  Acer Predator GM7000 1tb vs. SK Hynix P41 1tb
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

The Acer Predator GM7000 1tb SSD is going for around $85 in the US right now, while the Platinum P41 1tb is going for $105. Is the SK drive worth the extra $20?
Anecdote: Some reviews state that the Acer drives use 96L NAND but it seems like the drives that actually shipped use 176L. Is this true for the 1tb models as well?

  920+ from UK?
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 07:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Current: 416j+4x4TB (WD CRX 64MB cache)

Change to newer NAS? 923+ not supporting video transcoding Sad 920+ reselling for higher than the 923 (clear market signal)

Use case: bunch of movies which 416j serves fine through my network (SD quality) - but would prefer to be able to transcode on the fly.

Additionally, I have a lot of raw footage from soccer games that take up lots of space. Eventually I intend to reduce those assets as I process them, but I just don't have the bandwidth to go over them, so I keep dragging them along. I wonder whether the 1Gb limitation would be an issue for me.

Finally, found a brand new 920+ on eBay in UK (says UK version) - price is "reasonable" (same as 923). Is there any difference with the US version?

Thanks!

  Synology DS1522+
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am looking for a place to put digital photos I’ve collected since 2003. I have a lot! But I used to be a server hardware guy back in the day and know a thing or two about RAID configurations, etc.. I’m comfortable with this technology, but still a bit dated in my skills. I like the footprint of the 923 over the 1522, but for $100 on Amazon, the 1522 make way more sense. So here is my question: At a bare minimum, what do i need to setup the 1522 with two disks? Say two 4tb or two 8tb. What disks would you recommend? Can i buy the Ds1522+, two disks, power it on and set it up, or do I need a cache, or something more to complete the unit properly?

  Lockerstor
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi,
I recently bought asustor lockerstor 2 gen2 and exploring its capabilities. One of the troubles I am facing is finding duplicate files. Since the NAS runs docker, I thought It would be a breeze to install dupeGuru or czkawka. Unfortunately, I was unable to make them work. I am sure I am not the only one desperate for this functionality, so an answer to this and perhaps a video would be really helpful.
Kind regards.
Michal

  SYNOLOGY DS723+ or QNAP-264-8G
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

I strongly hesitate between the DS723+ and the QNAP TYS264-8G. Apart from the file service, I would like to use it as a hypervisor to run some VMs. I know that SYNO like QNAP allows virtualization.
I'm leaning more towards synology only for the memory which allows me to go up to 32GB
On the other hand, there is no way I would pay for 32 GB of Synology RAM. It's too expensive.
I would like 2x16Gb of compatible RAM (sold on Amazon for exemple) It is ECC DDR4 SODIM RAM. But I can't find anything about it yet and I'm afraid I'm wrong

What do you think about my project
Thanks

PS: sorry for my english

  NAS recommendation
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I would like a NAS strictly for a media server. I would like to use RAID to have redundant backup of my 20 TB media library. I also have nvidia shield pro that I could possibly run NAS thru for transcoding. What NAS would you recommend

Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 10:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello
Wondering whether I could get any help in setting up

1. how to be able to automatically upload photos and videos from my iphone (one directional sync, including e.g. deleting >100 days old files automatically from local folder) AND share those folders in a secure way (separate access rights thru credentials) with family members
2. share further nas folders to colleagues/family members e.g. webdav? be able to mount as network drives securely and access them from remote locations
3.connect qnap nas to USB-Serial CH340 connected ups (NJOY UPLI-LI060KU-CG01B )

confused where to get good res.of inf

  NAS advice
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-26-2023, 04:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a bunch of movies, tv shows, files and photos that are a bunch of different drives (3 8TB's, 2 6TBs and backed up on 3 8TB's seperately). I am looking to build a raid 5 system to have redundancy. The main thing we use it for is to stream the media through iTunes to 4 AppleTV's in the house. I don't access any of it currently externally. I would like to possibly have it setup so my wife and daughter can save their photos they take on their phones go to the Backup as a cloud like option if possible. Just looking for advice if I should get something like a Synology 923+ (Can't find a 920+ for a reasonable price anymore), or is that overkill? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Checklist to confirm all is working
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-25-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am ordering a QNAP TV-673A online via Amazon or B&H, but return policies are generally pretty strict for computers.

What is a good checklist of tests to make sure all my software/hardware is working as expected to ensure nothing is "damaged" under the hood?

I want to make sure I do a thorough inspection of the NAS within 15-30 days should I need return it.

Any guidance is appreciated!
