  Photo/video +client proofing
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-16-2024, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi ,
Thank you for the amazing videos.
I am trying to find out about client proofing galleries .
I already use
Google drive mostly for sharing
And
pixieset or
shootproof
For proofing. I can’t see much about proofing though for NAS systems where online where a client can make a favorite selection with stars or hearts.
Thanks in advance
Gavin

  Power for N305 Board
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-15-2024, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I was excited to see your review of the N305 board today, as I've been looking into them myself this week. Everything looks good, except I am completely confused by the PSU situation. I would be putting this into a Node 304 case, with probably 4 HDDs and 2SSDs. Am I going to need two different power supplies to run all of that?? The DC input and......something else? An ATX PSU and some cables that don't seem to even exist yet? Help please! :-)

  NAS backup
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-15-2024, 12:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am a professional photographer and I am looking for a NAS to back up my photos and documents.

I'm just not sure about which would be best for me.

I have had suggestions by a few other photographers including QNAP and Synology, but I am just wondering about other brands such as WD or even Buffalo.

Using M.2 SSD In QNAP NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-14-2024, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

I'm new to all of this NAS stuff. Building a new Plex/Photo/Video Editing NAS. Might expand to virtual computers and video security in the future. Currently just bought and setting up for the first time:

QNAP TVS-h874T
i9/64GB
2x Seagate Ironwolf Pro 24TB

I trying to figure out a few things:

What M.2 cache should I setup? (I just found out about this!)
What M.2 SSD size should I choose?
RAID type for these M.2? (I think I'm gonna choose RAID 1 for main HDD because I only have two HDD at this time.)

I was thinking 2x 4TB Samsung 990 Pro as I love them and have Samsung's in other computers of mine. But maybe this is really, trully overkill? Maybe not as in the future I plan to populate all 8 bays with 24TB HDD?

I know it all sounds expensive but I've been saving for like 10 years for this NAS. I want to do it correct and with overkill so I can just add to it and not necessarily have to replace parts.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Adding 4GB RAM to DS224+ (Synology vs others)
Posted by: cdpage - 03-14-2024, 03:02 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Just wondering if there is any reason one should get Synology RAM vs Crucial or Timetec...etc

I can't think there is a compatibility issues, but they're doing that with the HDDs.
Warranty?
Reliability?

Any advice is welcome.

I have yet to pick up the DS224+ but thought i should get that at the same time.
I understand it is needed for the Image recognition capabilities, which i am hoping will help with sorting the many YEARS of photos we have.

thanks

  Home NAS

New to NAS. Objective is to automatically backup files, be it created new or edited, organised in folders, accessible at home or outside or overseas. Another objective is to be able to create a separate secure folder for family and friends to access, for example, photos, videos, etc. Next objective is to unable a separate secure folder for all home devices to automatically backup and accessible. Please advise. Thank you.

  NAS upgrade
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-13-2024, 11:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

A bit late to the party, but I discovered this week via your videos that Drobo is now dead and gone. I was waiting for my Storaxa to arrive, but now that it looks like that won't happen I need another option. I currently have a Drobo 5N and a Drobo 5N2 that I'd like to move away from and consolidate the drives into a single unit. This will require a mix of drives (3x18TB and 2x12TB in on drobo, 2x10TB and 3x8TB in the other). I realize this points to Synology, but I'm a little underwhelmed by their hardware offering for the price. I'm considering DIY but am wondering if FreeNAS or UNRAID can handle this sort of drive mix. I recall reading years ago that UNRAID can, but I haven't been able to find it explicitly stated in my week's research. All that said, I'm looking at a 10-12 bay NAS, probably with 2.5 Gbps connectivity (currently only using 1 Gbps and I'm not set up to leverage 10 Gbps just yet).

file server accessible from windows, linux and android devices
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-13-2024, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am looking at a setup that can deliver files at up to 10Gb per sec (10gbe connection).
that will give a good balance of performance and resilience.
- 2oTB storage
- throughput to fully utilize multi-gigabit ethernet connections
looking at the QNAP TS 262 4G with a quad m.2 PCIe extension card (fully populated).

Thanks ....

Replace old NAS and PC with Plex Media Server NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-13-2024, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Guys,

Loving the work you do.

I have an antique (only way to describe it) Buffalo NAS TeraStation, with 2TB of Storage (RAID1). Ideally would like to replace it with a QNAP TS-453e-8G with approx 8TB Storage (RAID6), to run a Plex Media Server and Docker Images (about 5 of them). My questions are:

Do you think there will be an updated model this year?
Is the TerraMaster f4-424 pro a better choice for future proofing, keeping in mind I only have maximum 1080 content and will do for the foreseeable.

Cheers,

Jon
