Which one suits me? DS423+ or DS923+?
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-21-2023, 04:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi. I'm a photographer. I'm looking to get a NAS for my photo archives. Mainly I'll be storing JPEG or RAW files inside. Will the embedded graphic chip affect photo viewing speed? Most reviews I've seen online are about videos, but what about photo encoding? I need to browse the photo quickly and not wait for them to decode one by one. Thanks.

  V-Color ECC so-dimm ddr4 32GB Memory
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-21-2023, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I couldn't find too much but was wondering if you had any thoughts about V-Color's ECC SO-DIMM DDR 4 Memory. I paid $135 for 32GB (16x2) on Prime Day. Not sure if it's a scam or real. Just received them (they have 9 chips on either side of a single card) and am planning to put them in my Synology 1522+.
Would this be something you would be willing to review on your YouTube channel or any thoughts about V-Color's products?
Thanks,
Rob Smile

  NAS Time Machine folder unavailable
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-20-2023, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a new DS423+ with 2 8tb drives in SHR. I set up a Time Machine folder for my M1 Mac Air according to instructions on NAScompares. When I go to TM settings in MacOS I see the shared folder and I see that backups are current, everything appears to be running OK. But when I try to browse that folder so I can verify the backups actually work I don't see the NAS folder, only the original TM folder on a USB drive. I've asked about this at Apple community, at the Synology chat room and on the SynoCommunity discord but I get no answers. This is probably outside the scope of your free help but I have run out of people to ask and thought maybe you could point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can give me!

  QNAP QXG-25G2SF-CX6

Is the QNAP QXG-25G2SF-CX6 compatible with the TVS-H874X I9 NAS enclosure? If not what optical SFP+ 10 GBE network card would you recommend for this NAS?

  Best BYO NAS (with TruNAS)
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-20-2023, 01:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

In your opinion, would this be a good BYO (may be more outside the US)? You can get a (1) refurb HP Z240 CMT Workstation with 4-core Intel Xeon E3-1245V5, 64 GB DDR4 PC4 ECC memory, all drive cables and trays for $277 [PC Server and Parts]; (2) WD 10TB Red Plus drive (5) for $1000 [Microcenter]; Samsung 1TB EVO 970 Plus SSD for $50 for OS and containers; Intel 10 GB Nic [Amazon B001CY0P7G]; 3bay drive tray [Amazon B00HS23QZO] for $80.
The 50 TB would go to a TruNAS Scale ZFS pool. Do you think about 24x7 power consumption would be too much given all else?
Thank you. Love the podcast!

  Synology 220+ max capacity
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-20-2023, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I'm at 80% usage on my 220+ Nas. I saw some reference that the 18TB Drive is compatible, but has it been tested? I appreciate this thank you!

A new NAS inc camera support
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-19-2023, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Replacing my old synology 1010+ with a new NAS. Leaning towards the 923+ rather than 423+. Would that be overkill for home user? Mainly music and photos at the mo but wanting to add Hikvision cameras at some point soon. Is that possible with Synology? Thanks so much - learning lots from your channel. Adrian

Looking for upgrade from cloud storage. I will have 2 users and no streaming, just backup and cloud storage alternative.
Would a DS223J be enough?

Synology proprietary RAM D4ES03-4G arrival? Is it real?
Posted by: Yuma - 07-19-2023, 06:13 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (4)

Hi,

I'm new here and if I am doing anything wrong I will apologize in advance.

I've been looking for proprietary RAM for my Synology DS923+ in the 2nd hand market (in Japan) and I found something that looked to be good but I wasn't sure.

The D4ES03-4G
(in attachment photo because I couldn't post a link)

The seller claims that he/she got this out of the DS923+ that he/she bought.
This must be the successor to D4ES02-4G but I can't seem to see any info on Synology or google.

I was wondering does everyone think this is real? Should I go for it and mix and mach it with my DS923+ that has a D4ES02-4G installed?

Hoping to here anyone's  thoughts.

Thank you,

Compatibility of TS-1655-8G with Crucial and Samsung
Posted by: zmarakbangash@gmail.com - 07-19-2023, 02:15 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am currently in the process of purchasing a QNAP TS-1655. As I am looking to add NVMe SSD, SSDs, HDD and do a RAM upgrade as well, I am looking to be a bit more economical. The compatibility checker on QNAP's website only shows Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba as their tested manufacturers. I am wondering if anyone has had experience installing cruicial or samsung products in the QNAP NAS as a general and more specifically if possible, the TS-1655.

Thanks a lot.
