  Server Backup
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-17-2023, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Looking to back up 16TB off a server. Want it to be mirrored onto second drive while backing up. So looking at 40-44TB of hard drive space to be safe. Is Synology DiskStation DS224+ 2-Bay and 2 Seagate 20TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD. Is this sufficient? If not, what would you recommend?

  SSD Cache Update
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-16-2023, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Storage Manager is showing a healthy SSD Cache but "Not the latest version". The Info button gives more information: "This SSD Casche is created in a previous version. You can remove it and recreate a new one for better future support and performance."
I created the SSD before updating to DSM7.2, hence the message.
My question is, should I remove and recreate the cache? It seems strange that this was not handled in the OS update but I will do it if it is worth it. Have you made a video on the steps needed to do this, as I expect that I am not the only one with an SSD cache created before DSM 7.2

  TERRAMASTER F4-423 two M2 slots
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-16-2023, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I enjoy the videos that you are putting out. I am new to NAS. I bought the TERRAMASTER F4-423 on Amazon prime day with WD Red 16TB drives. I bought this memory to add
Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C4X9VR5

What are the best M2 drives do you recommend?
Should I fill both M2 slots?
Should the M2 drive have heatsinks on them?

I asked TerraMaster but they said to look at the compatibility list, but that list is very old and the models that say to buy are not even around anymore

Thanks
Robert

  M2 PCI3 SSD’s
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-15-2023, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Your videos are very entertaining (you hate seagulls) and knowledgable. I’ve ordered a Synology DS 923+ from Amazon. I’ve mentioned in an earlier post that I tried using your link before buying, but the webpage was jumping and flickering, so I couldn’t use it. If I decide to fill the NVME slots., which Ssd’s can I use. I’ve looked at the Samsung 970 Evo, 970 plus, 980, would these M2’s work? Can you suggest any others.
I know that I can only use them for caching if they are not Synology.

Video Files Name Structure for NAS/PLEX
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-15-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I live by the first rule of computers...Garbage In, Garbage Out. I'm just setting up my DS-1522+ NAS with 5 x 10 TB. 95% of my data are Video .mp4 or Photo .jpg files.
I'm currently revising the file name structure for folders and files. Example :
African Queen (1951){imdb-tt0043265}
You have spent a great deal of time on PLEX. There are other creators doing some video time on file structure, but you folks are the PLEX subject matter experts (although the others don't talk as fast). Ever consider doing a video on all our Garbage In? NAS Volumes, Drives, Folders, so that PLEX can read and process order and metadata for our collections. Not just movies but TV as well. Filebot.exe is an example but maybe you have more. Jellyfin and Emby would also be of interest to your audience. Thanks alot, you are top subscription in my list..Others I can watch one or twice, but I have to loop yours for a few days to absorb all the data you impart in just one video!

Hi i am interested in installing Eufy cams for security, on the Eufy website is an instruction video how to connect the S380 with 2 Eufy cam to a Synology, in my case an 1821+, nas. But in the synology compatible list is eufy not shown. And read some comments that is does not work.
The link from Eufy how to install: https://support.eufy.com/s/article/Using-NAS-Storage-Step-by-Step#:~:text=The%20RTSP%20feature%20on%20eufyCam,will%20need%20you%20to%20discover.

Do you have any experians in this?

  Windows VM On Synology NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-15-2023, 02:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
Looking at buying a DS1821+ and upgrading the ram to 2 x 8gb and running a vm windows 10 or 11. also allocating 2 cores and 8gb ram on a SSD volume.

Can the 1821+ run the windows 10 or 11 in a business style office with about 6 staff?

Was looking at the DS1823xs but awesome video explaining the upgrade path would currently suit us.

Luving your videos. Many thanks again, Justin

  NAS Drives
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-14-2023, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

Hard drives are cheaper in USA, if I buy some from there, are there any issues with using these in the UK?

I have a relative going to USA this week, so was wondering if it is OK to buy them and they can bring it back here. Not sure about how they will be being transported in a suitcase.

Thanks,
Shailesh

  Qumagie
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-14-2023, 08:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

How can I use Qumagie securely on QUTS HERO? Is Qnap Cloud Link safe to use for Qumagie?

I tried using WireGuard VPN but for some reason when I turn it on the HDDs click every 3 seconds. The clicking stopped every time I stopped that application.

I want to create user accounts and give access to drive space and Qumagie on my NAS to family, I just don't know how to do it securely without making it overwhelmingly for them.

Please Help,

Sam.
