  RT6600ac mesh with a WRX560
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-24-2023, 02:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have an RT6600ac with 3 MR2200 meshed. Would it be advantageous to replace at least one of the 2200’s with a WRX560? Any advantage or disadvantage other than cost. All 2200’s are currently wireless connected and no backhaul, letting 6600 manage 5mghz-1 and -2 and 2.4.

Thanks for all your great helpful videos!

  Upgrading QNAP NAS
Posted by: Shinta - 06-23-2023, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (3)

I currently have a TS-431P with a TL-D800C expansion unit.  I am looking to move my TS-431P into a standalone unit and replace it with another QNAP NAS.  Ideally I would like a new QNAP NAS that can work with my TL-D800C but also supports SATA expansion units for later expansions.  I would settle for a 4 bay unit but would prefer a 6 or even 8 bay NAS.

When doing a recent live migration I noted that it appeared that the bottle neck was my CPU as the resource manager showed it at near 100%.  I understanding doing a live migration on a RAID6 means it had to recalculate parity.  I always encrypt my volumes if that impacts the choice.

As for my use case, it is fairly straight forward.  A single user (me) uses it to hold a number of RAW images and large video files.  For my RAW images I use software that catalogues these on my PC and as a result, have previews of these images stored in a cache located on a drive local to my PC.  I do not believe that having an SSD cache on the NAS would be of any use.

I do not use anything like PLEX or the media server components.  Whilst my current network only supports Gigabit speeds, I would like to to upgrade it in the near future to either 2.5 Gbit or 10 Gbit.

Best Shuckable CMR External 2.5 inch drive
Posted by: koolestani - 06-23-2023, 10:56 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

As the title says, I'm looking for a shuckable 2.5 inch drive. I'm not exactly spoilt for choice here, because my regional market only has some offerings from Seagate and WD, that's it.
So my requirements are

  • CMR
  • 2.5 inch form factor
  • Shuckable

With these requirements met, I'd like to go for the highest storage capacity option available.
I'm eyeing for this WDBHDW0050BBK-EESN (WD Elements 5 TB External HDD), but can't find out if it's SMR or CMR.

Also does anyone know if B01LQQH86A (WD 4 TB My Passport External HDD) is SMR or CMR? I couldn't find it in this giant list of CMR and SMR drives (nascompares.com/answer/list-of-wd-cmr-and-smr-hard-drives-hdd/).

  Disney+ on qnap nas ts351
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-22-2023, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
I would like to somehow merge and handle my existing streaming services into one unit, on the nas. (disney+; netflix, spotify)

Is there any addon that makes disney+ available on the qnap?
Is there any kodi addon that really makes the title visible as in case of the original environment?

Can you direct me somewhere, where exists a detailed howto description?

Hope, you can help me.
Have a good day, b.r.:
András Fodor

  First NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-22-2023, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, I'm looking at purchasing my first NAS for home backup of documents, photos, and iphone media. I would also be using it for a Plex medial server, or similar platform to stream movies both locally and remotely. Transcoding for iphone might be necessary, but not a priority.

I'm currently looking at the Synology 423+, QNAP TS-464, and the TS-453E. Do you have any recommendations between these? I know the 423+ only comes with 1Gbe ports, which I view as a bit of a downside for the future. I'm also trying to figure out which applications are included with a purchase of the NAS, and which require an additional subscription. Do you happen to have a list?

I am also debating between starting with 1 larger drive, or 2 smaller drives in a RAID 1 to give some level of protection. Thoughts here would also be appreciated. I would look to fully populate the NAS over time.

Thanks in advance

  Asustor sync
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-22-2023, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Thank you for your very helpful series of videos on setting up an Asustor NAS.
I'm having a small problem syncing files with EZ Sync.
I have set up EZ Sync so that it syncs all my work doc files from specific folders on my PC to my NAS. I set it up as a one-way PC to NAS sync, following your YouTube instructions. It has worked, in that any new files added to these folders on the PC reflect on the NAS when both are on the same network (exactly what I want).
But I notice that when I change a file on the PC and save the file, these changes are not reflected in the file synced on the NAS. (ie. The file that was first copied to the NAS is not altered when the original is altered and saved on the PC).
My questions:
1. Is there a way to ensure that the changes to a document or other file are updated on the NAS whenever they are saved on the PC?
2. Is there a way to do the above while also ensuring that when a file is deleted in the PC it is NOT automatically deleted on the NAS?

  Synology M2 NVme Heat Sink
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-21-2023, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello and I hate seagulls too!
I recently added two 800G Synology M2NVme sticks (SNV3410) to my DS923+.
You mentioned in a previous video that Synology should have catered for heat sinks for their NVmes.
Can I purchase heat sinks? If so, which heat sink would you recommend I purchase to fit the Synology NVme sticks and how should I install them?
You may actually consider turning this response into a short video because I am sure that a lot of people out there are scratching their head over this same question.
Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!
Kind regards,
Guillaume
