  NAS for music producer
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 07:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Have users who uses a MAC and Windows PC. They need to backup / copy video and music from an external storage device to NAS and have both the MAC and Windows PC be able to access it and use it. Also be able to download music and video from MAC and Windows PC to the NAS device and have both MAC and PC be able to access and use the file. Was looking at the Synology DS620S but what do you recommend. Also, they will need to increase the storage size over time. The user currently has 2 Terabytes of music but is expected to double or triple that by the end of next year 2023.

Locking for nas with automatic synchronization on my phone, ( to synchronize all the files not only foto and video
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I am looking for a Nas with the possibility of automatic synchronization on my phone, I have Asustor now, but automatic synchronization is only with my pictures and video, not all documents on my phone. Is it possible to do it on Asustor Nas? or get another brand with your recommendation? thank you

  Synology NAS system
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am setting up an updated NAS system as part of a business handling large volumes of video data (Prores and Braw footage).

We are looking at a 6-bay Synology NAS (e.g. the DS1621+) with a dual 10GBe PCIe NIC and, in future, adding expansions. This will be connected to a multi-gig Switch, with a 10GBe enabled Mac mini via Cat6 to transfer data to the NAS.

My question is, would people within the office be able to access data on the NAS at 2.5GBe via Cat5e cables already in the walls? We want to avoid replacing the cabling, so would the multi-gig switch auto-negotiate from the 10GBe NAS expansion ports into the switch to allow a 2.5GBe connection out? If so, would this also be able to take advantage of the dual 10GBe ports for link aggregation with multiple connections or is this pointless?

  Looking at the QNAP TS-1232PXU-RP-4G
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am looking to switch to all rack mount, I want to look into PLEX. I currently have a WD 4-bay NAS in raid 5, and 2 USB 4-bay boxes in RAID 5. Is the TS-1232PXU-RP-4G a good buy? My friend is going to get the same setup at her house so we can mirror our DATA. Will this run PLEX? I have been watching your videos and this NAS uses an AnnapurnaLabs Alpine AL324 64-bit ARM® Cortex-A57 4-core 1.7GHz processor. Will that still stream PLEX?

  After my first Nas
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 07:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm after a suggestions for a Nas to run surveillance for approximately 4-8 cameras, run docker servers for a few games servers, and general back up of photos and files.
If possible may use for a media server if it has the capability.

Hi,

How do you setup a NAS Synology DS720+ NAS 16TB so I can use SSL on my local domain (https://mynas.local)

If I try generating a certificate it says its invalid, any help I would be very grateful.

Thankyou

  NAS Upgrade
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-27-2022, 01:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I currently have a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra with 8 TB of Hard drive storage. I use it mainly for Plex, back ups and some file storage. I like being able to remotely access it but with some of the recent ransomeware issues going on, I don't know which one to upgrade to. I've watched some of your videos but was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction. I'm also somewhat tech savvy so configuring a new device shouldn't be problematic. Thanks.

  Synology NAS HDD compability
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-26-2022, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi!

I'm about to purchase my first ever NAS and opting for Synology DS1520+ with two Seagate HDDs and one SSD (for Plex).

I'm kind of stuck on the issue of finding/buying a HDD that _exactly_ matches the Synology compability list. For example, let's say I want a Seagate Ironwolf Pro 8 TB drive. I go to the list...

https://www.synology.com/en-us/compatibility?search_by=products&model=DS1520%2B&category=hdds_no_ssd_trim&filter_brand=Seagate&filter_type=3.5%22%20SATA%20HDD&p=1&change_log_p=1

... and decides for the "Seagate IronWolf Pro ST8000NE001 - 2M7101 EN01".

There's no problem finding the model ST8000NE001, but what does the extra sequence 2M7101 mean?

On e.g. Amazon you can find the model ST8000NE001 but no further info/model#.

Any advice?

(Reason: would like to avoid DSM 7.x messages about drive not supported.)

  Migrate ds209 (SHR, ext4, 2x 4Tb) to ds920 (SHR, btrfs, no drives)
Posted by: Enquiries - 12-26-2022, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

The ds209 still works perfectly already for 13 years on DSM 4.2. Changed to 2x Western Digital Red WD40EFRX 4TB three years ago.
Now I want to migrate to ds920 AND also from ext4 file system to btrfs.
Do you advise to buy new drives for the ds920? Or can I swap the old drives without loss of data?
Thank you very much for your answer.
François
