Best NAS for Unraid Plex server
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I've built a large unraid server that's replaced all the services in my home. I travel a lot and it's been the best solution out there. I'd like to find a NAS that I can put my own motherboard/cpu in or at least a NAS that has a pretty powerful intel cpu with UHD 750 or greater graphics. I once tried a QNAP 16 bay NAS which I considered pretty perfect but unfortunately the manvel (spelling) cpu was not supported by unraid.

Do you know of any large "all in one" solutions?

  My first Nas purchase.
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Greetings I have been watching a lot of your vids trying to educate myself. I think I'm ready to make a purchase but I feel reached an impass. I have flip flopped between the qnap 464 and Ds 923+ for a number of reasons. I'm mostly looking for a Nas to help back up photos and videos of me and my family, But I want to option to do it from our cell phone almost like a cloud backup. I want to make it easier for my wife so there's no tinkering on Her end. I also planned to store long-term audio and video recording of game guides we have worked on and continue to work on.

Extra details
We live in a small apartment With a toddler. Very little experience with Nas setups. Fairly advance with PC setups, can troubleshoot most issues. I built all of our PCs.

  Accessing NAS from PC
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I have found your Youtube vids to be really informative. Thx a lot for those.
My problem: I bought a DS923+ NAS. Installed all the bits & pieces, checked everything out, loaded up a few TB of data, all OK. All done from a single PC. On the PC, it all works as expected. Explorer/Network show it, files can be accessed fine.
Then I moved to a second PC (both PC's Win10-pro, all up to date). On the other PC, Explorer also shows the NAS. Chrome Browser happily accesses it so I can run DSM (7.2), change anything I want.
BUT, if I click on the NAS in explorer, I'm asked to enter user/password (for Credentials). I enter the correct name and password that it was set up as, and get told the username/password are incorrect. They are absolutely definitely positively (OK, you get the point) correct, but for the life of me I can't connect to it, to use it.
I'm guessing there is a simple tick-box buried in DSM that I need to check, but have no clue where to look. Can you help ??

QNAP NAS TS 451 - setup
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there,
I came across your great videos on Youtube. Thank you very much for the effort in educating uneducated people like me Smile

i am completely new to QNAP NAS and am currently trying to wrap my head around following issue:

I installed the ownCloud application on my NAS. If I am trying to download apps for ownCloud in the Market place I get the error SSL certifivate expired/not valid. I downloaded the QNAP Ubuntu application to ssh into my NAS and create my own SSL certificates. Not working. Until it came to my mind that I am only installing a virtual machine on my NAS but not really accessing the NAS itself. What can I do to get the SSL installed?

Thank you so much for your advise.

best regards
Gunther

  WD Red Plus Drive Vibration
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 08:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have a 4 bay Synology NAS (DS421+). It has two WD Red 10 TB (WD100EAFX-68LPN0) and two 3TB (WD30EFRX-68EUZN0) drives fitted. I have purchased two new WD Red Plus 10TB (WD101EFBX-68B0AN0) drives to replace the 3TB drives and later will migrate all the drives to a new NAS (yet to be purchased). I swapped out one 3TB drive for a new WD plus drive and the noise and vibrations are really noticeable. Before I didn't not notice the NAS noise and now it can be heard 2 rooms away. I have measured the vibrations of the drives when powered up individually  in an external caddy. The old 3TB (5400rpm) drive has a peak frequency of 89.9 Hz and peak acceleration of 0.1 m/s². The new 10TB plus drives have a peak frequency of 119.9 Hz. One has a peak acceleration of 1.1 m/s² and the other 1.3 m/s². Is this acceptable? Will the vibrations damage the other drives. NAS noise means no longer suitable for a desktop environment Vibrations were measured using an accelerometer app on my phone.

  Synology 920 PLUS
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-04-2023, 09:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Synology 920 PLUS

As a NUBI to NAS I am still setting up my Synology 920 PLUS unit.
In File Station I have set up 6 Master Folders.
The unit has 2 users plus the admin user.
There are some folders accessible by both users.
One of the folders will be connected to our Home Projector.

I also want to setup an ISCSI Connection and assign a drive letter for each Master folder.

If I set up an ISCSI Connection will it FORMAT or effect the pre-existing Shared Folders I have already created and started to populate.

If I install docker or another package will it affect the info I have already installed in File Station or is each package separate.

I guess these are very basic questions but no one explains these things, or at least I cannot find the answer online.

I binge watched your Synology NAS Setup Guide, I found it fantastic but I am still am a bit lost about the ISCSI set up, or maybe I missed it in the 17 videos I watched.

  NAS upgrade for DS1821+
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-04-2023, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello to you,

I want to upgrade my NAS's (ReadyNAS Netgear NV+ and Seagate BlackArmor 400) to have only one NAS faster, easier to configure, PLEX application on it and more available spaces for future adding HDD or SSD to increase in size over time.
Presently my application PLEX is running on a server apart from my NAS because not supported. I was looking for the Synology DS1821+ because it’s 8 bays and not so expensive. I think it will solved most of my problems now (slow transfer, disconnection from network, better support-protection and not much applications on it). From what I could understand also, Synology can use different companies of HDD mixed so I could reuse my current HDD in the new NAS.
What do you think? Did I forget something important? I think not but you will tell me. ?
Thank you.

Broken QNAP TS-431 with RAID 5
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-04-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I have my QNAP TS-431, which is turning on for a while, start resyncing and then a couple of beeps and off again. This is happening awhile ago. There is no error, there is no log, just te beeps.

I was wondering if I can buy a Terramaster NAS and pop up my disks over there, do I have a chance to rebuild my RAID 5 over there?

Or is it better to just buy another QNAP NAS to get it working again?

Or maybe Im just screw and I can no longer access to my data?

PS: when QNAPs boots up, I can access to the data, is right there! I blow all the dust away, When I did that worked the same, then I factory reset (no format) and it worked for a couple of days... I was thinking to use som contact cleaner...

Please help!!!

  QNAP TS Hybrid Sync Failure
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-04-2023, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I have a daily backup up configured from the TS 464 using Hybrid Sync to a directly attached hard drive. The backup up runs successfully everyday on schedule.
However I am trying to use simple versioning to create multiple versions of the backup. Although an up to date backup coy is created each time that the job runs this replaces the previous copy and multiple copies are never created even though Version Management is enables.
The error message is Warning 2023-07-04 11:16:05 System 192.168.1.106 Web Desktop Hybrid Backup Sync Custom Job Event [Hybrid Backup Sync] Finished Backup job "Daily Backup to LaCie" with errors. Failed to create multiple versions for backup.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
