| Expanding memory? |

Hello, I am using a QNAP NAS ts-421. I installed 3 4TB disks on it (RAID5). My system says my memory is almost full. If I put an extra 4TB disk in, will that solve my problem?
One other question: how to I delete files on the QNAP? Do I just delete them from the and hopefully that will solve my memory problem?
Kind regards,
Deborah

Hello!
First, kudos for your site and the depth of knowledge you share, it's greatly appreciated.
I'm a beginner looking into nas and though it's hard to follow you at times, your work is incredibly comprehensive.
I am a mac user but comfortable on pc and would like to have a central place to access my image files as well as have storage for music, documents and some video.
Though I'm all for plug n play, I like to customize my setups so I was leaning towards Qnap.
1.) I am a photographer and have about 4tb of images I'd like to back up/rotate on an ongoing basis. These could be backup catalog files or low res image proxies that I can pull/send to clients. Also there will be photoshop work and occasional short video work to be done.
2.) I'm just beginning to study programming and would like to be able to have vm capabilities.
3.) One son - music and some videos on a central server would be useful for my family.
4.) Another son - 10-50gb files for 3D modeling projects for school. Storage and access only.
Beyond that, I'm open.
I was looking at one of the Qnap 3 drive series, primarily because I can almost afford it.
And with the pandemic, it might be awhile...
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks again!
Steve

Hi. Thanks for your site and videos. I have recently moved my 4tb wd red HDD from ds412+ to rs1219+. A check today on the synology site shows 4tb red HDD are no longer listed as compatible. They were on the compatible list yesterday I’m sure! My question is which models/serial numbers were compatible? Has WD published when they changed from CMR to SMR on hdd so we can check what we have?
Regards

I have a friend with a small Tax business that is wanting to use a NAS to store her information on, as well as have another backup of her data. She will possibly add another person to her business (which will make 2 people total) and was wanting a NAS for a file server and backup solution. Does this sound like the best option for her and what would you recommend? I have some experience with QNAP NASes.
Thanks you so much for your help,
Craig

Hello, I'm wondering if its possible (and how) to take my current RAID5 (3TB *10) and reconfigure it to run 10TB*8 with 2 hot spares. (Asustor 6210t) My current capacity utilization is at about 56%. I have the (8) 10TB Ironwolf NAS drives that I want to use and have only inserted one and started the rebuilding process. Is there any way to reconfigure this array without having to off load my data?

| Using a Drobo as backup for Synology? |

Hello,
I recently migrated from a Drobo 5N to a Synology ds918+. I was hoping to re-purpose the drobo into a purely back-up solution for the synology but I cannot find a solution out there. Has no one done this? Is it impossible?
Thank you,
-j
