  Mid level home NAS solution
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-01-2025, 07:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi! My research has lead me to the QNAP TS464 8G with 4x WD Red Plus 6Gb drives. But this drive is now a bit older - even the NasCompares Youtube video from April 2024 mentioned that. Is it still decent? Or are there better more up to date options (from other suppliers or QNAP) that might be worth looking at? I'm new to NAS but I'm (relatively) technologically adept. Thanks!

10GB Networking for UGreen DXP4800 Plus
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-01-2025, 02:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am preparing to set up a UGreen DXP4800 Plus with two 20TB drives, 2 1TB NVME's. My motherboard is a ASUS Tuf Gaming X570 Plus. I added a 10GB network card (and a 1GB is already present).

My planning is to run 10GB network cable to the 10DB card on the NAS for fast access between the Desktop to the NAS (for Sports Photography). I will run 1GB from the 2.5GB card on the NAS to connect to the internet (1GB router). Most examples in YouTube utilize a 10GB switch instead.

Will my two lines function correctly (10GB Desktop to NAS, 1GB NAS to internet) while keeping my original 1GB nework card from Desktop to Internet?

  mini pcs vs laptop
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-31-2025, 06:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Thanks for the detailed overview of the Minisforum AI X1 Pro Review. I'm looking for a laptop or mini pc that can support 4 displays for forex and futures trading.

The MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-370 Mini PC is a contender as well as the ASUS Zenbook Duo.

Minimum specs >

CPU ? one that is reliable & up to the task - not the Intel Core i9-14900K which had/has massive stability issues.
RAM - 32GB,
GPU - NVDIA 4060 or similar ,
250GB primary drive and 2TB secondary drive,

However, which business class laptops would you recommend that suit my criteria ? Reliability is important.

thank you.

  NAS or SERVER
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-31-2025, 08:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

It is for an architecture studio that works mainly with CAD files and rendering files.

There are six computers in the office, each independent of the other but accessing a shared file database (we currently use a Synology DS216j NAS).

We need to upgrade our storage and security, and we are wondering what would be most appropriate (NAS or basic server).

I hope you can give us some advice on this. Of course, any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

  NAS for beginner homelab
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-30-2025, 05:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

This is my first time setting up a homelab and after playing around with a raspberry pi I decided I wanted to start a media server. I recently bought 2 14tb SAS HDDs and need help (pretty lost) on what NAS would fit my needs the best. I don't watch many shows but I'd like to move away from having a ton of subscriptions and like the challenge of setting it up myself.

Thank you for the help!

  Beginning NAS journey
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-30-2025, 12:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Beginner NAS user above with requirements for document/photo storage, AV media streaming and support connectivity to multiple computers locally as well as remotely. Must be capable of supporting growth, either via system upgrades or daisy chaining.. I'm leaning toward the QNAP -TS-664 because of security concerns and possibly running TrueNAS

Alternate Suppliers for UGreen DXP4800Plus NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-28-2025, 08:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

do you know of any UGreen Suppliers or Affiliates which are located in Australia?

I don't wish to purchase from the US or European sites.

Alternatively, are you aware of any Suppliers in Asia which sell to Australia?

Regards,

Clem

  New NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-27-2025, 02:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Robbie,

Looking to add another NAS. I currently have a QNAP and a Synology.

Would you go with the N5 Pro, the newer UGREEN DX6011 Pro or the Zetlabs new one?

Backup speed is in the top 5 of needs.

  DAS enquiry
Posted by: Enquiries - 05-27-2025, 10:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Dear Team,

Hope you can assist. I wish to purchase a DAS - as a media storage, and wish to connect my current HDDs to it. At present I am using a 2-bay HDD docking station, but have been looking at the following:
QNAP TR-004
Yottamaster 4 Bay Type C Hard Drive Enclosure
CENMATE 4 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure

The above will be connected to my existing Synology NAS via USB 3 connection - to act as extended storage also.
My only concern is that I don;t want to lose data - and with these can i simply put my existing data laden HDDinto them without an issue? Or will they start to initialise the disks thus deleteing whats already on them? I have read many a reviews and stories - and hence am a bit concerned - hence i thought I'd seek your advice on these.
The CENMATE and Yottamaster i can pickup for around the £100-£130 mark - so is acceptable - whereas the QNAP is around the £250 mark.

Thank you for you advice - and God Bless.
James
