Thanks so much for providing all the info you do! I'm trying to find the best solution for storage as my desktop is running out of space and there are so many options! Here is some background.
- Current environment is Windows desktop with 4 TB
- Moving to Mac laptop within 6 months
- primary application is storage of photos (Lightroom/Photoshop)
- would like to do more video in future
- do most of work at home with ability to direct connect
- not looking for cheapest solution but wanting to invest in best value
- speed is important!
- I'm in IT so can figure out the tech setup
I'm thinking a 4 Bay unit with ability to directly connect when I'm at home and starting with 3 *GB drives in RAID 5.
Thanks!

I currently have 8 staff using Apple laptops in and out of the office (hybrid since Covid). All connections are wireless. We use Dropbox for all our files which is £150 a month. We all like the fact that Dropbox is just like any other folder on the computer . Sometimes we have the files on the laptop and sometimes leave it in the cloud. This is expensive and doesn’t back up emails so I’m looking at hosting it myself with a backup at my home in case of complete loss at the office. The internet is fast enough for us all to upload and download to and from Dropbox (fiber in official and about 70 download at home) I have no idea where to start. I had a chat with some guys at qnap. It would be good to have Time Machine backups too. Thanks

Client video gallery. |

I teach an on camera acting class in New York. Currently edit and edit encode all the footage. From there I upload it to my website which has a video gallery directory for my clients to view or download. This is time very time consuming as I have to export and then upload.
I bought an asustor lockerstor 4 gen 2. My goal is if I export the video directly to a folder in the NAS I can send a link of that folder for my students to view and download their videos. This is possible. I’ve got a certificate and everything but the webpage has no thumbnail so my clients can see which video is there’s like it is on my website.
I’m trying to find an app or plugin to allow the videos to be presented in medium or large icon as they would in say windows explorer. If I don’t, my students will be overwhelmed trying to find their clips.
I’ve been researching and researching and I’ve run out of patience. This seems like kinda old fashioned tech that doesn’t seem to exist.

NVMe SSD NAS options & requirements |

I've read your entire review of the QNAP TBS-464 and am pretty impressed with the product. Great review also! I've been wanting to build a NVMe SSD NAS for many years but haven't really found the time to do the research. Seeing that the QNAP TBS-464 now exists (which would definitely meet my storage requirements) and was the first of its kind, I was wondering if you know and can recommend any other NVMe SSD NASs that have been introduced to the market since. Any with improved CPUs, upgradeable memory, etc?
Here are my "requirements":
1. The compactness of the TBS-464 is great, but NOT a requirement. I'm OK with the typical enclosure for a NAS, including having bays and status lights and all, as long as the it supports M.2 PCIe SSDs and not the SATA ones.
2. Im thinking of starting off with two 4GB SSDs with the ability to add more SSDs later. So looking for support of 4+ M.2 connectors.
3. The purpose for my NAS is to store photo, movie, music , and document files. But I also want it to act as a Plex media server (not sure if that means Plex would be installed on the NAS or would it need to be installed on the separate server machine). But basically it would serve the specific media files I allow it two. So I'm not sure if I would need partition
the storage space into two separate parts where one part would store the content (movies/music) for Plex and the other part would just be basic file storage (documents/photos) that my family members can access.
4. Ideally, I would like to set access control to the NAS files based on user. For example, I would be able to access all files in the system, but my kids would only be able to access files in their own named folders.

Plex install failing to create log folder |

Hello! I just purchased a DS920+ last week and have been following your youtube video series "Synology NAS Setup Guide 2022." I'm currently attempting to install Plex on it but when I get to the first step where it prompts for "Optional name of a shared folder where PMS can write its Log files," no matter what I do it does not create a shared folder anywhere on my volume 1. I read through the comments hoping anyone had a solution to this and one user commented that "most newer versions of Synology OS are incompatible with Plex." As I just purchased my NAS a week ago I would fall into this category. Do you know if this statement is true or not? Any advice on how to proceed or do I just need to wait until Plex catches up with the latest DSM version? Thanks so much for all your help and wonderfully incisive videos.

Looking to purchase around 4 or so ip cameras for security around my home. Looking for decent quality, we have heavy snow and cold temperature where I live in the winter and humid summers in the 80(f)s.
Looking to maximize my purchase of the TS-453E (thank you, for your great videos that help me choose this model). I replaced a very very old TS-119 I have had for around 10 years or so.
Thank you!
Matt

Hi Guys,
Hi just hitnking to buy a Synology NAS. I have a regular ISP with router 1Gbit...
No Public Ip, No Port Forwarding.
I am concerned about the QuickConnect Relay speed as I would like to use that to connect to my NAS.
Can you maybe explain what Up/Down speeds I can expect using the realy? I was reading on the internet that it is pretty slow.
Therefore I think that maybe a NAS would fit my need for home environment.
And what about speed with QNAP for similar configuration?
Thanks in advance

NAS 920+ configuration? |

Hi,
My brother and I are very new novice users of a Synology 920+ NAS and we have watched some of your videos about how to set up e.t.c. which have been extremely helpful.
Up until now we have been using just a USB drive to copy and save files from our pcs and phones in case one of the pcs or phones fails, but we wanted to set up a NAS to automatically save pics from the mobiles and to store important files from the Windows pcs.
We have three 4TB drives that we are looking to use and we are wanting to know the best way to configure them to achieve our goal of having two of these drives in the NAS working constantly, with one allowing us to store the mobile phone pictures and important pc files. The second drive to be a live identical copy of the first drive, in case one of these two fail and with the third drive we want to be able to copy or clone the first drive, physically remove it and store it in a remote location as a longer term backup every 3-6 months.
Is there a way we can set this up with the Synology 920+ so that we can use it the way I have explained?
Also can we then take the third drive and connect it to a pc and copy/view the files on it or is it only readable through the Synology NAS drive?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

DSM Login Timeout |

Hello! Sorry to bother you, but I'm having trouble finding a solution to a problem I'm having. I have a Synology DS920+. I don't know if it's relevant, but its got 3 14tb Exos drives installed. Anywho, my NAS is only connected to my network, no remote access. I can access my drive through my computer as normal, no issues. But when I try to log into my DSM (http://192.168.1.6:5000/#/signin) it just times out every time. It has worked no problem until the last couple of weeks.
I've tried:
-Unblocking from Windows Defender (wasn't blocked).
-Turned off both firewalls public/private
-Synology Assistant doesn't find my nas on my network
-Web assistant doesn't find anything.
-Cleared cache
-Tried a different browser - Currently on Firefox - tried Chrome for test.
It was acting funny - I'm new to NAS. I think it was doing maintenance and I thought maybe I got hacked cause the lights were going on my disk for no reason. And I shut it off. I did this on/off as needed to backup things for a couple weeks. Then it dawned on me if may be doing background shit and let it go. It ran with active lights for 2.5 days. I thought maybe I'd figured it out. It still doesn't work.
Any suggestions!? I appreciate any help.

How to remove the heatsink from the SN850X |

Hello, have a lenovo tiny (1 liter case). bought the SN850X but this case is very small and the space for the M.2 SSD drives (2) is pretty small. With the heatskin on, it hits the cover and you cannot close the case. Can you give me good instructions to remove the heatsink? You said you did it, but did not show us how :-)
Best!
Javier
