Replacement NAS |

My DS1513+ still makes an excellent secure file server/back up solution but the processor get stuck at 99% when uploading photos etc. (not sure about Synology photos cf photo station).
I'm looking for a second NAS that will allow faster photo face recognition etc & the following: 2 VM's, Docker, Fast access for film editing/recording. (I plan to back up to my DS1513*).
I have a CAT7 network throughout the house.
I'm reasonable IT literate, comfortable with linux/unix command line and a Mac user.

Is the Synology 923+ the right one for me based on the issues I have? |

• I have a Synology 415play, with 4 4TB drives.
• Main purpose: saving currently 2TB of family photos and videos. Most of the time it is turned off and whenever I need to upload new photos / videos, I turn it on and let the iOS Synology Photos app upload everything.
• 1GB internet connection
• Current problem: the speed even with a direct NAS to PC cable connection is quite slow (need to separate files into more folders), CPU often runs at 100% during indexing (+takes days sometimes) and memory (RAM) runs out occasionally. Also loading photos from e.g. 5 years ago, will not work through Synology Photos app on my iOS phone.
Questions:
• Is the 923+ with SSDs the right solution for me given the increased CPU speed compared to the 920?
• Would this solve my listed issues (windows explorer speed when browsing files, photos not loading in the photos app through the internet, super slow indexing)?

NAS Upgrade - Multimedia Support (Emby) |

Hi, I'd like your advice on upgrading from a DS 713+ to ideally another Synology product. My main concern is playback performance from within my network and externally to clients using Emby (firesticks, apple tv's, mobile phones etc.). My current 713+ does not support hardware transcoding and the CPU is maxing out when playing / accessing / editing media files even within my network. I updated the RAM to its max but that has had little effect on performance (probably expected). I would love your take on the best product to go with given my main concern. I have been looking at the 720+ for the transcoding abilities and boost in performance. I have not considered a potential boost in using a network switch with my 1GB service nor the upgrade to using M.2 drives, and I'm not sure if either of these would bring about greater performance for transcoding / playback quality? I appreciate any advice and guidance and thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Best, Matt

5G SIM card routers |

Hello, I have been looking for some time for a suitable 5G router for a start up e-commerce business. I am unsure of which is the best or robust router to go for. I have looked at the usual devices from OPPO, Zyxel, Huawei etc. I am asking if there are other devices, that would be more suitable. Also bear in mind, that I currently live in an HMO environment, so security is key. The area I live in has suitable 5G coverage. And complete 4G coverage. Also, this is a stand alone device, not looking for a travel device. Looking forward to your advice.

Hi,
Have heard mention of Bonding the 2 ethernet Ports on NAS together, what is this (in very very simple terms please) and any benefit and if so under what circumstances (e.g. 2 or 3 PC's connecting via internet to view via Plex or DS Video) or only of use if using a switch.

NAS for file server |

I am looking for a reasonably priced NAS that will be used as a file server/storage device. Maybe a handful of machine images as well, but mainly file server type use for our church.
I recently installed a QNAP TS-451D2-4G 4 Bay
I've always used QNAP stuff, so is this the best use of our money for this situation?
Thanks,
Craig

QNAP NAS TS-464-4G RAM upgrade |

- Want to upgrade RAM on QNAP NAS TS-464-4G, just bought.
- QNAS info on compatible RAM type is cryptically "SODIMM DDR4". That's it!
- An Amazon user question response: buy DDR4 2666Mhz CL19 PC4-21000 260-Pin SODIMM RAM.
My question to ensure the RAM is compatible:
- how specific do I have to be in choosing RAM type given the above 2 vastly different RAM descriptions
- does it matter if it says "for laptop" or "for Synology NAS", or doesn't specify that it's for a NAS? THANKS!
