Just purchased the Qnap TS-873A bbased on watching your youtube channel as wanting to expand. Currently have a TS410 & TS412 on a 1gigabit network.
My mainPC has 1gig & 2.5 Gig nic
As i have quite a few 1gig hard wired connections i assume i would have to buy a 2.5gig switch.
As i like Qnap was thinking of buying the QWS-1105 5 port switch.
Now my question is, How would i set this up so that i get the full 2.5 from my PC to the Nas, still leaving all my 1gig connections to still have access to my nas.
Would i need the 1gig connected on one port of the Nas and then connect the 2nd 2.5 gig port to the new 2.5gig switch.
Just looking for advise for the best way to connect. tks
if i can give any more info pls advise

DIY NAS or Synology DS1821+ |

I'm thinking about having a NAS and I'm in doubt between building DIY or buying a Synology DS1821+. The DS1823xs+ is now available, but due to the limitations/restrictions of hardware and disk updates (from the brand itself), the end of the SHR and price, it is interesting to know if it is still worth buying a DS1821+? Is the life expectancy of this equipment still long and system updates still to come (for how long)? Or should i choose to build a NAS in a Fractal Design Meshify 2 Xl case, MSI Meg x670e ace motherboard and AMD Ryzen 9 7900 non x CPU? I want the NAS to store documents, photos, videos, plex in all rooms of the house and also for 2 external accesses to the house. Later it may try/evolve (without certainty) into a home assistant and explore artificial intelligence (Big data and machine learning). This will be my first NAS. If you recommend DS1821+ what is the unofficially dual sfp+ card, double NVMe and ram that I should by? Is any difference between 32 or 64 gb of ram?

Hi,
I'm looking to backup a folder on my Synology DS923+ running DSM 7.2 onto a dedicated SSD in my PC, is this possible with Hyper Backup?
I have an SSD setup as D: drive on a PC which is only intended for backing up a folder within the NAS, the old NAS we had required me to do this via a batch file ran via Task Scheduler on Windows 11. The Synology is a massive improvement so hoping this can can be done without a botch job! Struggled to find a youtube video that was similar to my setup...
Thanks, Max.

It has been a while since I wanted to get a NAS to store all the information I accumulate during my life. Now I'm using an old TimeCapsule of 2TB and normal hard drive. I have around 7 to 10 Tb of photos videos and info to save and I was looking for a long term NAS. I was thinking to get a DS1621+ or DS1821+ Synology (for easy of use) worried only by if one day, they get hacked or i get all my info locked. Any news about a future DS1624+ or DS1524+ with better processor or any AI features?

Question about Synology DS415+ |

Hello Guys, first I want to thank you for all the nice explanations.
Maybe you could give me a answer why I cannot update my DS415+ to DSM7.2?
I wont to play around with Joomla 5 and this needed PHP 8.2 but could not find a way to update this, so stuck on PHP 8.0. And it's not available on the Synology Download center.
Also I think of selling my DS415+ and buy an DS423+ , I using a NAS for sharing data, testing websites, Vaultwarden etc. etc. Also there are some options to connect some receivers or SDR-receivers to the NAS, but missing 2 GB of memory. Now it's standard with 2 GB, but needed 4 GB to run at the background a special application.
Could you sent me some info if you have time?
Many thanks
Greetings Danny Branderhorst, The Netherlands.
