Synology NAS for transcoding Plex, network connected only |

Long time Plex and Synology user, looking to upgrade my DS216II+ to some better Synology hardware. I'm confused about best choice given that I use network connection only, no HDMI direct to TV, and watch on home network using an Android miBox.
Only have a single 720p plasma TV, although 4K possible when this one dies. Am I still better to go with a device like 920 due to its dedicated GPU, or is my use so low end that the newer 923 could still transcode internet downloaded files easily?
Want to use SHR/RAID and BTRFS with future expansion path, so 4 bay seems better chiice than 2, but budget may ultimately make thzt decision for me.

Choosing NAS |

Hi, I would need a little help here. I am buying my first NAS. The main purpose of it should be replacing Google Photos. I am planning of putting about 8TB of storage inside of it. But I cannot choose between QNAP TS-233 and Synology DS223j. On one hand the QNAP is more powerful, but I heard that Synology has better software. Anyway feature that I use very often in Google Photos is searching using AI. For example if I want to search photo of my car, so I just type "car" and it shows me pictures of my car. I wonder which of the phone apps (QuMagie or Synology Photos) is overall better and also wnich have the better AI recognition. Or should I just choose QNAP for the hardware? I will be very greatfull for any opinion.

NVMe for DS1522+ |

As per my previous request, I have purchased the Synology DS1522+. In order to maximise the performance of it, I would like to add 1 or 2 NVMe's. I have looked at the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. Is this suitable for the DS1522+ (with or without a heatsink?) as I can't see anything in the specs as to whether the 1522+ is Gen 3 or Gen 4 etc. Please help if possible. Many thanks. Keith. PS Although this is for cache, will the 1522+ be able to use the NVMe for storage? K.

Hyperbackup DS1621+ -> DS415play DSM7.1 vs DSM7.2 |

Hello there! A quick query about possible problem if I upgrade my DS1621+ to DSM7.2. I use my old DS415play with Cyberbackup Vault to back up my main NAS. The old DS415play isn't currently compatible with DSM7.2 and may never be. I'm unsure whether the Backup Vault 3.02 on the DS415play will be compatible with the v4 that comes with DSM7.2 should I upgrade my DS1621+. The release notes for Cyberbackup Vault 3.02 doesn't fill me with confidence. Should I hold off upgrading DSM on my DS1621+ until I replace the old DS415play with something DSM7.2 compatible? Thanks!

I recently purchased the Synology DS1522+ (and DX517). The NAS has the standard 8GB RAM & I would like to upgrade to the max of 32GB. I am confused by all the different option types/frequencies etc and would appreciate a simple heads up for the best/fastest etc that I can put in the NAS. Many thanks. Keith.

Over 1Gbps speeds |

I'm a loyal follower of your Youtube channel. Best NAS source out there! Congratulations!
Would love to know how to setup a 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps computer / router / switch / NAS combo. For instance, do I need a router that supports over 1Gpbs, or is it OK to only have a switch that supports that, and connecting the computers and NAS through the switch? Could you recommend a switch?
Can I expand a DS 923+ (which I intend to buy) with an add-on card for higher speeds? Does it need to be from Synology or can I buy from a third party? If so, is there a model you could suggest?
What about a QNAP TS-453Be (which I own)?
I would prefer to have a single ethernet cable connected to each device, instead of bonding LANs. Since I have these 2 NAS devices, bonding would require 4 cables. And 2 more cables for my main computer. That would make 6 already. It becomes very complicated quickly, specially with router/switch configuration and model selection.
Thank you so very much!

Hi there! Like so may others I have been surprised by the Netgear end of life for ReadyCloud. I don't want to use my RN102 NAS anymore as I got a QNAP 473A, but I would like to get my data of the Netgear NAS.
How would I do that?
Thanks

Adding drives |

Hi,
I have a QNAP TS-431P3-2G NAS with two 6TB drives set as a RAID 1. I am new to NAS systems and have been watching you first set up videos - Brilliant information by the way. I have only gone as far as setting a storage volume as I want to add an extra two drives. My question is can I add two larger drives (say 10 - 12 TB) and will I be able to set the four up as a RAID 1 (I like the idea of mirrored drives) such that each 6TB is mirrored and each 10TB the same. Or would it be a better idea to simply add two 6TB.
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
To *NAScompares* First of all, thank you so much for all your valuable videos in regards to the different NAS systems out there, and putting them in a way a newbie like myself can understand it. Due to your videos, I now felt confident enough to finally pull the trigger on buying a NAS system for home 4k media, and to share remotely, as a secondary function, if viable.
*To the forum/NAScompares* I bought a ts-453e qnap. After searching for a week of trying to find out how big of a SSD nvme 2280 pcie gen 3 3x2 to buy, I cannot find ANY information on the size this can handle. I don't want to waste my money at all, but still get the top it can use.
I am wondering if you have any knowledge on this?
It's weird, because I check the compatibility pages on the qnap website, and it keeps recommending devices i didn't even include in the search, so I simply can't trust it.
