  DS423+
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello!
Greetings from Switzerland.
Quick question...
Will Seagate Exos 20 work in the DS423+ ?
I tried them on the DS923+ and work fine.
Did you test the DS423+ with 20TB HDD?
Thanks,
Ricardo

  Capacity Upgrade
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a second question for you. beeststion

I purchased and applied a sysnology HAT3310-16T harddisk, but the upgrade failed because the capacity was not recognized.
Did I perhaps not do something else?

I successfully entered the settings screen using the sysnology assistant. All screens were normal and I even logged in, but an error message was displayed saying that only the capacity part was not recognized.

  Energy efficient surveillance software?
Posted by: Sumosys - 03-05-2024, 06:52 PM - Forum: Surveillance - Replies (3)

Good Evening,

I have recently built my little NAS, running on UnRAID, which set up easily,3 drives plus a parity drive, all the same size, cos it seemed easier. I have three CCTV cameras (ANNKE) which used to run on SecuritySpy, a MacOS specific bit of software. I have tried AgentDVR, but the CPU usage on that is horrendous. I have recently inquired with BenSoftware, who do SecuritySpy if there is a version that will run on UnRAID, and am currently awaiting their response.
Assuming the expected answer (No) it leads on to two questions. Firstly, is there a better option than AgentDVR to run as an alternative, (I've looked at Blue Iris, but I think that runs in a Windows VM?, which is not an option for me, haven't used microsoft for about 16yrs!). And secondly, is impossible to run a MacOS VM on UnRAID? I think I saw an article by yourself about it a while ago. But that would involve formatting a drive? and they're already formatted and working in a RAID Array?

Of course I could just keep running SecuritySpy on an iMac and just use the NAS as a receptacle for the recorded footage.

Thoughts and options, and please remember I'm still very much a novice at this! Although I have got JellyFin working pretty well  Cool

Best Regards

Paul

  TL D-800C transfer speeds
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I record whale calls in the ocean using underwater recorders called hydrophones. Each one creates 1464 Gb of compressed audio files/year. These decompress using a host software from the hydrophone into 5.94 Tb of .wav files. I have three of these hydrophones, meaning I produce 5.94 Tb * 3 hydrophones = 17.82 Tb of .wav files/year. I need to store these but I also need to read them, run analysis on them, and have a proper backup. Right now I have 2 Ironwolf 3.5' drives, 20 Tb each, in the QNAP, and they are configured in RAID 1 using the windows storage manager on my laptop. I am able to decompress the compressed files at a rate of ~ 10 Mbs, and download the decompressed .wav files onto the QNAP at a rate of ~ 40 Mbs. The compressed files read off of Samsung EVO micro-SD cards which are plugged directly into a slot in my laptop, the laptop is connected to the QNAP with a 6-foot long USB-C 2.o cable rated for 10 Gbs. How can I speed up file transfer onto the QNAP? Thank You!

  NAS for RV
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Looking to RIP the many DVD and some Blu Rays to a Media server that I can take in the RV when vacationing. I have a Cellular internet connection but would like to stay away from using it if possible. 1080p would be more the sufficient. I will be hard wire ethernet to both television to the network switch with the router all 1GBe. I need something that isn't too big to carry and transport in my RV. 120vac power will be available at all times.

  Decision between DS224+ and DS723+
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-05-2024, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I found your videos on youtube when searching for information about the new Synologies and the alternatives between their models.
I'm thinking about purchasing the DS224+ but I think the DS723+ has beeter performance, right?

PEr other hand, if I understood it correctly, the DS224+ is better for streaming, if used as Plex server or similar, as it has integrated graphics. Would it be much different if I configure Plex on the DS723+?

If not, which model yould you recommend for a home use (Phone mobile backups, private documentation backups, medai server, local database)

Thank you in advance!

Cheers,
Franco

  Ram upgrade DS920+
Posted by: mtguido - 03-04-2024, 04:01 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Good morning,
I would like to increase the ram of my Nas DS920+.
First I would like to ask you:

1) what is the recommended solution?

I was oriented in buying an 8gb bank but I refer to your advice.

In case you also agree with this choice, I would ask you which model of module to buy. I looked at this guide: ht*ps://nascompares.com/synology-ds920-nas-20gb-memory-unoffical-upgrade-guide/
Unfortunately, however, choosing crucial 8gb, the link leads on amazon to a search for 16gb.

2) Would you then point me to the exact tested model of 8gb crucial ram module?

THANK YOU

  SHR verses Raid 5
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-04-2024, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

In a DS1522+ with 5 Exos X24 24TB's is there any point using SHR or is it just best to use Raid 5 if there is no real prospect of any upgrading etc?

  Should use new, different NAS?
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-03-2024, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Have been using McCloud PR2100 for years with Plex. Now, with new Dell laptop and Windows 11, I am struggling to overcome Permissions issues with my Public folder of the NAS. Some files/folders are still accessible Read/Write. Others "You do not have permission, this container does not ..........". Talked to Microsoft tech, then to WD tech. This tech was able to make it work for half a day by making it Private, then Public again and by changing the IP address to 192.168.1.241.
Do I need to go to a different brand such as recommended by you, also with expanded storage, also Plex capability?
