NAS for Truenas Core |

Hello,
I had been planning on building out an 18u rack and populating it with some diy low power and quiet servers. Then I had a baby and my budget shrank drastically. I'm fairly competent with Enterprise level hardware and software, the management of and the upkeep of, but my knowledge in consumer devices is much more shallow.
I stumbled onto your videos on installing TrueNAs on various desktop NAS's and instantly thought this could work.
I'd like one that has onboard HDMI out already, quad core, RAM that is expandable 16GB or 32GB and 4 bays. I've found many that have some of these features but not all. Some of the hardware decisions the differing NAS companies have made perplex me as well, 10GB networking but only 8GB RAM.
All this to ask what you find to be the most capable 4 bay NAS to run TrueNAS Core on.
Thanks,
Nick

NAS for data storage and remote access via PC/phone |

Hello there,
first of all thank you so much for creating this great content. It is incredible usefully to me an many other poeple, I appreciate what you are doing very much.
I am looking to buy a new NAS. It is just for data storage and remote access via PC/phone in a home (none buisness) enviroment, maybe a bit of mediaserver. So nothing to fancy.
Espacially i am looking for a Terramaster F2-223 at the moment. I can find nothing about the softwaresupport, most important securtiy updates.
Is there any chance you have any experiance from the past how long Terramaster/QNAP/Synology is usually delevering Softwareupdates/Securitypatches for there products. Since the end of security patches will be also the "end of lifetime" for a device wich is used for remote access, i would be very useful to know how the diffrent companys differ in this point.
Thank you so much for answering, maybe this Inforamtion would be also useful for other potential buyers.
Thanks and have a good time
Sascha

Synology or QNAP? |

I have an old Synology 2-bay that is almost full. I want to upgrade to a 4-bay. I use it for storing my iTunes library, Apple TV library, using.Plex over them and I also use the cloud station. I have watched your videos and I’m leaning toward the QNAP. However, I really like the Synology DSM and never had a problem whereas I have read that the QNAP software is hard work and it is susceptible to hackers. Can you please advise?

SSD only NAS |

After a recently horrific experience with Drobo of late i am looking to replace my NAS system... my CTO made the recommendation to go with SSD storage instead of HDD for this occasion so i am looking for SSD only NAS options - i found a review of yours from 2019 but cannot find much more reviews / comparisons / recommendations so am seeking a few pointers. NAS will predominantly be used for storage of my photos (i shoot in a semi professional capacity outside fo the day job). I'm not particularly technical so need something that i can set up and not worry about.

2023 Synology 6-bay with intel chip likely? |

Hi! Thank you so much for all the info on your site and the free advice! You guys are doing a fantastic and super appreciated job! I have a 4-bay Syno 918+ for my home media, PCs backup and plex (local only), itself backed up on a 2-bay Qnap plus online cloud. I am thinking about upgrading the Syno to a 6-bay Intel quad-core NAS and using the 918+ for its backup. Right now my two options are the Qnap 664 and 653. Since I'm not in a rush, I wonder if I should wait in hope that Synology replaces the 620Slim or recalibrates the non-plus line for the home/Soho enthusiast. Given the stronger corporate focus of the Plus line (wit Ryzen...), I am hopeful that there might be better (and cheaper?) options including a 6-bay model. What are your thoughts? Would this be after CES? Thanks again!

NAS Best Fit For Small Business |

Hi
I am looking to convert the business I manage from google docs etc to a NAS System.
We are a small construction company. But the business is growing and our file management is all over the place.
The system needs to
-be centralized and provide access to anyone in the business needing it from wherever they may be.
-become a 10 year plan for data storage and management
-bank surveillance from a few cameras at our yard
-Maintain client files and information
-divide access between secure and unsecured files
-handle 3D Revit and CAD files
-Be able to operate seamlessly while working in 3D rendering environments and presentations.
I have looked at some 4-bay Synology options, but would like some expert advice before purchasing.
Thank you for your insight

The right 5 or 10 Gbit ethernet Thunderbolt adapter |

I'm getting a Synology 923+ with the 10 Gbit card, and looking for the optimal way to connect my macbook and iMac to it.
I've noticed current 10 Gbit Thunderbolt offerings (like SONNET Solo10G) are both bulky and getting warm (more battery usage etc too). In computer hardware terms they have been on the market for a while.
Is is likely a new generation chipsets will hit the market soon to enable new product to run cooler and more energy efficient?
If not, It's also interesting to look at cheaper 5 gbit solution meanwhile, but they need to be 5 real Gbit, and the ones I've seen, like the one from Qnap, is from my understanding limited by USB 3.1 speeds. Unless I've missed out on something.
Any thoughts or loose predictions on this is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi!
Got a question, I have the DS923+ and I am looking to get NVMe Cache drives. On the website of synology I can see that both the SNV3410 and the SNV3400 are compatible.
The SNV3410 is newer and I would like to get that but the SSD pool that they mention on the website talks about the SNV3400...
Do you know if the SNV3410 is compatible for SSD storage pool?

DS1515+ |

Hi,
Can't find a number to call you. We run a full DS1515+ which has died and I am abroad so can not repair at moment - no power up, so guess power supply of which I have ordered a spare. A few months outside warranty and of course no numbers for Synology support UK. This device has been swapped by them in 2019.
I gather it is obsolete now, but their German office suggested looking for a ds1520+ as a back up / spare but I can not find one online. There is a DS1522+ but it is far too expensive for just a spare at aound £800
We are a repair company on gaming machines to component level, so hopefully will be able to repair, but looking to seewhat else is avaialable without drives that will be a plug in exchange if needed + looking for a repair centre in UK if we can not fix this time.
A friend has met you at an exhibition and recommended conatct
but this week in a very cold Czech republic

920 ongoing support |

I have a DS411j that I'm wanting to upgrade. I'm considering the 920 or 923. Mostly it will be just file storage but I like the BTRFS snapshot features and i may consider running plex. I don't currently have any 4k content in my media library so either should work for either nas. I've seen good deals on the 920 but am worried that I might miss out on new features. The 923 will support ssd storage so I'd miss out on that but that's probably OK for my home use. Are you aware of other planned features that the 923 would support but the 920 wouldn't?
