  Plex server
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-24-2022, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, first of all love your channel Iv learned a great deal of information. I had a question about what is the best way for me to host plex. After watching your videos I think a synolgy nas would be best. With blackfriday approaching I want be ready to purchase whichever we decide is best for me. As far the media files I plan to use not to sure about the format but most non 4K how ever I want to plan for the future in which I would like to use 4K. Also plan to store some work files that we can reach when not home. What would be the best system for me?
Thank you in advance.

  WD Sentinal RX4100 motherboard failure
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-24-2022, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi guys! Need some help. I have a old RX4100 Western Digital rack NAS which was working with 4x 2tb HDDs in Raid 5. However when I built my DS920+ and prepared to fire up the old RX4100 using windows server 2008 the fans power on but the motherboard does not initilise. I have narrowed it down to the mobo being dead (or the dotterboard power distribution board).

I have found a working RX4100 identical to mine for $500 AUD in my area. The question is if I swapped in the motherboard and power dotter board to get it back up and running would Windows Server 2008 firstly recognise the RAID array on the drives and secondly rebuild them.

What can I do? The 4x 2tb drives have some precious photos and I was in the process of backing them up to a secondary system. It failed at the most ridiculous time.

Can you help?

  Synology RS1221+RP Setup
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-23-2022, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Plex, Business, YouTube Content, Backup etc.

Hey great videos I'd like to chat more. I was recently looking at your series for setting up the NAS I have had a nas for years but have not used the full power of it. I have a DiskStation DS220+
and have learned quite a bit just looking at your content. I have recently upgraded to RS1221+RP and you mentioned regarding bandwidth and the LAN port. There are 4 LAN ports on the nas. Are you recommending to connect 2 of those port to my Switch to secure enough bandwidth for the media server?

I have bout the Crucial Ram 32GB, do you have and Synologys NVME with 10gb Port..

what is the best Synology NAS for me?
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-23-2022, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

hello,
I follow your videos and web about the SYNOLOGY NAS, which is one of the reasons that helped me decide to go for their NAS system.
I have a number of questions that I would love for your answer and help with:
Usage: backup of photos and video files (not 4K) and office possibility to edit photo/video editing from the NAS
Budget: 5000 NIS (1200GBP)
Volume: 16TB in RAID5 configuration.

I'm not an IT person, so I thought I'd go for an off-the-shelf product that lets me create a RAID5 NAS for backing up materials and working on them. and will allow the most convenient and clear definitions for the common man.
After some market research, I'm thinking of taking three 8TB HDDs (WD80EFZZ) costs in Israel, 3000NIL - 754GBP (for three units).
And I'm debating about the NAS itself between:
DS420J (230NIS - 578GBP)
DS420+ (1400NIS - 352GBP)
DS920+ (2870NIS - 721GBP)

What do you think is the best NAS for my needs?
In addition, are there differences in the built-in software of the NAS between versions, and the APP that can be run on them?

Thanks in advance,
Amir

  First NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-23-2022, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
Thanks for your videos. Have been considering a NAS for home use. Photos/Music/Some Videos/Documents. Had been considering Synology DS920+ having watch videos etc. Very open to suggestions. Would be used by me and potentially my wife and teenage kids.
One concern is that we live in an old house with Virgin internet that comes in by the TV in the living room. Presumably, as the router is there, the NAS would have to be and how big an issue noise would be.
Thanks,
Ben

  QNAP 664 or AS6706T Gen 2
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-22-2022, 06:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
first, thanks for your great channel, reviews and help.

I'm currently struggling between the new QNAP 664 or AS 6706T Gen 2.

The main usage will be Plex, from multiple locations, as I do travel a lot and I'm looking for an stable and capable NAS for it.

I do have the Synology 918+ and I was happy with it but I'm having a lot of issues over the network and need also at least 1 or two more bays.

Can you please let me know which you think it will be the best between both?

Thanks a million

  NAS. PLEX and 4K Playback
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-22-2022, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Guys,

Love your videos and they are so helpful. That being said I have a question.

I am building a new house and will be putting CAT 6 cable throughout the house. I would like to set up a NAS system that will allow me to play backed up native 4K movies from a NAS to my 4K OLED tv (Ethernet port & wiFi 6 available) and sound from Denon AVC-X4700H receiver. The NAS will also be used for Data backup, photo/video storage. I will be a sole user of the NAS so wont be any multiple uses needing to use the system at once.

My Network will consist of a Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE and FS Network Switch (S3150-8T2FP, 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet L2+ PoE+ Switch, 8 x PoE+ Ports@130W, with 2 x 1Gb SFP, Fanless)

Is a HDMI out on a NAS required to play back native 4k smoothly or can this be done via the LAN?

Can you recommend a NAS that will allow me to do all of this OR is this a case of wanting to have my cake and eat it too?

Thank in advance and looking forward to your reply.

Regards,
- Lang

  Nextorage quality
Posted by: Enquiries - 10-21-2022, 11:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, thank you for the awesome content and reviews. It is really appreciated.

I have read some reviews from Amazon on the nextorage having quality issues and failing a few months in. Have you had the same issues? Or have you heard of anything like this?

I'm trying to determine if: Nextorage, Firecuda 530, SN850/850X, or the Samsung 980 pro might be the way yo go with a heatsink from the factory and the stock ps5 cover or the aftermarket sorbent heatsink.

My biggest concern is quality and heat.

Thank you!
