  5g router
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-05-2024, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Im searching for a good and stable 5g router to my home, mainly going to game on it and stream movies. I have 5g tower not so long away. I can spot it from my window. Max 1-2km away.

I cant get fiber so its up to 5g. I would happely pay for a Teltonika rutx50 but Im not sure if its the best choise? It has many features i wont even use. Looked at mikrotik routers aswell but read the support was horrible. I dont know if its true or not but they have some great prices.

Anyway. Could you point me in the right direction?

Best regards.

Timmy

NAS for photo storage and editing, and Plex
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-04-2024, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm looking to replace an ageing PC used for photo storage (current 3.6TB) that has RAID 1 mirroring and cloud backups.

I'd like to go for a NAS that can handle 7TB of photo data, remote photo editing from a laptop, occasional Plex usage, and cloud backups. AI photo tools for searching would be a nice to have.

I'm minded to steer clear to Synology due to restictive drive selection, and most tempted by a Asustor Flastor 6 or 12 but see from reviews it has it's own limitations and maybe a replacement model due.

All recommendations welcome! Thanks.

  923+
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-03-2024, 04:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I’m new to NAS. I thought I did enough homework before making my purchase of 923+. Now it looks like I chose the wrong device. How do I get the most out of this unit for multimedia. Watching videos at home through Apple TV and watching videos away from home on devices like iPads and iPhones? Will plex pass handle the transcoding needs? Or what other options do I have? Thanks for your help and informative videos.

  NAS, DAS Expert Advice
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-02-2024, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I discovered your video while searching for NAS recommendations. Initially considering DS923, your recommendation for DS1522 caught my attention. As a first-time NAS user for personal/home use, I currently rely on a LACIE 4TB external hard drive. However, I seek a more future-proof solution to store photos and videos, preserving memories for my daughter. Planning a gradual approach, I aim to start with a 12TB drive and expand later. Currently using iCloud 2TB, I hope the NAS can replace it, saving costs. With increasing file sizes, especially RAW photos and 4K videos, I estimate needing 2-4TB annually. Your expert advice is much appreciated.

New NAS box to replace my WDMyCloudMirror box but keeping the installed 2x 3Tb drives
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-02-2024, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a WDMycloudMirror box on very light duty for the last 5ish years and looking for a non WD solution to move to - ideally retaining the existing HDDs (came with WD red 2x 3Tb) as is
I no longer trust or need access via the could/web and I have a router that I can VPN back home when needed.
I already have a back up of the data on another 4TB drive and the SMART data on the current drives is still all 'good'
looking for a more up to date solution that I'll be the admin of as the rest of the family aren't up to that.
I'm generally happy with the tech side of things - I've got no current use case for streaming from the box to a TV or other device but do have home/mobile phone video that would be nice to play back occasionally
budget is tight (hence wanting to keep drives) - I like the idea of a Terramaster brand mainly due to cost and option to install alternative OS but not sure of best way forward.
Thanks

  WD PR4100 died
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-02-2024, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

PR4100 with 4 drivesw (2 WDears 2TB and 2 WD Red 4TB) lost power and never booted again. It tries, screen comes on but dies and reboots. 4 sec and 40 sec WD reset did NOT work. I have no other copy of my data (mostly music, photos, and video). What can read these drives so I can migrate? Thanks for any guidance you can provide. WD is useless.

  NAS for home/small business
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-02-2024, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi NAS Experts,
To begin with, I would like to say that I appreciate your work that you put in recognizing storage solutions available on the market.

I run a one-person business from home. I have 2 servers (not rack) with proxmox installed. I would like to purchase a file server that would allow me to move the machines to it and benefit from them via LAN on both servers (shared storage, vmotion, etc.).
I've looked at a lot of your videos (and not only yours) and I don't know what to decide on.

What I have:
- proxmox servers with nvme/SSD drives
- 1G/2.5G network appliances expandable to 10G.

What I need:
- a fast iSCSI/NFS volume - a reliable device that will allow running virtual machines (preferably it should support NVME disks)
- a large iSCSI/NFS volume - data storage.
- network ports min. 2x 2.5Gbps

I don't care about any additional functionality beyond network resources.

Thank you in advance and best regards to your team.

We have NAS TS-431P device with 2 HDD (WD Red 2 TB). We want to expand the capacity by adding two more HDDs of 8TB each.
What is the recommended way to install the additional two HDDs.
Thank you.

  UGREEN NASync Series
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-01-2024, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello NAS Compares,

What do you guys think about UGREEN releasing a new NAS? And what are your thoughts on them releasing on Kickstarter? Storaxa Kickstarter causing some problems for 5K users. Do you think it is a good idea for UGREEN to release on Kickstarter?

https://nas.ugreen.com/pages/ugreen-nas-storage-preheat

Do you feel like UGREEN is an established company that will honor its prices and stand behind its new line of NAS devices? And something that will be delivered to the masses?
