NAS for Stock Footage Library

#1
Hi. I'm looking to consolidate my stock footage library and make proxies available for download by clients on a server. Currently I have external drives and use dropbox for sharing files.

I have approximately 20TB of footage currently but this will expand by 5-10TB per year. Footage is shot on Red cameras in Raw format at 6-8K resolution. I edit using Davinci.

I'm looking at Synology and Qnas. I am not particularly tech savvy when it comes to networks and there is very little local support so something relatively simple to setup would be great. I can install things like RAM and other components.

Thanks for any advice!

When it comes to video editing, having a high-performance storage solution is critical to ensure smooth workflow and quick access to your files. That's why a 10GbE compatible NAS model is essential for your needs. One option that you might consider is the DS923+ with a Ryzen CPU and NVMe pools for storage. While the 10GbE card needs to be purchased separately, the DS923+ has 4 drive bays and can support up to 32GB of RAM, which makes it a powerful option for your current storage needs. Additionally, the DS923+ can be configured to use NVMe SSDs for even faster read and write speeds, which will be particularly useful when working with large 6-8K resolution video files.

Another option to consider is the DS1823xs+, which has a Ryzen CPU that can handle multiple 4-8K editors and has 10GbE built-in. While it doesn't have SHR drive mixing options, it's still a very capable option for video editing and file storage. With built-in 10GbE support, the DS1823xs+ will ensure fast transfer speeds and minimize latency when accessing your files. Overall, whether you choose the DS923+ or the DS1823xs+, both models offer powerful hardware and advanced features that are essential for video editing and file storage, making them a great investment for your needs.
