| Synology DS920+ RAM Upgrade Issue? |

After watching and reading numerous posts here, I purchased a DS920+ for my Plex server. I had gotten about 5 docker containers setup for VPN's, Sonarr, etc. as well as the native app installation for Plex. Since the memory usage was getting fairly high without a high load on the system just yet, I bought a 16GB RAM module that was recommended in one of the channel's articles. After installing the RAM module, my DS920+ no longer boots up properly and the power button just flashes. If the RAM module is removed, things go back to normal. Am I just not able to use a 16GB RAM module?
RAM Module title and specs from Amazon:
Timetec Hynix IC
16GB DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300
Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V CL19
2Rx8 Dual Rank 260 Pin SODIMM

I am currently using a DS216+II (Intel Celeron N3060 1.6 GHz, 8192MB) remotely mainly for video streaming with dsvideo (w/ max 720p res) and photo and file categorizing (dsphoto/moments and dsfiles).
Now I am looking for NAS (DS/Qnap) as a new device for my Home Use Case with max 1500-2500EUR Budget which
is future proof from HW point of view (buying for the next 4-5 years) with built-in 10GbE port (or possibility extend (from 1 / 2,5 / 5 GbE) at least 6 Bays (or even 8)
will be used by max 2-3 uers (constantly mainly 1)
is a multimedia hub using for at least 1080p HD video streaming (or even 4K with HW transcoding)
is used for data backup and synchronisation
can be used by my wife for her photography business (post production: categorizing, archiving, sharing photos with clients)
might be used for raw (arw) photo editing (using Adobe Lightroom / Photoshop)
might be used to run her business website (using wordpress or similar base)
might be used for virtual machine deployment
Thank you very much for your help!
Best Regards,
Tamas

Further to my previous message I would like to purchase and install the following NAS configuration:
NAS-1 UK, Back-up, File server, Media server for 3 Macs, 2 iPads, 4 iPhones, 1 Apple TV etc - Synology DS 1520+ ?
NAS-2 GR, Off-site back-up, Media server for 2 Macs etc - Synology DS220+ ?
Current total net storage requirement ~5TB, expected to increase to 7 TB within 2 years
My questions:
- Is the choice of DS correct? - how much RAM, NVMe and HDD capacity should I go for?
- will syncing between the two NAS work even though my ISPs in UK and Greece will not provide me fixed IP addresses

Hi Rob,
QNAP sound like the system for me.
Looking for 2 x 2TB (mirror) just network drive
SSD? For €500? Hmm. Just checked and 1x2TB is €250...
Query /envisaged NAS use:
MAC Time Machine backup (over SMB?)
Windows pc backup - straight forward
NAS for all photos and accessed by mac/pc/android/iphone
2 home users
10 family members around the world with some folder access
Android and iphone to backup / transfer photos to NAS
Android/iphone to access NAS over Internet
As I have today, selected folders are synced to cloud so same data can be accessed from multi devices.
VERY IMPORTANT
For photos I want to physically backup onto M-Disk. NAS software that "knows" what are new photos and gets them ready for the next M-Disk backup (M-Disk is 100Gb)
Appreciate your support. If there are affiliated links for QNAP and Seagate ironwolf RED would be grand.
P.s. if near the same budget (I could add a few hundred) for 2× 2TB SSD. Worth it in terms of performance?
My Apple Time Capsule 500Gb HDD is a little sluggish when accessing doc folders. 30 sec for drive to wake up, spool up, secure connection, read data, send folder structure etc. Maybe it is just old.
Thanks again,
Donovan

I'm planning to purchase a Synology DS1621+ to use as my primary storage drive for a large photo catalog. I plan to use 4 x WD Ultrastar drives in RAID 10. I'd like to edit directly off the NAS, so I will upgrade to 10GBe via PCIe. Hoe much (if at all) would my use case benefit from upgrading M.2 NVMe and/or RAM? Thank you.

Hi, I am looking for Home NAS. Looking to configure it in Master/Slave mode - where NAS is Master for all data (personal/photos/movies) and Google Drive is a slave - and publically facing as an additional backup for 3 main tasks: Photos - Google Photos, Drive for Big home movies (avg. 6-10GB each file) and personal files. Not planning to backup all of the files - only specific. I should be good to go with 2TB Google Drive and 6-8TB of NAS. What would you recommend?
