Is anyone actually getting 4K 60hz with their TS-x53D?
Posted by: mrwishes - 03-25-2021, 02:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have 2 different 4K TVs (2018 Samsung QN65Q6FN and ~2015 LG 55UF6450 using Ultra Deep Color on HDMI1) , and no luck getting 4K 60hz with my TS-453D. With a laptop I have no such issues, using the same cables, with soundbar or without. With the Samsung I do get 1920x1080@120hz though which surprised me.

  Compatibility?
Posted by: ed - 03-22-2021, 04:09 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Yes, you should be able to connect both at the same time- USB and SATA expansion. The limits are set based on USB ports and maximum hard drive count in a RAID. This CPU is not made to cope with too big RAIDs.I hope this helps.Model NameForm FactorInterfaceMaximum Connected NumberNoteTL-D1600STowerSATA 6Gb/s (SFF-8088)1TL-D400STowerSATA 6Gb/s (SFF-8088)1TL-D800CTowerUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C)1TL-D800STowerSATA 6Gb/s (SFF-8088)1TL-R1200C-RPRackmountUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C)1TL-R1200S-RPRackmountSATA 6Gb/s (SFF-8088)1TL-R400SRackmountSATA 6Gb/s (SFF-8088)1TR-002TowerUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C)2TR-004TowerUSB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-C)2TR-004URackmountUSB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-C)2

QNAP TS-873A (64GBRAM): QuTS: SSD system pool / SSD cache?
Posted by: steinradler - 03-20-2021, 08:32 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

What is more sufficient? SSD cache or SSD system pool? If I´m right when I do install first a RAID 1 with two M2 SDD this will be the system pool. Every NAS App will be installed on this device. If I just insert RAID 5 HDD this will be the system pool. How is to calculate the size of this M.2 SSD. Would be nice if VM´s, Containers would run as well on SSD system pool. For a SSD cache in Read only a older SSD SATA drive should work as well? Thx

QNAP TS-873A (64GBRAM): QuTS: benefitts of PCIe GPU?
Posted by: steinradler - 03-20-2021, 08:32 PM - Forum: Virtual Machines/ Docker - Replies (2)

What are the advantages of GPU expansion? In conjunction with virtualization and containers what exactly does it bring and is it worth it?
Is only the graphics performance passed on to the VM's or is the computing power also supported? Or what other benefits does it bring? Thanks

QNAP ts230 vs Synology 218 vs Synology 220+?
Posted by: chimper - 03-18-2021, 07:23 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am a first time NAS buyer for my home use. I am looking mainly for storage for my music collection & photos. Also to access my storage remotely. I also want to remove some of the strain from my laptop. I have ordered the qnap ts-230 & am waiting delivery. I am now rethinking that maybe I should have purchased the synology 218 or doubled up the price & purchased the synology 220+ ? I realize the 220+ has a faster intel processor & can expand the ram. What benefits will the 220+ provide to me? I will not need anything more than 2 bay.
What would you recommend that I look at purchasing?

A replacement for Windows Home Server; AcerH340 EasyStore?
Posted by: calvindcd - 03-10-2021, 08:38 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

So, I have a dead Acer H340 that had Win Home Server. I loved the software and it was as simple or complex as you wanted to make it.
I was wanting to have a NAS that worked much like WHS.
Here is what I would like it to do in order of priority.
*Back up Windows 10 computer (Images as well as file History). I have had instances of computers crashing and losing Data. I just don't have time to reload programs and reset up.
I have AutoCad and Revit for drafting which are huge files.
*I would like backups to happen in the background in the evening so I don't slow computer during office hrs.
*Cloud access would be preferred but not necessary.
*Plex would be nice to stream movies I have on the hardrive of my Acer H340 TS video files
*iTunes server is a nice to not a have to.
I want a unit that can use low power when idle.
I am open to a Windows 10 computer that I can just use and install 4 HardDrives and then use storage pools from windows but that may not be the most efficient use of a computer/energy use.
Are there any suggestions that you can provide me with?

4k Plex server PC or NAS?
Posted by: plex4kuser - 03-10-2021, 06:32 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I am getting ready to build a 4k Plex server. I want a mostly prebuilt solution that I can add drives to and be off an running. I do like the idea of SHR or Drobo's beyond raid to add storage down the road. What are your suggestions for building a long term 4k Plex server?

Which provider has the best phone sync app?
Posted by: mappo - 03-09-2021, 10:23 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I'm ready to move from Enthusiast to Customer.
No more juggling Docker containers and gluing with scripts.

For me the killer feature is automatic backup of photos from 5 Android phones.
I've tried Owncloud, Nextcloud and Syncthing but never really felt relaxed.
For a while the Plex phone app looked promising until is was revealed that
the app had to be active for the sync to run.

Here's my workflow: When a phone takes a picture or shoots a video, it should automatically be sent to the NAS.
Shortly after, the other phones connected to the same NAS, can see the new photo/video - either in their own app or in a web gui.

I don't need my NAS for surveillance, transcoding, torrenting.

Which provider has the best phone app (Exclusively Android).

Very much appreciated!

  Upgrading from DS220j to DS720+?
Posted by: finkelstein2004 - 03-01-2021, 11:34 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Folks. Currently I have a Synology DS220j for my Plex Media Server, however, recently, I noticed that its lagging while playing videos. I've concluded based on research that it's having trouble transcoding. Is this correct and if so, should I upgrade to the DS220+ or as a future proof solution, upgrade to the DS720+. What are your thoughts on this since video is going in the direction of 4K?
