Plex on NAS vs Plex on PC with storage on NAS

I'm running Plex now on a QNAP TS-451D2. It runs without issue however at times there are lags and I have to convert the file separately.

I've always wondered if running the plex server on a more powerful PC (I have access to alot) while connecting to NAS over gigabit network would provide better or worse or the same results.

This is obviously a very general question, but, you can assume this is a wired gigabit network - and the PC will be an i7 or i9 processor.
