Lots of storage and some power as well - Enquiries - 02-27-2023 Hi I need a second NAS for my business which I run from home. I need to be able to store photos, videos and I need to work off the NAS directly = 10Gbps. I also would like to run a few VM’s. I own a DS918+ w/DX517 with 4x WD Red Pro & 5x Seagate Ironwolf (non-pro) 8TB drives (SHR) already, and I like the Synology eco-system, but I'm open to moving platform, if it can communicate/sync with my DS918. I like the idea of an 8-bay NAS, as it allows for plenty of drives and expansion if needed. Noise may be an issue though. I want to use 3x EXOS X20 20TB drives to begin with as they are cheap, but not being supported by Syno scares me. Should it? I've looked at the 1823xs+, as it supports storage on M.2 slots, but no SHR and lacking drive compatibility also scares me. And is the 1821+ a bad buy (considering age), and is there a new version coming out (eg. 1823+, non-xs) soon? Help! Kind regards Thomas RE: Lots of storage and some power as well - ed - 03-03-2023 No, there is no sign of new 1823+ (only new DS1823xs+). Bu it is about time to roll an upgrade out. I bet they do this year. Either way, the performance would not be very different. But new 23 series does allow NVMe volumes which is handy. But this can also be achieved on DS1821+ https://nascompares.com/answer/how-to-enable-nvme-storage-pool-on-synology-that-only-allow-caching/ I hope this helps. |
