NAS Server? |

Hi,
Thanks for your great review videos, really enjoyable.
I'm trying to determine what NAS server is best for my small business.
At the moment I am working from home, but we have a small office for 3-4 employees.
Our company is an Architecture and Geospatial consultancy, and we work with big files such as CAD, 3D and photoshop files.
We rarely use any media or video data.
Recently we have been dealing with Point cloud files that come from our survey equipment, and these can be around 2-10 GB in size.
We currently have a WD My Cloud NAS server, but need an additional collaborative server for more of our data storage. It's important we can access remotely also.
I cannot decide between the below:
- Synology DS718+
- WD my cloud ex4100
- QNAP TS-431p
Would you mind advising which would be acceptable?
Thank you for your support.

I'm a Plex head. I've made the gaffe of trying to run my Plex through my (very decent spec) PC by stuffing it with big hard drives. It's a pain in the arse to be honest. Most of my media is 4K movies with Dolby Atmos sound. At the moment, I'm suffering from buffering and I have to leave my PC on for far longer than I'd like to. I'd like a QNAP TVS872XT (your fault). Start off with maybe 3 big drives and add more as I need to. When it comes to RAID, can you keep adding drives and the RAID will sort itself out? Or is it more complicated than that? If you have a video on that very subject by all means link me in. I've gone through about 30 of your vids so far, excellent stuff.

Howdy from the Lone Star State,
I found (so far) three NAS Setup Guides you've created. Trying to figure out which one I should watch to get my DS1621+ up and running.
A bit confusing seeing so many of the same guides in your channel. Guidance appreciated!
Thanks

We are OSX and iOS people family, and need to offload from the big free cloud place. Reasons for NAS:
#1 Photos (family, places, things, events, facial recognition)
#2 Migration of Personal Cloud Documents
#3 Scan important files from cabinet that never would never consider to be on the cloud
#4 Quicktime Screen Video recordings
#5 The occasional tv show for short term storage and playback
#6 Maybe security video capture
Looking for intelligent suggestion on which NAS to choose among QNAP and Synology or other. Or if you have a decision tool like a form or spreadsheet that ranks recommendations based on your preferences and intended use?

Cheap SAS Nas or SAS extension enclosure? |

Hi, I bought 8 SAS hard drives WD HC550 18TB, I need a cheap NAS or a Qnap extension enclosure for them (currently i have 5 nas Qnap TS-832x with 16gb ram).
I beleive I should buy a SAS extension card and a sas enclosure like TL-R1220Sep-RP, no? is it compatible with my nas? or is there anything less expensive?
I dont need extra functionalities, just be able to use RAID and a fast connection, I got everything under 10gb network.
Thanks for your support

Hi
love the reviews you do, they are great and good to see the market for different NAS systems; especially as I am a novice in this area.
I currently have a DS218Play (4gig) that I set up last year as a toe in the water experiment. I have more HD content added constantly and I have out-grown my current set up and therefore looking for a new purchase of the NAS enclosure to then add additional HDD.
I saw the new DS420+/DS920+ systems were released last year and fit my needs for HD and 4K. However, the question is how often are the systems refreshed. Is it a 2-year cycle or a single year refresh for the hardware? also for the expansion system, Dx517 seems to be an "old" system that hasn't been refreshed recently. do you see a new expansion enclosure coming any time soon?
thanks for any advice and keep up the great videos.

Hello there,
I hope everything is going well with you
I am writing this message to ask you for an advice. I need NAS for a small office [18 endpoints, and 1 Windows server].
We will use MSP360, to perform an image backup for the devices mentioned early, and store those images on a NAS.
Can you please recommend a NAS for me
I cannot wait for your reply
Thanks in advance
