NAS - Expansion Storage - Enquiries - 03-27-2023 Hi, love the videos you created, really helped me choosing as NAS system and getting set up for the very 1st time. I have a quick question, I have a synology DS1520 NAS, 4 bays with 16tb HDD and the 5th with a 20tb HDD with Synology RAID SHR 2 Drive tolerance, Im slowly going to upgrade the 16TB HDD's to 20TB HDD's and was wondering if i can repurpose the 16TB in an expansion unit with no RAID as an additional backup with the function of backing up the main volume? RE: NAS - Expansion Storage - ed - 03-30-2023 Yes, with SHR you can combine new and old under the same RAID (SHR). Or you can create a separate RAID using the remaining bays and expansion unit. I hope this helps. |
