended disc price.
Thanks,
Duncan

| Expanded storage pool failed - degraded raid |

I have a DS1522+. Unfortunately my expansion of the storage pool failed in a RAID 5. I have four 10TB drives and added a fifth and it failed. Now the RAID is degraded. I only used about 55% of my storage.
I can't get a correct replacement unfortunately. Is there a way to undo the expansion and go back to my 4 drives and fix the degraded status? Or will I have to re-do the entire raid array? I have my data all backed up.
For context I had 4 shucked drives. Got a fifth which failed. I tried to get a replacement but that drive is a slightly different 10TB model after I shucked it.
Thank you!

Would like to centralize and simplify my data warehousing. Currently have about 100gb of "cloud storage" over several different providers, about 2tb of audio files (mp3, mp4, audiobooks), 2tb of television programs stored as mp4, 2tb of movies in mp4 mostly 720p and 1080p, some smaller. 3 desktop mac's with about 1tb on each system (one currently hosts all of the audio/video library so not counted here). Our internal network is throttled to 1Gb/s due to internet provider's combined modem/router. I plan to connect a backup drive to whatever NAS selected to provide backup of the NAS. All user devices are Apple (mac, ipad, iphone). I have no preference of NAS brand, but think maybe 4 drives is probably better than 2.

| How to list/review all Snapshot schedules on QTS |

Hi, I've purchased a QNAP 464 based on your excellent reviews etc. and I've setup a range of snapshot schedules but I'm struggling to find where in QTS/within the snapshot manager app I can obtain a listing of all current snapshot schedules so I can review them and ensure they're correct and suitable. Appreciate any clarity or advice you may be able to provide. Thank you greatly.

Hi Guys,
Need your help.
In our family home I have built a pretty sophisticated homenetwork (atm 1GBit/s only) with Proxmox running 10-15 VMs and 2 Docker hosts with 20 Containers and still growing.
I also host my own AD with File-/Printserver, and a DMZ for external-facing APPs is in the works (NextCloud, Bitwarden planned).
19" Rack is in the basement, currently without cooling. In the future a deeper server rack with cooling is planned.
I have an old Qnap TS 419P (4x2TB) sitting on top of that rack, that I currently only boot up for running backups once a week.
Apart from being iSCSI-Target for Proxmox backups, it has our family photos, videos and filedump.
Currently backed up to a WD MyBook that is unfortunately not offsite but residing upstairs ;-).
I'm looking for a NAS that is somewhat future proof (option 10Gbit-SFPs would be nice) and at least Docker capabilities to shift some load off the proxmox.
Also being able to serve as storage to run remote(Prox-)VMs on it.
Thanks!

Hi, Looking at NIMBUSTOR 2, Drivestor2 Pro, DS220+.
Purpose is to backup devices and play photos and videos from camera to NAS to devices. So 4k playback is wanted. Liked the Drivestor2 but worried about customer support and quality of product based on Amazon reviews. Synology seems to be better software and quality but device old. Can't decide on the best nas as I don't want something buggy or support stops and it becomes useless like WD, Seagate NASes. 2 bay with RAID 1 is preferred.
