Hi Mate, Just want to quickly say I really appreciate your content and regularly come to your channel for guidance ??

I'm a video editor looking for backup solution that will allow me to transfer large projects (1 - 2tb) without any drop-off in transfer speeds. I will edit from it occasionally but the main focus is to copy alot of files as fast as possible.

I recently bought 3 4tb crucial x6's and (i'm not sure if i've some how bought 3 faulty ones) the speed drops off dramatically when copying across large projects, taking almost 4/5 hours to transfer a 1 tb project.

Potential drives I was looking at are Lexar NM790 4TB SSD, Samsung 990 pro 4tb, Crucial P3 Plus 4TB.

The enclosure I was looking at OWC 4m2 thunderbolt. I like the small size of this but from what I understand it only supports Gen 2 so wouldn't be able to harness the full speed of these drives.

I work on a 16" M1 Max macbook 4tb.

Posted by: Enquiries - 02-23-2024, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello
My name is Michael, I have to say l love your videos, im in IT, A tier 2 desktop support for Yamaha and I actually use your advice allot in my work. I have a Zbook with 32 gigs of ram and a 3000 quadro card in it.. I have a external DAS -2 20gig raided already that I use to stores movies and files. I have never build a NAS before and networking is a little out of my scope even though I understand and have to trouble shoot layer 1&2 allot.. I need help, I want to load unraid on that Zbook.. I would be happy to pay you for your service if we can zoom one day and you help guide me in the setup.. Plus I want to load plex and make sure that it is transcoding the movies and not the CPU.. I have a gig service, a perfect place to set up the NAS..
Also one question, once I set up unraid and I plug in my DAS will I have to move all 20 gigs and reformat that DAS and then move everything back., I live in Atlanta Ga… Please if you can assist, I will pay you… I also sent a email

Painful file transfer from PC to NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-21-2024, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I owe the Synology 416Play. I was having issues with the two even talking to one another until I did a clean install of Windows. Now I'm able to run the synology assistant and on occasion do a victory dance when I'm not able to mount it correctly. Any easy fix or could I pay for someone to remotely fix. I'm pretty much below novice as I get notification that my connection is not secure (but I have the network on private).

  JellyFin on NAS TS-264
Posted by: tgelmer - 02-21-2024, 06:58 PM - Forum: Home Multimedia - Replies (6)

I followed the instruction on Youtube video:   QNAP NAS JellyFfn installation - THE EASY WAY TO DO IT

I created a media library for Photos and pointed it to a JellyFInPhotos folder I created with File Station in a path under the Multimedia Share folder.  I placed couple of photos in that directory, but I cannot see those photos in the Photos Library on the Jellyfin server.  Why? What have I missed? Permissions look correct to me.  I am a new use of QNAP and JellyFin.

Thanks

  Nas Replacement help
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-21-2024, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, I have an older Netgear I3 based NAS, owned it for over 10 years now, it is tired and needs a long deserved rest. I have IT experience so I am not lost configuring devices, but for a new NAS I will need videos etc for RAID setup getting plex on it etc. I would like a NAS with integrated graphics, ability to add m2 drives, 2.5gb network port/s, ability to expand. I was looking at QNAP and Synology's as I have read terramaster's UI is not so friendly, and since Netgear is not a player anymore (I like my netgear) these were the best brands to go with. I looked at Synology 923+, 423, 423+, 920+, 1621+ and QNAP 672xt, 251D, 453DX, 653D, 872xt, 1282- either these are not checking the boxes somehow or they aren't available anymore. I was using a plex nas compatibility google doc to try and help me sort through, but it seems that the ones that will do 1080/4k video are all out of my price range. What Synology or QNAP should I try to get?

  DS723+ 22TB Drives
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-21-2024, 06:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I was thinking of getting a DS723+ for storing my media via Plex to watch movies / TV shows on any smart TV in my house. I don't plan on watching movies via phone so would I need to worry about Plex transcoding? I'm also worried about using two 22TB (Western Digital Red Pro) drives because I've checked their compatibility list and they only offer 3rd party drives at 16TB (14TB for Western Digital). I hope they add higher drive sizes soon.

  Home NAS/BeeStation Advice
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-20-2024, 10:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

First love your channel and reviews. I am looking for a NAS to back up my home PC and mobile photos. It will be used by wife and family who are not tech savvy at all. Your recent review of the Synology BeeStation seems perfect. Do you have any other suggestions? I am concerned about it only being a single drive and would also prefer an SSD option. Should I wait for Synology to come out with better versions for BeeStations or do youhave any other NAS suggestions that I should consider.
Thank you
Michael McChargue
