  Video Editing Help!
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-18-2023, 02:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello
I just found your youtube videos and I feel like I need more help.
I got a video project for a feature film and the footage are 10TB.
I thought buying a NAS is a way to go but you are saying (your video is playing now!) that NAS is slower and not going to perform great on 4K (or higher) resolutions.
Since the final movie (1:30 hours) is going to be large and at least 4K (if not more), I'm not sure what to do.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,
Mo

I have not been on my synology for months and also I am new to it. I set up three other users when I first set everything up and I am able to log on, but I can't log on to my admin account. Is there a way to reset the password ?
I also was wondering if you teach courses on the synology or programs that run on it.

  m.2 SATA/PCIE SSD?
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Been a Mac user for over 10 years. Haven't replaced a hard drive since 2014. Purchased a Mini industrial computer equipped with Kaby Lake R i7 8550U Processor, 1.80 GHz(up to 4.0 GHz), 8 MB cache, 4 Cores 8 Threads, for personal, home use. Media, movies, music. Board allows for mSATA SSD Slot, 3.0 and 2.5 HDD or SSD 3.0 and a m.2 SATA/PCIE SSD. Was looking at the Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB NVMe M.2 and the SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2Woud either one of these be a good fit? One TB would probably be enough though.

  TL-D800C vs TL-D800S
Posted by: kanazky - 02-17-2023, 10:37 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have both a PCIE_x4 and USB 3.2 port available in my server.

Going to be using them in RAID 5 (windows).

I would be using 8 Iron Wolf NAS 7200 RPM drives. They claim a pretty stable speed of 180/mbps.

Is the extra money for the S going to be worth it in my case or is the USB-C 3.2 port not the bottle neck?

Thanks,
Jake

  First Time NAS Buyer
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I've watched several of your videos, and they were extremely helpful, but I'm still a little confused on a few points... First, we only have a 100up/100down (Mbps) network speed in our home, and I don't know how that might affect which kind of ethernet port I'd use on the back of these devices? Also, I am not sure how the RAM differs from the Nvme SSD, and what they offer? I was about to purchase 4x 16TB Ironwolf Pro Hard Drives, and was looking at the DS923+ or the DS1522+, but again, not sure about the RAM choices, vs the Nvme SSD option, and the ethernet speed as a factor... Does that make sense? Just want to make sure I am buying the correct configuration.

  QNAP TS-464
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

After watching your videos I have gone ahead an purchased a TS-464.

I am planning to use it as a plex media server.

I would stream to 2-3 mobile devices, 2-3 tvs and will utilise a HD home run Quad tv tuner .

Current streams mostly 1080p but would like to future proof to 4k if possible.

Which hardware upgrades would you suggest to maximise its plex media server ability?

  Quite HDDs
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I've been watching a few noise tests on the channel and it appears that there's a very significant difference in noise level between typical consumer HDDs and the datacenter grade models. Are there any high capacity (e.g. ~20TB) that are known to be on the quieter side compared to the others? Or are they all about the same in terms of dBA?

  Asustor AS5304T
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Having watched numerous videos and reviews I decided to upgrade my Netgear RN214 with a Asustor AS5304T with 4 x WD WD120EFBX Red Plus 12TB. All populated and data copied across, but, it wont shut up. It constantly chatters with drive activity! I contacted Asustor support and they took various reports and reported back "Hi Darren,

Our technicians have taken a look at your NAS health record and did find the issue and is tracking it now. They have indicated it is not a quick fix but they are working on it.
They will resolve it in the future ADM upagade.

Thank you
Best regards
Jeffrey Wong

My question is have you heard of others having the same issue?
My old Netgear used to go to sleep and sit quietly in the corner minding its own business but not this one. It is like an irritating 5 year old constantly chattering to itself. Even when you set the scheduling to sleep after 7pm it is still chattering away at 8pm.
Keep up the good work.
Darren

Seagate pro NAS vs Seagate enterprise NT NAS

https://nascompares.com/2022/09/08/new-version-of-seagate-ironwolf-pro-nas-drives-available/
You show results for read & write between NAS Pro & NAS NT models from 20TB down to 6TB. Do you have any results for read/write differences for 4TB storage for NAS Pro & NAS NT ? Thank you.

  HEVC
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-17-2023, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (4)

I have HEVC files from my IPhone – 1080p, 1080 X 1920 at 30 frames per second. I am thinking about the Synology DS923+ or DS1522+. I will be playing these HEVC files on my TV. Why can’t the Synology not play these HEVC files in the original format like my iPhone. Why the transcoding? There is no issue when they play h.264 files. Is this a licensing issue? I would gladly pay for a license to play these HEVC files in the original format.
Will there be an issue playing HEIF photo formats as well?
