Choosing a NAS |

I have had a QNap TS453a for years now and mostly have used it as a Plex server and file storage for photos etc.
Photos mean a lot to me and last year my Qnap was hacked and all of my files were encrypted.
I was increadibly fortunate to have most of my photos and home videos on an external harddrive.
Ever since I have thought about possible getting a new NAS, and maybe staying clear from QNAP.
The suject has now come up as I have recently bought a house and would like to buy a couple of security cameras and use surveilence station.
I accept that you may be very busy but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Fernando from London

Replacing a dead DS214Play |

I have a dead and discontinued DS214Play. What can I replace it with so that my disks still work and data is accessible? I've seen loads of videos about replacing failing drives in Synology, but what happens when the hardware fails, and Synology doesn't support it anymore?
If I get this one, the DS224+ can I put the drives from the DS214Play, and all is good?
I would appreciate your guidance.

NAS advice needed |

I need an advice on what NAS to get.
I have about 3TB of photos and videos stored in an external HDD.
I would like to move them to a NAS for redundancy, being the main use to be able to access my photos and videos on my phone such asI can do with Amazon Photos or Google Photos.
Also, I would like for other family member to have access and in the future I would like to have a digital photoframe where I could display the photos at home.

Gen3 NVME sufficient for AS5402T |

Hi--
I bought the AS5402T (Nimbustor) this summer as my first NAS and am ready to add my first NVME SSD in addition to the 2 SATA HDDs in the bays.
Is my logic correct that since the PCIe lanes are Gen3, I will get the full speed available by purchasing Gen3 SSD, i.e. I would get no benefit by buying Gen4?
Amazon has the Crucial P3 4TB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD available for $159 on Cyber Monday. There's no need for me to buy, say, Samsung 990 or 980, correct?

First NAS |

I have a 3TB HDD full of photos and videos and I have another 3TB drive as backup. You can probably guess the rest. My HDD failed and when I checked the backup HDD, it had also failed. I'm hoping:
1. I can retrieve the data from the failed HDD's
2. I want to ensure it doesn't happen to me again.
I've got all of my business files on Google Drive and would like to have a local copy. If I can have a system where I can ditch Google Drive, or just get by with their free plan, that would be a bonus. There's about 80GB of data on Google Drive and my business has been running for 3 years. Ideally, I want it to be pretty user-friendly. Right now, we have 7 devices with a mix of Mac and PC. Suggestions please?

Beginners Guide to 10GBE Upgrade |

You wrote in your guide that only the switch needs to be upgraded not the router. Don't you need the router also for local adress translation? And isn't all the home traffic run through the router? And wouldn't consequently keeping the old router create a bottleneck in the home lan?

i am looking for a recommendation on a nas for a small print shop. the editing station loads the print or cut file to the server than the respective station pulls the respective files. we have a network in place but need to upgrade the server system and a nas seemed like the best budget friendly option. the files are not individually that large (normally less than 1.5gb) but the boss wants longish term storage on the nas.
security and being able to assign differing levels of file access to each device is important. and the ability to monitor the server is also quite important
