  Synology NAS Shutdown?
Posted by: Avon1330 - 08-26-2020, 06:02 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi - I have my DS220+ on a Power Schedule from 22:00 until 06:00. This means that every day I have to 'connect to server' manually. - or is there a way around this?

Is the alternative is to go into hibernation mode instead?

Thanks

Peter

Which NAS for a church for video recording, editing, and file sharing?
Posted by: Gene - 08-24-2020, 08:46 PM - Forum: Video/Photo Editing - Replies (2)

I want to move our church from Windows Server 2012 to a NAS. We have less than 1 TB of private and shared office files being backed up to a 3 TB external HDD. We also have a Mac (not connected to the server) for recording our services and for video editing. There are 7 HDDs connected to it with 36 TB of video files. There is a 14 TB HDD connected to it to which I have backed up most of the Final Cut Pro 10 libraries as a stopgap measure. I also subscribed to Backblaze to back up this Mac online. Every Sunday we record our services and live stream them through the Mac. The recordings are saved to the external HDDs until they are edited and published. We need a connection that is fast for the recording and passing of the files to the live stream box, and then need all this data stored and backed up. We also need file sharing, and the ability to connect from any computer, tablet or phone, from anywhere. What Synology NAS do you recommend, how much storage, and RAID 5, 6, or SHR? Thanks.

QNAP Desktop Models Ryzen being dropped?
Posted by: casw1000 - 08-21-2020, 09:11 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

This question is really directed to Rob and others in the know. But a number of us who have been waiting on a Ryzen desktop refresh appear to have been dropped off the radar. I was planning to purchase the 12 or 16 bay Ryzen desktop, but didn't want to buy 2 year old cpu's when much newer versions were readily available. Now it is confirmed that Qnap has no plans to update the Ryzen desktop systems. This is sad beyond belief as the ryzen models were a great balance of cpu, ram etc. I wish this could have been push during the recent Q&A that Rob did with Qnap. So whats my question? Where does this leave those that wanted a great cpu based system, but dont want to purchase rack options. The latest QuTS Xeon's are lets face it, not inspiring. Oh well, very sad times.

Which disk sizes for Serveillance on DS420+ ?
Posted by: Indy - 08-12-2020, 09:56 AM - Forum: Surveillance - Replies (1)

I'm planning to add 2-3 cameras to my DS420+ which has no disks yet. Ideally HD quality 24/7 recording with 14 day retention. Can someone advise on the size of each disk, I also have 3TB of other data to backup to the NAS. Looking to go SHR or RAID5, thanks

Help and advice with Upgrade for Storage Expansion set up?
Posted by: minalo1 - 08-10-2020, 08:04 AM - Forum: NAS upgrades - Replies (1)

The Problem: - I did what I could only do and installed my 4 x 10TB existing Sata drives into the new TVS 682, it appears I cannot use static volume with the new Qtier SSD drives function (Qsync over our network to 5 Computers?) – presently able to carry out our normal nightly back up of each computer drive (Documents and its Qsync folder)
I suppose I am looking for a heads up before I have to click the rebuild button? Is this right or is there another option? Looked till I am now confused – (I’ll say it first - yes I am easily confused)
BTW - Purchased TL D800S via SPAN – TVS 682 via Box

  Ds720+ ram upgrade?
Posted by: robert - 08-10-2020, 06:50 AM - Forum: NAS upgrades - Replies (1)

Bought one 16GB CT16G4SFD8266 but unfortunately did not work for the DS720+ (blue light is flushing and is not booting up). Do you know what ram module is compatible with the 720+ and what is preferable size 8GB or 16GB. Thanks.

  Qnap ts451+?
Posted by: hoopsdavis - 08-04-2020, 07:52 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Would you consider the qnap ts451+ too old to purchase. Mostly will be used to hold movies to stream over my home network. Not using the HDMI direct connect port.

Raid 5 will be my option with 4 10Tb drives

Which is best for my situation?
Posted by: hoopsdavis - 08-04-2020, 07:52 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm looking at the qnap ts-451+ and the Asustor AS6404T. I'll be using the NAS to hold movies to stream throughout my home via LAN. I have no need to use the HDMI port, I already have media players (Nvidia Shield and Mibox Android TV boxes) so the Nas will just be a storage and access point. Files are also backed up in the cloud.
Which of the 2 Nas devices would you recommend based on your expert knowledge?

Thanks In Advance

PLEX on qnapTVS-672N-i3 or do I need it?
Posted by: Jorgerik - 08-04-2020, 02:42 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi
First thx for a intressing website and Youtube channel. I have today since a couple of years a WD pr2100 wich has served me well. I use it mostly for Plex and some minor backups. I also have some friends who uses my Plex server. I think of upgrading to get more bays and a more powerful NAS. I have consider synology 918+ or 920+ or maybe a terramaster. But recently I also have been looking at the qnap 672N-i3. Regarding on more Plex users is the qnap a better choice? Mainly the material is 1080 p. Is it more futureproof regarding some 4K with the qnqp ? Is there another better NAS option ? I have ofcourse Plexpass with transcoding today on my wd pr2100. I dont mind spending some money on a new NAS.
