Hi
I recently bought a new ASustor 5404t NAS. i did the Ez Sync between my computer and NAS. now i want to backup my NAS to external NAS but like other shared folders Ezsync folder is not visible to select in Back up and restore.
Also, when i used Readynas i had ready cloud but, i was still able to connect my Samsung Galacy through myfiles. when i tried to configure Asustor it displays SMB2/SMB3 but when i enter credentials it says SM2/3 might not be turned on i check NAS SMB is enabled so not sure.
Thanks

Replacing QNAP NAS |

Hi,
I would like to ask your opinion to replace an old QNAP TS-859.
I got quite a lot of photos, movies, music that keeps growing.
I wanted something good enough to handle the backups of 3 laptops, some sync/Time Machine, be able to stream, using it as external drive for some hungry space video apps. Also start using VM on the NAS. Optional, but want to go for the QuTS Hero OS.
Having a HDMI is also a good plus, but not a deal breaker.
Wanting to keep on QNAP, but up for other options.
Saw the QNAP TS-673A, It will need some upgrades, biggest down, its that is an old model (over 3 year).
Also checked QNAP TVS h674, quite expensive, overkill, but future proof and no upgrades. Finally the Asustor Lockerstor 6 Gen 2, needs some upgrades, but don't know the brand.
Discarded Qnap TS-664 because you cant upgrade RAM.
Above all, want something reliable and with long time spam to next buy.
Thank you

UGreen DXP8800 Plus Ways To Access External HDD With Plex |

So, I have a UGreen DXP8800 Plus NAS and have chosen to use the UGOS Pro OS. Why? Gluten for punishment one would think. Anyway, UGOS doesn’t allow a USB drive (or Thunderbolt drive) to be accessed in the same way most other NAS manufacturers typically do. Such external drives are accessible from within UGOS but not discoverable on the Network.
I was reading an article and watching some videos on how to export, backup and edit docker containers. Then an idea struck.
On to the question:
Since the UGOS interface doesn’t provide a way for Plex in a docker container to access external HDDs (say a 5 bay or 8 bay DAS), maybe there is a manual way.
Perhaps one could:
1) Export the known UGOS working Plex container.
2) Connect the USB or Thunderbolt DAS containing multiple HDDs (JBOD / RAID)
3) SSH into the UGreen NAS and use Linux commands (bugger, I don’t know any) to discover all internal and all external drives attached to the NAS.
4) Edit the Plex docker container to provide paths to the external drive
5) Use the new manually edited container which will now hopefully allow Plex to see these external drives.
That’s the plan anyway. I question if I can even attempt it because I have to look up the commands and am totally new to this.
Anyone one have any suggestions on this?
Much appreciated.

Photo and Movie Archive |

Hi, I have a 30 TB of movies and photos. Now I am using two external WD hard drives for these media.
My problem is I want to store it on one hard drive but also want to backup (not a zip or other formats, just as original) so if something happen, I can use backup drive. I also have to say that my archive is going bigger every year so I need a solution which will be helpful for future.

Home NAS suggestion |

Hi!
I am tech enthustiastic and I love trying to do tech-things on my own (f.e. built all my computers, modded router etc. so I know something) but after 5 - 10 hours of research, I still find myself blown away about DIY-NAS.
I would like to build NAS myself because I want customizibility and freedom of "turn-key"-companies and their softwares, especially if they discontinue. End goal is cost-effective, maybe high-upfront cost with low uptime cost (low idle/use power consumption etc). Jellyfin/TrueNas/Unraid undecided.
Ideally my dream DIY-NAS would include 12 - 24 TB storage and I've been looking into Seagate Ironwolf-HDD's. I am fond of Fractal cases and I am thinking to use Fractal Node 304. Power Supply I am looking to buy Corsair or Seanonic platinum/titanium PSU. Are these ok or do you guys suggest to change something?
Biggest thing to think about is CPU/Motherboard/RAM. I've read much about i3-N305 but also read it lacks 2 PCIe-ports. Is it still ok? What about i3-13100F?

Drobo 5N migration |

I am in the process of finding a replacement for my Drobo 5N, which is still going strong, but I’ve already rolled the dice longer than I should have. So my questions are:
1. To get my data off the Drobo 5N, is temporarily transferring everything onto an external drive over the network my only solution for getting that data off?
2. Once I do get that data off, could I then just eject my Drobo drives, put them into my new NAS, and reformat them for use in those drives? Or will I need all new drives? Two of my drives are only a couple years old 6TB WD Red drives, so it would be nice to reuse them.
3) Last question. Are there any off-the-shelf network NAS' you recommend for former Drobo 5N users? I'd like a plug-&-play consumer solution that works well in my Apple ecosystem, with built-in redundancy similar to what the Drobo offered, and a minimum of 4 bays, but preferably 5. Thank you!

Plex / Enable Telnet/SSH Service on DS224+ ? |

Hey NAS Compares. Really love your work and valuable advice you offer - Thank a million!
I'm running a dedicated Plex sever, alone, on a ds224+
I understand previous NAS iterations benefitted however, would you still recommend enabling Telnet and SSH services and adding VaapiDriver="i965" to preferences on my ds224+ ?
Has this bug been fixed for the ds224+ ?
Not sure if related yet as only sometimes a HECV file stutters whilst playing on a remote and local plex client.
Many thanks
Dave

Quiet NAS HDDs |

Which seem to be the quietest 7200 rpm NAS HDD for 12TB to 16TB? I'm using Seagate Ironwolf Pro 10TBs in a QNAP 453D (RAID 5) and they are too loud when working in the same office. I've also used WD RED Pro HDDS, but only in the 6TB form factor (so quieter than the Seagates). I'm looking at moving to the TerraMaster F4-424-Pro with unRAID and four new drives. Any advice appreciated (but not interested in consumer HDDs as reliability matters).
