I'm considering a NAS as my Plex Server. After watching many of the videos it sounds like the QNAP TS-464 is the best one to get for many reasons. Would you concur with that assessment or would you recommend another and why?

Moving from Drobo 5D to ????? |

I have a Drobo 5D that has served me well for several years, but I can’t take the chance of it failing and not be able to recover the data on it. I just want a sanity check on my migration strategy to ensure I’m not missing anything.
My current Drobo 5D is connected to my 2020 M1 Mac Mini via Thunderbold. It has 5 HDDs – 2 x 6 TBs, 2 x 4 TBs, 1 x 2 TBs. These drives provide 14.47 TB of capacity, of which I’m using 10.72 TB (74%) with 3.74 TB free space. I have two volumes – one is used as my Mac Mini Drive, has most of my documents, photos, music and videos. It uses 6.17 TBs of space. The other volume is my Mac Backup, which uses 4.55 TB of space. My drives are a mix WD, Seagate, and Western Digital.
I’m thinking of moving to the Synology 5 drive DS1522+ with 8 GB RAM. I'd buy a new HDD for the Synology and pull one of the 6 TB drives from my Drobo to get started, then probably pull use the other 6 TB drive and one of the 4 TB HDDs until I need to expand.

I currently own a DS220j with 2 x 8tb seagate IronWolf HDD's.
I use it primarly to store my lightroom database(The catalog is on my apple ssd and i make previews) Mainly for The photo's that are already finished. So if i finish a project en post is done, i copy everything to my NAS. I do need these photo's sometimes and make adjustmentd. but whem i do so...it is sooo slow. So i wanted to upgrade and i was thinking of ds220+ first but studied your website and besides that it is quite old, i was then moved to The ds720+ and The ds723+. I do think it is a lot of money, but if it is a big improvement..... in speed.... than it could be oke. I think The ds923+ is a bit too much

My wife and I have 2 small business and are looking for a general storage solution where we can store our data.
Both companies standard documents and media.
Additionally, we could like to host our own media library (using Plex or Jellyfin).
What can you recommend for our use case? (NAS, drives, RAID)

Hello,
I have recently updated my NAS drives and replaced two 10TB drives with two 20TB drives. I would like to use those two 10TB drives as backup storage drives (external hard drives). I bought a couple of different tools, an enclosure and a plug-in wire set up, but neither let my laptop recognize the drives. Is there a specific enclosure or cable that will work, or do I need to go with a NAS unit? The drives are Seagate Ironwolf 10TB.
Thanks,
Derek

Hello. I am looking at getting a Synology NAS to replace my current WD cloud. I don't know whether to get a fully loaded 2 bay or, for now, a 4 bay with just 2 drives full. It is either the DS720 8TB or DS920 with only to bays full. It will be mainly used for plex, home document storage and MS office work.
Any advice or direction would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron

Segregating Audio Books from Music on a QNAP Media Server |

I have large collections of Music and Spoken Word / Audio Books. Nearly all are in MP3 format.
I want to set up Media Server(s) on My recently aquired QNAP TS451A / 4GB / 4x4TB.
I can't work out how to keep the Music and Spoken Word stuff separate so they don't all show up in the same view.
Can I install more than Medi Server?
How would you do it?
I have found your videos on You Tube invaluable!
Diolch yn fawr (Thanks very much)

I need two computers to share everything |

I'm upgrading my internet radio station computers. I bought 2 Window 11 computers, 1 for the main & 1 for backup. But, they don't talk to each other. I need someone working on 1 to see what someone working on 2 has done. I also need it so that if computer 1 stops, then computer 2 can continue putting the music on air. The computers are currently attached to the internet route via ethernet cables (they don't have WIFI). There are no more ethernet ports on the computers, so can't use an ethernet cross over cable. All of the ports on my router are in use (one to a splitter that I have both computers plugged into.) How can I get these 2 computers working together? I’ll need a printer added eventually, too. I'm not tech savvy so will need very simple instructions on how to make these work together, or happy to pay someone to come do it for me. Thanks.

DS218 memory upgrade |

Dear Friend,
I sometimes have trouble with the buffering of videos to my TV from my NAS, so i do wonder if upgrading the NAS memory is any solution?
It only happens when i "stream" large 4K movies from PLEX, if i stream straight from my NAS to my TV the issue is non-existing.
A RAM recommendation is always welcome if that could solve the issue.
Kind regard!
Joachim
