I work for Security Engineers Inc. in Birmingham, AL. I saw your video about Rack Mount Servers. I was wondering if I could get some general information about how to pick a server for camera systems.

I am still using a Drobo Gen 2 4 bay with USB 2.0. Stoped using Fw as it kept disconnecting.

So far everything is stable on Catalina, but I want to upgrade.

What do you recommend I look at?

I’ve been following your videos as i am in the market for a NAS, having gone through a few videos
I am still confused as to what i would need and would be grateful for some guidance on the best solution. I have been looking at the Synology DS1621+ with 3 x 6TB Storage. Below are the use cases for how i would like to use the NAS:

Photos / Videos
- Archive Photos from ‘Photos’ App for both of us
- Store and Manage Lightroom Library through NAS
- Move photos from Old laptops and Old Mac Mini to NAS
- Be able to manage and access Lightroom catalogues to send off edits
- Be able to display selected photos via a digital photo frame

Work
- Spin up Virtual Machines
- Move files from Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive to NAS
- Time Machine Backup for Laptops, iPhones, iPads

- Store and Watch Movies

I have been recently looking into entering the NAS market but a little confused as to what I need. I have NVIDIA Shield and would like to know what NAS drive I need to store my movies to play over network using PLEX. I will also be storing my photos on there too.

I have a 4k TV and a 1080P projector and unlikely to be using both for streaming at the same time.

I have at present an external HDD caddy that works really well at the moment but will only be on when i access the NVIDIA shield it is attached to and is not good practice to leave on constantly.

I have looked at the following so far.
Synology 220+
Synology 224+

Transitioning from my two bus-powered 2 TB and 4 TB WD drives, unfortunately, with my new LG C2 4K etc, I needed more and was happily given a Synolygy Nas 220+ with already one bay already filled with an IW 4 TB drive. I was quite convinced about your 'EXOS vs IW vs WD' to go for the (€100 cheaper!) EXOS over the IW Pro 16 TB. Is it a good idea, though, to put two 'different' drives together, even concerning storage?)
Goal 1: storage of my now ~5TB of video + ~1TB of TimeMachine backup. (Hence, redundancy is not high on my list, since I won't delete the old drives.) Also, I rent 1 room inclusive so power consumption doesn't matter, and the diff in sound between them seems low enough.
Goal 2: connection the NAS (along with all its video content, of course) to my LG Evo C2 (48" 2160p 120 Hz, (but no gamer!)). Been transcoding some with HandBrake and AV1 works on it with pretty low presets.

I DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ANY STREAMING SERVICE.

Hi, I saw your video on the 5GB adapter for Synology I'm wondering, do you have descriptions how to do this on a Mac?. And is it possible to use the ethernet port which I'm using now for Internet and the 5 GB adapter only for LAN.

How much problem is the 2GB RAM only limitation of the RS422+?

Can I still use it for flash-based file serving, some light video surveillance (2-4 cams), backup to the cloud and maybe a Docker container or two. No Windows VM or stuff like that.

Can you please let me know how can I copy Photos from QNAP to Google Photos?
I already copied the Photos to Google "Drive”, but cannot access them from google photos, and using the upload from google drive function in Google photos will not be practical since I have thousands of photos in many folders.
