I am new to NAS/QNAP and cannot figure out what is wrong. I have a nice USB external Blu-Ray/DVD optical drive that also has 4 USB ports and a SD card slot that I've used for an old laptop. Plugging it into a TS-464 and the file station doesn't recognize/mount any disks I put in. It does however recognize all the USB drives as well as USB mouse/keyboard and the SD card that I insert into the optical drive. Is there anyway I can get the QNAP to recognize the DVD/Blu-Ray or CD I put in?

I’m so confused. I’m just looking for a very basic 2 bay nas for reliable storage. Don’t need it to do Plex etc as have a small pc doing decoding. Literally want a cheap as chips reliable mirrored nas internal to my network. Any recommendations? Doesn’t have to be fancy just reliable and relatively sensible with read write times. It will store data and films for processing by Local PC server for Plex but only hosting the files themselves. Thanks. Colin

Hello, I am trying to buy a DAS (preferably) that supports the PWDIS power disable mode? I know I can use either power cable adapters but HDDS would not then fit in a DAS/NAS, the HDDs I want to use are the enterprise SATA and are PWDIS, I know about the kapton tape situation but that won't have the PWDIS feature I am interested in using, Raid enclosures I would hope to have an hdmi port and a usb-c 3.1/2 Gen 2 (10Gbs), if NAS would hope for at least a 2.5 Gb on it, this would be used as a media storage to be used directly with one or maybe two computers not hooked up to network.

I was a loyal customer of span.com who seem to have disappeared off this earth. Used to follow their YouTube channel and informational guides which now realise were from the members of this forum.

I am looking for additional Synology NAS but with more memory than normally provided as default. Span used to install 16GB for me and has been working great (touching the proverbial) for several years without problems on several boxes mostly DS918+ and DS920+. 

Searched around but cannot decide on suitable UK supplier I can rely on based on the excellent information on this site as to what is possible. Again for 4 bay Synology NAS with 4 x 14GB or higher drives.

Anybody have any preferences as to suppliers if such recommendations are allowed?

Hi, I'm trying to find a nas device that has dnla media server, so I can stream all my movies from the nas to smart tv's in my house. your latest video recommends the Qnap tr-004 which according to qnap if far to old to do this. Do you know if this is the case for many nas devices? as all I want is to store family pics and stream ripped dvd's in my house.

I am a little bit confused because the Seagate Ironwolf Pro Version with Model Number ST12000NT001 does not show up in the compatibility list from Terramaster.
Other versions like the 22 and 24 TB version of the NT versions does.
I wrote to Terramaster and got just the answer to look into the compatibility list which doesn’t help.
Now I hope that you can help me with your experience if the NT versions of Seagate Ironwolf work proper with Terramaster NAS or if I should change my order to NE versions to be save because i have the doubt that a return of already unpacked HDD‘s would get complicated when I would test them in Terramaster NAS F4-424 Pro.

Hi Robbie and Eddie, I hope this finds you both well. I've been watching your videos about the Terramaster NAS D8 and D5 and they've been hugely helpful.

I'm a filmmaker and have been working specifically in-house at charities for the past nearly 10 years. I've started at a new charity and setting up a post production workflow from scratch basically.Currently I'm editing off 2TB SSDs and backing up on spare hard drives, and trying to backup on the cloud when I get a chance. But obviously that's an awful and unsafe way to work. So... this is what I'm thinking (maybe getting initial HDDS and SDDs and then building up) -

I have 8 Linux boxes that each have local Timeshift/Lucky backups to a dedicated internal SSD (usually sata 512GB, but sometimes an m.2). Each of these Linux boxes has a weekly or more often an alternating day CRON job that rsync's these local backups to a the DS224+ (2x bonded 1Gbps ports directly to router) on my local LAN (2.5Gbps). The Lucky rsyncs run under 25mins. The TimeShift rsyncs can take an hour or a bit more. Then once per week the DS224+ does a 'Hyper Backup' to an old DS416J out in a detached garage (via buried Cat6 to the 2.5Gbps switch the 416j is plugged into). This weekly backup of the DS224+ has a 4 hour window. Now, finally to the question...

Will replacing the 416j with a QNAP TS-216G-US or some magic to get the 416j to be 2.5Gbps buy me enough time to reduce this 4hour window for the DS224+ backup? Or is this just a waste of money for not much time savings?

Hi young man Thank you for your video's. I have just bought a Robustel 5020 for home use as a 5g router with the intension of getting an external antenna if needed. It is in new condition but unfortunately despite a factory reset and downloading the SW and HW guides it has defeated me. I took it to my local computer shop who said they couldn't deal with it and directed it to the mobile shop across the road who also told me they couldn't deal with . I am looking for someone to set it up via post or talk me through via telephone /zoom.

I'm completely new to NAS systems as of last week and I know I need to move from external ssd's and HDD's. l'm a photographer/videographer and I edit in davinci resolve (typically h.264 and h.265 files) and Lightroom (raw photos) off an m1 MacBook Pro and I currently don't have anyone in need of accessing files as of now so it's just me editing my work but that could change in the future. My WiFi router speed is 50Mpbs
My goal is to not get more than what I need now but could upgrade the NAS in the future if needed.
(Currently thinking of a RAID 5 setup with three hard drives with around 16tb -24tb to last me a while)
Could you suggest a NAS system that might be helpful and any explanation would be helpful as well.
I do genuinely want to understand more about NAS systems
