looking to upgrade to a 4 bay from the QNAP Ts-251D |

Hi there --
I bought the TR-002 a couple years ago and am very disappointed in my decision. I want to migrate my 4 16TB exes drives to a 4 bay NAS. I assume at this point it's best t go with a new QNAP since I've spent all the effort to understand how it works (and it at times has pushed me way beyond my existing level of technical understanding. But wanted to see if you have any advice. I am on complete OSX / IOS environment for better and for worse, and was looking at the TS-464, though I can't seem to find any availability. Any top of mind suggestions for my situation?
Thanks,
RIch

I have a new Arm m1 mac, I've been contemplating a Nas for a while now, I've been watching your videos but still procrastinating and have lost so much data in the past I'm so sick of it. while I don't think as a new user the thunderbolt would be necessary, I'm thinking 4bay, id like it to be upgradable with the .m2 SSD, primarily used for data storage of photos. but also some security cam footage. I did look at the QNAP TS-451+-8G 4 Bay Diskless NAS Quad-core 2.0GHz CPU 8GB RAM to save cash but id like something with a metal Housing, so I thought the QNAP TS-473-8G 4 Bay Diskless NAS AMD RX-421ND Quad Core 2.1GHz CPU 8GB RAM would be a better option and it allows me to upgrade in the future if I don't find it fast enough. I don't really like to wait for things to load up, and I don't particularly want to pay for the Pentium as it's a bit out of my range after I buy 2 x 8GB HDDs. After watching your videos I decided to go with Qnap for the feel and look, Rather than going back to the Windows look of Synology. Thanks for making the Videos. they have been Very Informative, but Probably a little over my head still.

Hello,
Thanks for the great content you provide on your channel.
** Background **
I'm looking to replace my existing NAS, a Netgear Readynas NV+ which has done 15 years service (albeit with a second set of hard disks) It has 4 x 2TB drives providing ~5.4TB of space, which is mostly used.
The NAS is accessed via Windows File Explorer given there's no real apps or web interface given it's vintage. (to access the NAS I need to run an old version on FireFox)
Copying files is really slow, averaging ~5MB/s when copying photos.
The main router in the house is a only Gigabit
The datasheet advises the Netgear noise is ~31.5dBA at 1m with the NAS located in an open study area of the house. I really notice the fan noise on this unit.
We use the current NAS to store:
- Common MS office /PDF / similar files for 5 users [100GB];
- Our family photo album [250GB];
- Multi media files [4.5TB]
** Options **
I'm primarily looking a Synology unit due to the better software experience (user friendly software is a key requirement from others in my family!)
With the help of your video content, I've narrowed the choice down to either the DS920+ or DS1522+ In Australia these retail for $1000 (920 : including 4GB additional memory) and $1,299 for 1522+
Of the two units, my preference is for the DS1522+ due to the 5 bays and 8GB of RAM pre-installed.
The plan would be to use SHR and populate with 3 x 10TB Seagate Ironwolf drives which provides 20TB usable space (expandable with 2 more drives later)
Do I need to worry about mixing and matching drive vintages when I eventually add more drives?
I have looked at the DS1621+ but this comes with a higher price tag (AU$1,449) as well as an increased the noise level (25.2dBA at 1m)
Currently I run Kodi on a dedicated HTPC connected to the TV and mapped NAS drives with the media. This has worked well to date.
Do you have any thoughts on my selection of a DS1522+ given the above information?
Am I being too narrow focusing only on the Synology range?
Thanks in advance for your time reviewing my request.
Regards,
Bruce

DS1522+ with Apple TV Infuse Streaming |

Hello and thank you!
I currently stream media from an aging imac to my apple tv using an app called Infuse. I also have about 8tb of photos stored an aging hard drive RAID (not NAS). I would like to get rid of the old imac and use a future NAS to hold my photos as well as my media to stream to the apple tv.
I am thinking about the new DS1522+ with 6 or 8TB drives in either raid 5 or 6. My biggest concern is the new processor in the DS1522+ which isn't as good for media streaming. But I've heard that Infuse puts all the transcoding work onto the apple tv so the NAS wouldnt have to do any transcoding any way. Does that mean the DS1522+ would work for me?
Second question. The WD Red Plus drives go from 5400rpm at 6TB to 7200rpm at 8TB. Is it worth getting the faster drives even though I don't really need the space?
Thank you!
Max

Hello! We are a small Nonprofit with a lot of data! We need a robust dual power supply NAS to replace our current synology NAS. Ideally we were thinking of a NAS we can edit video from (Synology SA3400), but its a huge commitment cost-wise. Then we started looking at editing off of our QNAP via thunderbolt and getting the Synology RackStation RS2421+/RS2421RP+. We need to evaluate the pros and cons of 10Gb and rewiring our whole office. We also need to decide if we will edit off this new NAS or primarily use it for office files and not worry about editing off of it. This just means we need to come up with a way to sync up our existing QNAP with this new NAS.

Question about swapping Wifi card in laptop |

Hi! I just have a quick question regarding replacing a wifi card in a laptop (I was watching a video from 2 months ago on this topic):
Question: what would I do in terms of driver installation if the wifi card I’m replacing is the exact same model as the one I had?
I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN517-51 with an Intel Ax200 wifi 6 card in my system. Recently I was doing a fan replacement and repaste of the heat sink, and I accidentally pulled the aux cable (while reattaching the heat sink) and the little aux connector attached to my wifi card broke off while trying to reattach the wire.
I have no idea where the connector went to be honest, I don’t even know if it’s stuck to the wire connector (I’ve tried having a look and comparing online, I don’t think it is but I can’t be certain), but I digress
I wasn’t sure if I should upgrade to AX210 (cause I’m scared of it not working after replacing, then I have no working laptop at all), so I was wondering whether I could just do a straight swap of AX200 for AX200 and would that require any driver installation beforehand, if the card is the same model as the old…?
Or would upgrading to AX210 be better all round as a solution. I just want the least painful and quickest experience, which is why I thought AX200 for AX200 may be as I may not need to fiddle with driver updates
Any advice you have on this would be massively appreciated. Can’t find an answer to this exact question anywhere online. I watched your video regarding wifi card replacement (very helpful on showing the process btw, very appreciative of it) but it only mentioned upgrading a wifi card (which would of course need a new compatible driver installed), not replacing a wifi card with the same model
Thanks in advance
Patrick

Migrate data from broken ReadyNAS NV+ drives |

Hello, I have a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ with two drives configured in X- RAID RAID 5 I believe. The ReadyNAS power supply appears to have died. I also have two Synology DS412+ devices available to me.
If I add the two drives from the ReadyNAS NV+ to the Synology will the Synology software give me the option to migrate the data? If not, are there other NAS devices that will read, recover or migrate the data from the ReadyNAS drives?
I typically work in a Windows environment and have access to a SATA/IDE USB adapter.
What other options might I have to recover the data from the drives?
Thanks, Mike

WI FI card for QNAP NAS |

Hi,
I am planning to purchase a QNAP TVS-472XT. I have a couple fo questions.
1. Can I use it as a wireless NAS by installing either the QNAP QXP-W6-AX200 wifi 6 card or the QNAP QWA-AC2600 cards? This means that the NAS is not connected by wire to the home router.
2. If yes, which of the two cards is better?
3. If no (meaning it is connected to the router by wire, can I use to wirelessly back up my computer or retrieve files on the NAS. Which card would be better?
Thank you.
Cheers,
Sandeep
