  Synology DS1522+ or Synology DS920+
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-12-2022, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hi, I am looking for a media server for my movie collection. This is what I have in my Amazon cart but I am still undecided if this is exactly what I need. I am currently using two WD external hard drives WD_BLACK 5TB P10 Game Drive - Portable External Hard Drive HDD, however I am afraid after all the work i have put into making copies of my movies I will lose them without proper back up and I do use plex. To let you know I am 74 years old so when you exlpain things I will take some time to sort it all out. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X5MMGWG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QMSS528/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B084ZV1DN8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B087Z34F3R/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1.   PS5 SSD
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-12-2022, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hello!

I discovered your videos two days ago and now I am geeking out over SSD specs for my PS5 expansion. I have watched several of your videos and now my main concern is the operating temperature of the SSD.

In one of your videos, I remember the WDBlack SN850 running a little hotter than the Seagate Firecuda 530. I play my PS5 regularly, but not heavily. Do you have any concerns about the longevity of this SSD? Amazon has it on offer for $207 with heatsink.

Would you recommend that or going with the Firecuda?

I also noticed you had a decent first impression of the Nextorage; is there a particular reason that one didn't make your Summer 2022 recommendation list?

Thank you for your in depth videos and explanations. I had no idea I would be this interested.

Looking to replace a dead Synology DS1515+ to a Plex hosting server & Playback Solution
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-12-2022, 04:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

After powering down the DS1515+ it simply won't power on again. Given its several years old, I am looking for a replacement that would this time handle the PLex server/playback. I have looked at various videos you have hosted and I am unsure on how to best proceed. Given my old data is still on the 5 bay array (1 drive redundancy, using the synology raid system), I think I am limited to having to upgrade to a Synology NAS to have the drives/raid slotted directly in? This would mean the 920+ would not suit, and perhaps I would need to consider a 1520+, but given it's currently priced at $1200, it seems quite expensive for an older system, and I am again stuck with just 5 bays (I have several additional 4TB drives that I was hoping to use)?

What would be the current best Synology option for me to migrate to and enable it as a capable plex server/player?

Can I also consider QNAP solutions? - although I am concerned whether I can get my drive data back if I stick my drives them into QNAP...

Posted by: Enquiries - 07-11-2022, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hi,

I don't want to transcode the video. I want to play them on the Original resoulution. In this case the NAS need to be strong hardwelly?

I can buy a use nas like: ds116 with 2TB hdd for like 200 usd. I want to watch movies in 1080p from multiple devices (2-3 max) at one time, with no transcoding.

Is it good for it?

Thanks

Can anybody help

I’m looking at purchasing the DS420+
How am I best encrypting the files on my laptop’s hard drive that will work with the NAS both on-site and remotely keeping all the Synology features?

Kind Regards

Jackie

Dear,

Hope this mail finds You well? I'm one of yours subscriber on Youtube and need your advice. I'm searching for a NAS device - Synology or QNAP (due to support in my country) which will support my current needs and business.

So I need my NAS to support:
- mail service
- file server & synchronization
- data backup
- virtualization and virtual machines (up to 5 max)

So what is Your suggestion?

Stay well and hope to hear from You.

Thank You in advance.

  Upgrade or reconfigure?
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-11-2022, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hello,

I am looking for a better solution for managing my music, movies, video, and pictures. I currently have about 15,000 photos, 4000 songs, and 200 movies and 1000 videos (iphone videos). This is somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 GBs. I'm not sure if I need a new setup or just a change in my current setup for what I need.

My goal:
-Quickly be able to view and sort photos and videos into a folder structure (need fast thumbnail viewing and drag/drop to folders) current setup is very slow at loading thumbnails when mounted
-setup a scheduled backup of data on a separate drive
-access files remotely on mobile device or laptop (doesn't have to be a mounted drive when remote, web is fine)

Bonus:
-view/access photos and movies from local devices like a ROKU player

Current Setup:
-Google Nest Mesh WiFi Router
-Synology 2 bay NAS DiskStation DS218j
-WD Red 1TB NAS Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD10EFRX
-WD Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive WD20EARS

RED is MAIN NAS and the GREEN is Synology Hybrid Raid

  Which NAS should I buy?
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-10-2022, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

I use a Synology 415+ currently and I want to upgrade due to tha age of my current NAS and because I also want to virtualise Windows for some programs that do not run on my Mac. NAS is otherwise used as a file server, Time Machine Backup Server and to run a couple of Docker containers. I was thinking about the DS 1522+ But I‘m not sure if this machine can offer a decent virtualisation experience. Thanks and best regards, Ulli

  Synology NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-10-2022, 09:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hi I have a Synology 1515+ which has a well documented power issue, it fails and doesn't start, it's a well documented issue with a SMD transistor failing. I have changed this and it will work for a few months and fails again. Are you aware of this issue and if so do later variants such as the 1522 have a similar issue.? My second question I have a 19in wall mounted rack, if I go for a entry level rack nas 4 bay (Synology) are the screws on the front stong enough without rails or a shelf? Thank you Vince
