I am wanting a good NAS to be able to run game servers inside docker containers. I also want to use Unraid just for the ease of use. This device won't be backing up any data. So something that has more than 2 or 4 cores would be great! Thanks!

Hi,
A bit of background, we have had a few break-ins on the estate of late which made me want a IP camera NVR type solution but held off thinking a NAS might serve me a bit better with more rounded functionality. The misses is changing jobs at Christmas and has a tonne of data she needs to keep from her previous job all on OneDrive, this put me back to the NAS. I have watched loads of your YouTube vids and was tempted by the DVA 1622 for the CCTV chops but was put off by the lack of scalability, also love the idea of a TS 264-8G but again soldered RAM holding it back... Which lead me to the DS723+ seems the best compromise but does the lack of integrated graphics hinder the surveillance station app?
As an aside I would like to be able to stream media music and video both to LAN and WAN, host a website that runs MSsql in a docker container and if it could help with the dishes that would be a cherry on top!
Thanks for any help
Dave
P.S. love your channel

Advice for new DIY NAS for home use |

I do photography as hobby and have few external HDDs and SSDs filled up with totaling to about 8TB of data. Hence looking for a long term option with NAS with double the storage (16TB) to begin with. This would be only for home usage and I do not have plans for any photography business.
I'm a fairly technical person with software development background. Building a NAS solution would be a fun project for me. Hence looking for some advice to build a DIY NAS..
Mainly looking for suggestion for minimum 4Bay enclosure. With additional option SSD, 8GB RAM. Would like to have an HDMI output in motherboard so that can avoid extra GPU.
Budget is around $500 including RAM. Initially I'm thinking to start with two 16-20 TB HDD from Seagate or WD.. And would expand in future as per need.
Looking forward to some advice to start on the components listing. Thank you!

Hello,
I am planning to buy a NAS but I have no idea at all, even if I have been watching your videos and reading about it for the last month.
I am a photographer and videographer and I would like to have redundancy with my storage and have the opportunity to share the photos and videos with my clients directly from the NAS in a secure way, so they can download them. I am thinking of sharing the NAS with some friends who will have X amount of storage to use as a cloud while I don't need it as well.
The thing is, that as I have no clue about the software of a NAS or how to correctly and securely configure what I need, what brand would you recommend me to purchase?
I don't think I need a 10Gbps NAS, it would be good, but I have no problem editing from my computers SSD and backing everything up in the NAS.
Sorry but English is not my first language, I really hope I explained what I am looking for.
Thank you beforehand,
Ales.

NAS Recommendation to buy for |

Hi, I would like to ask your recommendation in buying NAS.
I’m completely new with NAS storage system and doesn’t have any experience in IT fields, so I can say I’m completely blind with all these things
I currently use Google Drive to store my work-related files.
Now I’m considering to buy NAS to replace it.
Primarily, I would like to use NAS to:
1. Store my work related things so I can access it anywhere, event without the need to bring my laptop.
2. Allow my team to access work related files anywhere through a shared link (without the need to create account for them), just like a simple link sharing in google drive.
3. Backing up photos & videos from my phone so I can have more capacity in my phone.
4. Storing & securing my client’s personal data from breach, but I still can access them when I need to.
I’ve done some research, but still can’t figure out which NAS suitable for me, especially considering whether I can manage the OS or not (which also a variable to come for my decision).
At first, I consider BeeStation, but it only has 1-bay which is not safe for my files if something happens to it. Then, I’m considering a 2-Bay NAS from Synology or QNAP or TerraMaster.
Please give me a recommendation on which brand/type of NAS that might be suitable for me and why?
And also from those 3 brands, which OS is the easiest one to use, but still offer good capabilities & function? I’m also open to any other brand & type suggestion.

NAS for home user with web access |

Hello there,
I am a researcher working at the University of Bath and am looking for a NAS primarily installed at home for local files within my home network. However, I do require access to my home files at work (ie at the university), but due to limitations in the university internet access restrictions - direct connection acesss to private networks is not allowed, so therefore, I can only access files through internet. This worked fine as I was using WD MyCloud NAS, however, recently WD MyCloud had uptime issues as a result of ransomware/malware and also the disk was approaching its lifespan, I started looking round to a proper NAS replacement.
Given the requirements of file access above (at work I will require access to files via the internet, and so will require external access to the NAS at home), I was looking at the UGreen NAS Flash solution as the WD MyCloud is still working but do not urgent need an update. Was toying with going with Synology.
Thank you.
Regards,
Gerad

Non Chinese options. |

I will be using "TrueNAS Scale" so factory OS doesn't matter.
I'm considering the "Terramaster F6-424 Max".
I vastly preferred their "T" series form factor but found the "T6-423" specs lacking and the "T9-500 Pro" too expensive. So, I think I'm defaulting to buying the "F6-424 Max" right now.
That being said, is there anything from a non-Chinese company (Taiwanese is fine) with similar specs and price point?

Greetings: I have a F4-423 Terramaster that currently has one 8TB HD installed. I have the NAS TOS setup and have installed Plex. All of my Plex Media is on this one drive. I have three more 8TB HDs that I would like add to my existing NAS and eventually have all four configured in a RAID. My question is I don't know how to add the three HDs and create the backup without erasing the existing 8 TB HD that contains all of my Plex Media. I would be willing to pay for a Zoom session, I just want to have a backup solution for my media using the additional HDs without unintentionally erasing my Media in the process. I have watched many of your videos, but I am not confident I know what I am doing and if it is correct. Any assistance on the steps for doing this would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Charles
