I recently replaced my 4x4TB HDD by 4x8TB HDDs on my TS-453B RAID5. After thatd, I realized I originally created my system volume as a "4k bytes per inode", which limits max storage to 16TB and, therefore, prevents the RAID from being increased up to the available 21TB (Trully disappointed and angry at myself)
At this point I have the new 4x8TB HDDs limitted to my former capacity (10TB) with no option to revert them back to the 4x4TB.
I would like to hear your advise on what approach to take to leverage my new 4x8TB HDD. At this point, I am considering to buy a new NAS (TS 664) to migrate to. Yet, that would pose to re-create all my services (Plex, 12 x dockers, QVR Pro,...).
Can you suggest any better approach which could minimize all this admin work?
In an ideal world I would like to just migrate the HDDs to the new NAS but that would not solve the volume storage limitation.

I need a replacement for my drobo 8D. Generally I was very satisfied with it, but I need more storage and Drobo no longer makes the impression of a future-proof brand ...
My system has just under 90TB and is almost full. At the moment I'm working with Thunderbold 3 and 1TB SSD cash and I'm very happy with it (except for the cable length). For the future I would like a system that can be expanded well. I like to work with the Seagate Iron Wolf pro hard drives - that's why I'm a bit critical of Synlogy's one brand mentality. With the Drobo I always appreciate the easy management and the use of different sized HDDs. I have looked at Qnap systems - but their website is a bit confusing ...

I would be very happy to receive a recommendation and advice from you.

I'm looking for the QNAP TS 264 but i think that 2 bays will be not enough for a long time keeping.
I checked the QNAP TS 464 but it less powerfull than his little brother.
So if I buy the TS 264 and in the future, add an extension like the TR 002 is this setup working well and more powerful than the TS 464 itself ?
Is there a lost or performance for RAID 1 with an extension ?

I just purchased a $6K DELL Precision Workstation and I was told by Dell that their motherboards are now using the TPM chip to run Windows 11 Pro. Therefore this system cannot access my Local Network of Synology NAS since it insists on requiring me to sign in to Microsoft with my account email and a 6 digit PIN #.

The recent release of 22H2 is what made everything change.

It has something to with Certificates that come from the MS Azure Active Directory. I've spent a week trying to get his resolved with Dell only to have them take the system back and send me a Win 10 version.

Anyway I wan wondering what you know about this, and whether Synology is going to offer help. I can still access the drives though a browser, but its stated as NOT being secure.

1) I have DS1515+/Apple Studio and thinking about Link Aggregation to improve data transfer, so many switches out there any recommendations? and the BEST MODE to go for??

2) DS1515+ has 4 x LAN ports - At present one is connected to my modem, Can I connect another DIRECTLY to the ethernet port of the apple studio at the same time as aggregation etc etc

3) Is there any/better alternatives out there ...

The issue I am having is how to map a folder we created to be accessed by the user at their own computer without having to login to the NAS application.

We used to have windows server 2012 that died on us, and we had a folder that was mapped on the desktop so we could access the files and upload new ones.

When I tried to setup the mapping as you shown on your video I am not able to find the map part

Can you please help?

Hey! Love your channel, you guys do a great job and clearly know your stuff so I thought I'd ask the experts!

I have a new Drone company, we work for clients on a monthly basis and have to store their footage (usually 20GB/month/client). At the moment we use onedrive to store the footage and our business files, though we are only 6 month old company. I was looking for a NAS solution for better value for long term archive storage and we will also use it as a shared drive hub for the employees to all access and save daily files into. The drone footage can be 4K video, which I presume would need to be able to be streamed from the NAS if a client was accessing it. It would be good to have password protected folders in the NAS which different clients can access at will from our website too?

As we get more clients we can upgrade the NAS but at the moment we only have 2, so 4-8TB would be sufficient for a decent amount of time and the price seems to hike up in the 4 bay, 4K, 8TB+ NASs.
