Hi, I have a DS920+ as my main, I need to back it up, I am considering a 220J at another location. Is it a good d choice, or do I need a BTRFS unit? Also, should I use a RAID 1 or no RAID in the 2bay NAS, Thanks!! you guys are great!

  Files Synchronization
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-08-2023, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
I recently acquired a Synology DS923+ NAS and I am struggling a little bit with Synology Drive and files synchronization.
I have 3 laptops (2 personal and 1 professional) and would like to keep the same one folder containing all my critical perso/pro data synchronized on all of them and backed up on the NAS.
Basically I would like to be able to make a change anywhere in this 1 folder on any one of my 3 laptops and be sure that this change will be saved on the NAS and replicated on the 2 other laptops.
I am not sure how to achieve this with Synology Drive and have not found any detailed enough "synchronization for dummies" video. Could you please make one or point me to an existing one if I missed it?
I am sure I am not the only non-IT person struggling with synchronization (I am a lawyer) and this should be a topic of interest for others.
Many thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Guillaume

  Home NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-07-2023, 11:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello. I would like some advice about NAS.
I want to use it at home mainly for Photo and Video Backup. I also have a lot of movies in digital format. Now I don't want to break the bank but I want a server that is quiet, secure, fast and remotely accessible. I would start with 8 TB and expand it in the future. I have seen WD, Synology and Qnap are the leading Brands but I cannot decide which is better.
Thanks for your help!!

  NAS upgrade for Plex
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-07-2023, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am looking to consolidate my existing Plex servers onto one NAS. I currently have a WD PR2100 which hosts my main Plex server with my 2015 imac supporting. Along with this I have another plex server running on an Nvidia Shield TV Pro, this typically is used for 4k media saved on a usb drive plugged direct into the shield. In terms of client devices I will mainly be using an Apple TV 4k but also have the ability to use other devices such as the shield. My goal is to have a 4 bay NAS that will be powerful enough to stream 4k, HEVC265, ideally transcoding should not be needed locally but need the ability to have this covered. Finally it needs to be able to stream remotely at 1080p.

I have been looking at Synology DS920+ and QNAP (many devices) but cannot work out what unit would be best, I am open to all suggestions. Budget is not fixed in stone as it is more important to get the right solution.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Regards

Jon

Best NAS for home use for media server
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-07-2023, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Would like the ability to increase storage over time as in it for long term. There could be up to 3 people streaming media at the same on and off the network. Have used Plex but not got Plex pass so interested in first party options built into the NAS. Videos are 1080 at most. Nothing 4k at the moment. Will be using it with 24 inch M1 iMac.

I am looking for near replacement for OneDrive from your videos I learn that Synology will give me the best in that, but the price for Terramaster is much lower.
I am looking at the Terramaster F2-221 and Synology DS220+, the price difference is big, so I wonder if the terramaster software is good enough.
I mainly need it to backup photos from the smartphones and use in similar way as gdrive or one drive in windows.

Thank you.

NAS Build for over 300+ concurrent stream
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-07-2023, 05:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Dear NASCompares Team,

We are Running a Music Course Business, (about 700+ students). Due to this Covid-19 Pandemic situation,we are forced to only provide online course because offline course for more than 5 persons is still prohibited by government. we are thinking to shift our business ASAP from offline based to online based.

We have question:  If we have around 1500+ our self created learning videos (FHD & 4K videos 30-50gb files each), and we want our students to be able to stream our learning videos remotely anywhere (could be 100-300 students access it at the same time), at 720p/1080p which kind of NAS is suitable for our needs? Could you please help us choose the parts(CPU,Motherboard, Case, etc) if we need to build our own NAS/Server? Also which apps should we use best for our needs? Is PLEX sufficient? And is it possible to make video to be available for stream only (not download possible)

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you so much in advance, and have a good day!

  USB→2.5GBe adaptor
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-06-2023, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I wonder if you can advise why when looking at your screenshots - https://nascompares.com/answer/synology-compatible-usb-2-5gbit-ethernet-adapter/ - my exact same 'Plugable' device is not seen? I've tried it in both the front and rear USB ports, but nothing. The device does work, as I've put it into a USB slot in the PC and a Laptop and it does connect. I'm hoping that you can tell me what I'm doing wrong before I return it. btw, my 920+ is on DSM 7.1, whereas this screenshot shows DSM 6.2
Many thanks
David

  Choosing UPS for Synology DS1522+
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-06-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
I am planning on buying a UPS for a Synology DS1522+. I would be using it only for the NAS so that in case of a power outage it could shut down safely.
I was checking Synology's UPS compatibility list, but there are so many options that I'm a bit confused.
Looking at my local electronics store, I found APC BE650G2-CP, which seems suitable for me regarding the wattage, price range, and availability of a data port to connect it to my NAS with an RJ45 - USB cable to set up a secure shutdown.
However, I would like to double-check whether this really could be the right pick for me, or maybe there are even better options. For example, maybe there's a similar one just with less than 8 power outputs?
Thanks in advance.
Emilija
