Hey, im thinking abort buying a synologi NAS. Im unsure if i should get the ds723+ because of the upgradability. Or if the ds224+ sould be enough for movie streaming. I have a 100mpb internet, and would be great to stream outside my house. I am also open for other brands but I dont thin all brands are easy to get in norway. I do really apriciate your help!

Same issue...
A quick thought / question:
Does Plex (or the Terramaster NAS) require media folders to have specific names or folder hierarchies?
I tried to create a shared folder called "Music" which is also the default Plex library name for music media files, but this had the same issue - the library is always empty even though it is pointing to the NAS folders that contain the music files.
It is not clear which NAS user account Plex Media Server uses, which might be a reason why the NAS shared folders are not being "read" by the Plex library. There seems to be a "hidden" user called "plex", which does not appear as a NAS user or a member of any group in the NAS GUI, but is shown as the owner of the "Plex" shared folder.
Information on how Plex works on a NAS seems to be very patchy....I've watched several YT videos on "how to set up Plex on a NAS" (including those for TerraMaster) an

Hello,
I bought my current NAS from you guys (SPAN.COM) back in late 2019. I’m looking to buy a new system but don’t like the fact that Synology have removed DS Video. I know i can use other options like Plex, Emby or Jellyfin but i don’t really like them and that’s why i have stuck with Synology for the last 12 years.
I also don’t like that accessing my media requires additional costs with Plex/Emby. I know i can put back DS Video after DSM 7.2.2 upgrade but how long will that last moving forward.
I just want an out of the box NAS system that provides me with the tool set to stream my media to all my friends and family without the need for 3rd party applications mentioned above.
Maybe QNAP would be the way to go but i would like to get your thoughts, help and guidance on the subject before i move forward and drop Synology.
Many thanks,
Chris

I have a qnap ts464 in my house and just got a ts262. I placed the 262 in my friends house and want to set up HBS3 to backup my home NAS (the 464) to the ts262. I enabled RTRR and tried using the public IP addres but it would not connect. Any ideas?

Hello, I have a question about Pi-Hole, there are many videos on YouTube, but it is not really clear. Especially because Pi-Hole has been further developed and some things do not match the latest version. Could you please pay attention to this, because I am going crazy with all the advertisements and trackers.
Especially in the world we live in now, security has really become an important thing every day!!!
Best of regards. Peter Scholte
Still a QNAP Fan ;-)

Hi
Further to your previous mail. I cannot rebuild raid. All it talks about is storage pool. If I try to repair with 3 discs in my 4 bay ds 920 + it just says I need to add drive 4 to repair degraded storage pool
I want to get back to situation where I have 3 drives in storage pool and 1 hot spare.
I have dsm 7.2
I am a beginner.
I dont want to start from scratch as I would lose all my settings.
Thanks in anticipation

QNAP TS-664 vs Asustor AS6706T |

I have for a long time considered setting up my own NAS to replace my subscriptions on Onedrive and streaming services. I jumped into the abyss of Youtube and found your channel, and consequently, your website. I have found a good place for my new hobby on your channel due to excellent content.
Now, to my question. As suggested in the title, I am split between the QNAP TS-664 and Asustor AS6706T, local prices comparable.
My plan is to use the NAS for storing my personal files as well as using it as a media server (probably Plex or Jellyfin) which includes need for Transcoding. The NAS itself is going to be connected to a 2.5 Gbe setup (10 Gbe in the future) in my living-room, so noise is a concern aswell.
I am somewhat of a tinkerer, so I don’t mind fiddling with the NAS, but I don’t feel comfortable with making it DIY solution. With all this in mind, which is best for me?
Thanks in advance

hi, am trying to decide between getting a bigger gas, say 8 bays now for expansion or a 4 bay and then a add-on later. I've not seen this sort of pro/con type video. I currently have a T5-221 but its getting long in the tooth
thanks
