NAS - Expansion Storage

#1
Hi, love the videos you created, really helped me choosing as NAS system and getting set up for the very 1st time. I have a quick question, I have a synology DS1520 NAS, 4 bays with 16tb HDD and the 5th with a 20tb HDD with Synology RAID SHR 2 Drive tolerance, Im slowly going to upgrade the 16TB HDD's to 20TB HDD's and was wondering if i can repurpose the 16TB in an expansion unit with no RAID as an additional backup with the function of backing up the main volume?

Yes, with SHR you can combine new and old under the same RAID (SHR). Or you can create a separate RAID using the remaining bays and expansion unit.

I hope this helps.
