NAS or PC for Plex |

Hi, so sorry to bother you. I am currently using an iMac with an external hd (8tb) as my plex media server. I have about 1500 dvds I would like to add to this server. I am unable to decide whether a NAS with a few large hd drives would be better than a pc as a plex media server. We don’t need to stream outside of our home, but it would be great to be able to stream via our home network across all rooms. I am an avid viewer of your YouTube channel and fairly technically minded, but would value your advice on which way to go.
Many thanks. Stuart

I currently use 2 x 500gb Nvme m.2 gen 3.4 for caching on my Terramaster F4-423 but I am looking o add them to my Triad storage pool instead. When I enquired through on line chat with Terramaster they replied when I asked about how much storage would they add to my pool they said 500gb. Which I get completely however I thought that when used as storage their capacity is multiplied.
Can you please advise.

Plex crashes frequently on QNAP TS-464. Have to go login stop and restart Plex and everything is back to normal. Being new to QNAP and NAS’s I am looking for a step-by-step way to schedule automatic stop and restarts of my Plex QNAP app. I figure that has to be a task scheduler on the NAS, or a service that will restart apps if the fail. Need help at a 5 year level. Thanks

My Ds1512+ is almost full, 5x3TB WD Reds using SHR. Time to update.
Looked into expanding my DS1512+ but the cost is not really worth the reward.
My NAS consist of movies, mp3, photos and private personal data storage.
I want to have the capability to add 20-25 high quality outside 4K cameras.
Currently using Swann analog system of 4 cameras, which I think is junk.
I live on an acre of property with 2 detached large garages. House and 1 garage is currently wired with CAT 5E.
The other garage , 125ft away from house, will be getting Cat6a underground wired, soon. Is there a better choice?
Want to use 2.5GBe or 10GBe network. Only have a few devices capable of 2.5GBe, but I want to update for future expansion and capabilities.
I've been reading up on the DS923+, Ds1521+, DS1621+, DS1821+
Was thinking that creating 3 pools of data, movies and cameras , not sure if that is smart though.
Want to user SHR1.
How many disk will I need and what size should I get?
Only 1 user.
TIA

Hello,
My question is if this drive will work with my old Synology 420+.
16TB IronWolf Pro st16000ntz01
The site says ST16000NE000 is compatible, but fails to mention st16000ntz01.
Love your YouTube channel.
Thank you

Hi,
I have brought a QNAP TVS 882 with 6 x 8tb drives. I want one of the drives to mirror my Dahau NVR 8tb drive as a back up. Is this possible?
The rest i will be using for storage and photos and video. Possible map a drive to my PC. Maybe back up my phones tablets and computers there. Also have family store documents and photos there with there own login. Am I best to make these 5 drive one big one in Raid 5.
Also can I map the same folder to my PC and laptop. And if so could the laptop access it while away.
Also if I do all that can I at a later date on add m2 ssd for caching and m2 sata ssds for quicker storage on that same raid 5? With losing the data saved there?
Thanks ive been watching you video very helpful planning to try set it all up soon.

UPS for Terramaster |

Good evening, I bought my first NAS one month ago, a Terramaster 4-423. So far, I love using it, even though I encountered a few annoying things. I'm currently looking for a cheap UPS that will protect the NAS in case of power failure. The NAS will be the only thing plugged into it, and I'm looking for a device that will trigger an automatic shutdown for the NAS.
Thank you very much!!

I want to get the most out of this. What all do I need? Memory, NVMe or not? What alternative OS for using as a storage for backup, & a central place to use & store things on. Is there any advantage to having 2 NVMe drives?

i have a Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen 2 AS6704T & i was just wondering which one of these to buy for casheing
Seagate FireCuda 530, 500GB, Internal SSD, M.2 PCIe Gen4 ×4 NVMe 1.4, transfer speeds up to 7300 MB which is £48.48
will this work well with the above NAS & do i need to use a heat sink or anything with this and if so what heat sink and/or thermal pads to buy.
if they work well going get four 2 for read & right speeds and two 4 gb ones for extra storage.
if this one not good what would you recommend please
NVMe must be best one"s thanks in advance
thanks in advance

Best NAS for me? |

Hi,
I'm looking for a NAS drive for my small business (2 Users) - The business is an Architectural Practice so we have some larger CAD Files (average of about 20mb up to about 60mb).
So I am looking for a decent NAS to securley store these files - I probably only need about 4TB of storage so was thinking of a 2 Bay drive with 2No 4TB drives mirrorred.
Some of these files are very valuable due to the time spent working on them so the data needs to be safe.
I will also need remote access for when I am out on site.
I might also store a few photos and videos on the NAS.
My budget is about £500 - I have been considering the Synology DS224+ with two 4TB Seagate Ironwolf NAS drives.
I've watched a few of your reviews and am now even more confused and wonder what you would choose if it was your money?
Many thanks!
Regards Rob
