Purchase First NAS |

Hello
I Looking to purchase my first NAS system mainly for Photography, storing and browsing RAW & Process Jpeg files.
I have a MacBook Pro M1 1TB o and store everything on Icoud in just one year the iCloud has taken up over half my available storage space.
I am exploring Synology DS420j 4 Bay Desktop NAS and initially populating it with 2 x Seagate IronWolf Pro 4TB NAS Hard Drive 3.5" 7200RPM 256MB Cache. With the intent of being able to save up for 2 larger drives at a later stage.
I have seen on your videos that NAS drives are often loud.
I have recently purchased TP-Link TL-PA7027P KIT AV1000 2-Port Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit, Data Transfer Speed Up to 1000 Mbps, I ahve one plugged into my router and the other in the upstairs office (box room) would the NAS be best placed up in office connected via LAN cable to the Passthrough Powerline ?
Would this set up future proof me for quite a while?
Thanks in advance
Alex

I have 40tb of data on my synology on 5x16tb exos shr. I bought the f5-422 to do backup of it in traid. What is the best way to connect them so a backup doesn't take forever? Are terramaster getting near weekly updates like synology? Any thoughts on adding an 8gb sodimm to the terramaster?

Exos X20 and DS1621xs+ |

Hi
On the compatibilty list of the DS1621xs+, I can only find the EXOS X16 16TB.
Do you think the Exos X20 18TB would work just fine and would you recommend buying this type of drive (very good $/TB ratio at the moment)?
I could live with a warning (you mentioned this could happen).
Thanks!
Daniel

I have a QNAP TS420 it got hit with the deadbolt malware this year. If I have another QNAP nas as a backup directly connected to the TS420 via USB or Ethernet and the TS 420 gets another attack can the malware also infect the backup NAS that is connected to the TS420 ?
Love your NAS videos on You Tube keep up the good work

Hi,
I had an old NAS that I could download torrents to and stream from using FTP. I am looking for a new NAS I can log into from outside my home network and open torrent files. I would also like to be able to stream to TVs and ipads from home and away. What would you recommend?

Plex build |

I am buying my first NAS specifically with plex in mind. Currently I just have 20t stuffed into my PC (there has to be a better way lol) a simple 4 bay NAS "should" work just fine. I have watched a ton of the channels videos and still have not settled on 1 brand/model. I have built several of my PC's so I have what I would consider a basic knowledge of computing. That being said I was considering the Synology DS920+ however my fear is that it is an older device and if I want to get more than a few years out of the system it may be outdated. I have watched the channels comparison of the 920 and 923 but I still didn't come to a solid conclusion. This brings me to the big question if YOU had to choose a NAS under $800.us given all I have said what would you choose?
P.S. Love the channel, the knowledge, British humor and support you guys are doing.

Mac connecting to DS1522+ via IPv6 |

Hello NAS Compares form!
I have noticed in “Resource Monitor” in the Connections section that our home Mac desktop is connecting to the NAS using IPv6.
Is this a security concern? Does that mean that all the data going to and from my Mac to the NAS are also going through the Internet via IPv6? Our home network does not assign IPv6 addresses.
I am using an Automounter program to mount the SMB share automatically. I wonder if that’s the culprit?
Thanks for any feedback.
Best regards,
Mark

Regular consumer of your videos and just watched re 923+. Slowly moving to 10Gb network on all Unifi kit. Installed E10G21-F2 some time back. Now wonder if I can/should upgrade further: RAM from 4 to 32; does space permit E10M20-T1 PCIe Card or alternative cache. Waiting/hoping for newer/better model which incorporates these add-ons and would then use existing 1618+ for cameras and multiple computer back up only. Thanks again for all the good work.

DX517 now or wait for update? |

Hello,
I have a DS920+ that is filling up and I want to get more bays. So my choices are either get a 6 or 8 bay, add the DX517 expansion, or wait for a future expansion. I was thinking since the DX517 is so old should I just wait? Is there any possibility this would be updated or should I just go ahead and buy it? Doing the DX517 would be the cheapest way to expand for now. Thanks so much for your advice!
