All of the tutorials and YouTube videos I have watched only talk about creating a new time machine back up on a NAS. Can I transfer an existing time machine back up on an external USB drive into a time machine back up on my new Synology 423+ NAS? Thanks so much for all of your help. Because of NASCompares I bought a Synology NAS.

Long time PC user, planning a switch to Mac. Haven't been gaming for years and primary use is photo editing (some video editing), and home use. Mac with M2 is better for that. Currently have a high-end PC with 4TB NVME for active projects and a mirrored 10TB SATA set for fault-tolerant internal storage.
Planning Mac Studio with 4TB internal storage for active projects but want more high-speed storage for 'warm' projects and backup. Thinking 10G NAS or maybe Thunderbolt external.
Currently have an older 5-bay Synology NAS with gigabit and 5x6TB drives in Raid-5. Can keep that one for backups only and buy small high-speed NAS for active projects or just replace the NAS with a new high-speed NAS. Saw QNap has TB3 connectivity.
It seems like 10G or TB connections are overkill as SATA HDD won't really be able to use the speed. Not sure HDD would be sufficient to keep up with editing workloads.
How much difference does SSD cache make in this type of application? RAM?

Hi on your recommendation I purchased this a couple of years ago. Iv done a duplicate files removal on the file analizer and removed the duplicate files. However it hasn't increased the capacity of my hard drives and there are still duplicate photos and other file's. Have i gone wrong somewhere. Any advice would be welcome. QNAP warranty extension |

Recommending a topic to be discussed, no need to reply:
lack of possibility for waranty extension for users in certain countries: I wanted to buy warranty extension for a ts-464 that i purched from Germany with Hungarian address. I could not. After a week of waiting for a response from QNAP they notified me that it was not possible for hungarian buyers. This is a quite big issue, i guess, as I counted on buying it to ensure 5 years of operation.

Terramaster DAS Kit and Support |

Hi
I wonder if anyone else has raised the case of appalling Terramaster support issues. For example they advertise the 5 bay DAS as a professional solution for video editors but then you find it doesn't really work with a latest MacOS config (M2 Pro MacMini) - a common choice for video editors. OK you ask their tech support and they return the same line three times "follow the instructions" but it does not work. Theres nowhere to go. Like WD recently, they need calling out for such shoddy practices when advertising so-called pro kit. It leaves me with a question. Is there a Mac DAS software solution for RAID that you would actually trust and I could use to rescue my expensive bit of tin junk. i.e. a software DAS approach - would this be poorer than the Terramaster hardware DAS? I gotta do something to stop myself going mad. Send doctor immediately;-) many thanks, Clarke

Hi,
Just wonder if this Synology DS423+ must use Synology own disks. When I see on this page https://www.synology.com/en-global/compatibility?search_by=category&category=hdds_no_ssd_trim
I cannot see any other vendors like Seagate. Do you know if I still can use example this disk https://www.netonnet.no/art/data-og-nettbrett/nettverk/nas/seagate-ironwolf-st4000vn006/1025268.11010/?siteType=2
Thanks for advice

Moving to a QNAP TS-464? |

I currently have an Asustor AS5002 two bay NAS that's seems to be failing. Overall it's been ok, but I have never been able to get it to consistently do some basic functions like a share drive on my desktop computer or do computer back-ups. I'm looking to upgrade to a 4 bay NAS so I can store photos, music, 4K movies, do computer back -ups for PCs and MACs and use it as a media server. I've been leaning towards the QNAP TS-464 hoping it's able to do what my old NAS hasn't been able to do, but I'm not sure if I can take the drives from my AS5002 and put them into a QNAP.
Do I need to do anything special if I want to pull my disks from an Asustor NAS and put them in a QNAP NAS?

hello Im trying to decide what type of NAS to buy for my own personal use and maybe family use. I want to store pictures, music movies ect. and have the ability to access them from anywhere. I have looked at Synology and others but still am unsure of what I will need or what will be the best solution I have built my own computers in the past and have some working knowledge of the systems. I dont know whether it is better to build a NAS system out of old computers or buy new and ready to go system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank, Ken
