  Encryption questions
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-09-2024, 07:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I've been going down the rabbit hole of how I might create my own local password manager because I don't want to trust some weird company with my data while also being able to create backups and what not for data safety purposes. The one thing I can't find very easily is what the minimum recommended system resources for aes-256 bit encryption. Because since all it will be is a local "password manager" I don't need more than a 2-bay. But ram usage for encryption and such is something I am looking to just get the minimum necessary for a decent experience since it will only be for text files but also get it as cheap as I can for that decent experience.

  DS1621+
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-09-2024, 07:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I run a 1621+ with 4x10TB and 2x12TB drives, but I'm running out of space. I watched a video on your channel about a 500TB drive. I couldn't find it again, and I'm beginning to think I imagined it. I don't want to have to buy a Synology expansion module, as I don't have the room, so what's the biggest drive my 1620 can take? Thanks again

  First Nas
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-08-2024, 10:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

I'm trying to centralize my files from various external drives, flash drives, and other storage locations. Currently we use about 200-250 gb of data total across all drives and Google, mainly personal photos and video over the last 15+ years. I would like to find a solution that allows me to access files from PC and android remotely in a similar feel to Google's products, but would ultimately like to get away from having to rely on Google for most of it. The more I learn about NAS, the more I change my mind about what I need. I have 3 1tb HDDs laying around to begin and can upgrade as needed. I also plan to get a medium-large external (12tb+) for backup. I thought NAS was the best way to go, but not sure if RAID or simple backups would be my best solution. I have been looking into Synology for ease of use, QNAP for hardware expandability, and TerraMaster for price.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  Is this DS923+ set-up possible?
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-08-2024, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I love your content and am planning on buying my first NAS. I could use some help as I need someone to verify if the setup I have in mind is even possible.

Going to buy the DS923+ and am planning to run 3x12TB in a SHR. Planning on using 2 m.2 nvme as cache. And was wondering if it was wise to use the 4th bay for a dedicated SSD drive to run stuff like Plex on. Is this a smart thing to do? It seems like the right move, as I wouldn't sacrifice cache memory, and would still be able to run some stuff on an SSD.

Do you see any drawbacks on this setup? Would love your opinion!

  moving drives
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-07-2024, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi I am looking for some advice. My previous QNAP TS-453BT3 decided to die, mid-flight catastrophic failure with two 12TB ironwolf seagate drives in it.  I have purchased a replacement QNAP TS464, and I want to put the drives back into the new machine.I have updated the firmware on the QNAPTS464, however I can't get past the stage where I have to initiate the drives. ( If I do that I lose all my data, on my 12TB's drives NOT AN OPTION) Questions What is the best option to get around this problem? My current thoughts are: 1/ Can I initiate the TS464 machine without the drives in? is that even possible? 2/ Do I get another additional drive, initiate the TS464 with that drive, which will format the drive, and then initiate the box. Once the TS363 is initiated 1/ I insert the 12TB drives back in.2/ Will the device recognise the drives and then how do I copy the data across? Lots of questions I know, a little bit of guidance, would be of great help.

NAS for video editing and sync
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-06-2024, 11:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi!

I'm looking for a NAS that I'll hook up in an office for a documentary we'll be working on. The team and I mostly work from home but I'll need to pop in the office periodically for in person sessions

I'm hoping to use Resilio Sync to keep the project folders in sync while we work, and I want to use a NAS that'll be on 24/7 in the office, both as an additional node for speed while syncing and as a place to edit from directly while working in the office.

I initially thought about using the Flashtor 6 for this purpose but I'm not really sure if this is either too much or too little for our purpose.

Do you have any specific recommendations for a trustworthy NAS I could use?

  Ps5 ssd question
Posted by: Enquiries - 08-06-2024, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi guys any thoughts on the Avoluxion PSX-i1 for ps5? Not sure if write speeds changed much with it. Or if it's a good alternative for bigger heatsink? the options for case plates are the same except for dark Fusion Concepts plates I think I can put a acidalie heatsink 4 tube but not sure. Will be going to Phoenix Arizona for work, where temperatures can reach 120 Fahrenheit 48.8 Celsius with the WD850x (runs hot) ssd and I came across your channel on ssd and temp (awesome videos and subscribed)
