  Qumagie / Tailscale
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-10-2024, 06:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello Ed and Robbie, I hope you are both well.

Have either of you ever used Qumagie and Tailscale successfully together to access Nas for outside the local network?

If so can you please help me?

I can not get Qumagie to connect to the server outside of my local network.

When I log in to Tailscale it says that my NAS and Phone are connected. I ever turned my Firewall off and tested again and it did not make a difference.

I think that I am putting in the wrong info on the Qumagie app. Best guess.

I am more than Happy to pay you for your help.

Please let me know.

Thank you,

Sam.

Can I test out the new NAS with a couple of old drives then remove them and start fresh when I can afford 4 larger drives? Just want to make sure the unit is OK before the return period closes and not cause any issues later.

Home NAS + Server for Docler
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-09-2024, 09:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

So I have hit the wall with analysis and had a brain melt.. I have a Synology NAS 4 bay LN59764 and have recently loaded a whole bunch of docker containers onto it circa 8 (most of the radarr family apps using docker) then plex, home photos etc... the little synology isn't happy as it is now several years old. I got very excited and bought a SST-RM42-502 4U Rackmount Case (not the right case but could buy a ali 4 drive case to support the drives... and then i got stuck. I've no idea what to get ... please help. What I do want is

- a server rack mount NAS/Home Server capable of a number of virtual devices
- by my estimate 64GB Ram at a minimum
- 4 drives of 10 TB each
- I would love to link it to my Ubiquity Switch SFP port and have a second network link as a backup.
-Space isn't really a concern - hight maybe
- power consumption not an issue. Having said that heat is always an issue but i can manage that to some extent.
- the £1200 is not inclusive of storage.

Switch that can support LACP (10gbe / 2.5gbe)
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-09-2024, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

On your recommendation I went for the R1 (thanks for the video) I also decided to splash out on Community Fibre's 3gb internet offer. As such I am looking for a switch can can connect to their router via 10gbe but also has some future proofing with 2.5gbe ethernet. Finally I wanted to use both 2.5g ports on the R1 and use LACP. There are lots of routers out there but their support for LACP is questionable. I've looked around (as well as on Aliexpress) and their switches (although advertise LACP are not).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

I have two QNAP 3 bay NA's which one is the main NAS (TS-351 2x500gb nvme and 3x2tb) and the other a backup TS-328 (3x2tb) Both raid 5. I have just decomissioned a Synology DS414 due to age with 2x2tb and 2x1gb running SHR. I was looking to perhaps get a little more space from looking at potentially upgrading my main nas to a 4 or 5 bay and changing the TS351 to backup (probably just a raid 0 although I don't like that idea as there is no failure tolerance). I do back up to several other sources too. So what I am looking for is a sensible file store option to I can move on the DS414 and the TS-328 but I don't need a media server as I have a mini pc for that and something I can re-use the NVME in and also add the 2x2tb to to up my space.
I am wary of synology now due to compatability of non synology drives but loved the SHR which meant I could fill it with spre disks as an extra backup before I got cloud storeage and local storage on other devices. what would you recommend I look at?

I have a Lenovo NAS EMC px6-300d. It's probably about 10 years old. Is it capable of running a Google drive Shared Cloud?

  Help!! Which NAS?
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-08-2024, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Firstly, I enjoy watching your videos. However, I am facing a dilemma. I use my 40TB wdPr4100 for my small business, file storage, and Plex. It's time to upgrade, but I am confused about what to get. Should I opt for QNAP's hardware or Synology's software? I am concerned about QNAP's security issues. I want a durable solution that won't require a major upgrade for at least 6 years. Also, I'm curious about your suggestions for hard drives. I typically go for WD red, but given their current issues, I'm not sure. Based on your builder, the models that caught my attention are the TS-462 and the DS1522+. Thank you for your help!

Which NAS Should i upgrade to? (clarification)
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-08-2024, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi i sent you amessage earlier where you mentioned 2 units in your response and i believe that i was misunderstood. I wanted more slots for extra hard drives. The DS920+ i have now have 4 slots and the 2 you mentioned also have 4 slots and was hoping for one with at least 5 to 8 slots for hard drives.
Additional detail: I was hoping to find one that does the media library/streming role the same or (preferably) better than the DS920+. Increase the performance, with GPU or it just being an improvement to begin with.
Thanks for the first answer btw!

  AD Domain Cotroller move
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-08-2024, 11:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello!
Is there any way to move domain controller from QNAP Nas to synology NAS?
Right now QNAP NAS is a domain controler. I need to make the SYNOLOGY NAS the domain controller for this domain, and unplug the QNAP NAS from the domain.
Every automatic/semiautomatic way of doing this is acceptible, even using windows server as the tool to achieve this. But, is it anyhow possible to do this?
Couldn't find any info about this, and I think it might be crucial for many. The point is not to loose the domain setup.
Thank you for any info.
Cheers,
Jan.
