Re the ugreen 8800 plus. In theory could you install a data/sas card in the pcie slot (sas expander. Hmm) either with or without external ports and expand the physical number of disks in an external box or is that software locked? As you have one there to test with,.....

Hi,
I really enjoy watching your videos – thanks for the great content!
I’m currently looking for a NAS/server solution that could be considered an all-in-one powerhouse: quiet, compact, scalable, and future-proof. We’re in the process of building a new house and setting up the entire network infrastructure based on Ubiquiti, including 10G networking.
At the moment, I’m testing an F8 system running Xpenology. While the hardware is decent, I’m finding that TOS just isn’t mature enough for my needs.
I’m torn between the NAS systems mentioned in your video title.
What’s your personal recommendation or experience?
Best regards,
Stephan

More HDD Compatibility questions |

As a long time Synology customer, I have purchased several units and wanted to stay with the brand. However, I primarily used WD drives. Once I could see the writing on the wall that Synology was favoring their own drives, I started replacing my WD drives when they had a failure with Synology drives, so I now have a mix of WD and Synology drives. However, my Synology drives are all HAT3300 (and not HAT 3310) which seem to be the ones listed in the compatibility lists provided so far. So my questions are:
1) Will the Synology HAT3300 drives be considered as officially supported by Synology if I upgrade to a newer system.
2) If I decide not to go along with the Synology drive restrictions and go to QNAP for my next system, do you think the Synology HAT3300 that I have would run in the QNAP system since I don't see Synology drives listed on their supported list.
Thanks!

Remote QNAP backup over internet (OpenVPN) failing |

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to set up a remote backup from my home QNAP NAS to a second QNAP NAS at my in-laws' place, but the backup keeps failing and I’m not sure what I'm missing. Here's a breakdown of my setup and the issues I'm running into.
- Both NAS units are QNAP: a TS464 at home and a TS453D remotely.
- Remote site has dynamic IP, so I'm using DDNS via myQNAPcloud.
- Access to remote NAS is via OpenVPN, with one forwarded port on the router for VPN only.
- Backup is set up using RTRR Server on the remote NAS, for client-side encryption and version management.
- Initial backup was done locally to speed things up, and verify that the backup job works.
- The NASes originally were in the same IP range (192.168.x.x), which I've changed at my in-laws' router to avoid routing conflicts.
- Static route added via Network & Virtual Switch so traffic to the remote subnet goes through the VPN.
Storage Spaces was updated with the new fixed IP of the remote NAS.
OpenVPN connection works, but the backup job fails.
Log details show:
Info: "Using network interface 'Default Route'. Interface selection: Automatic."
Error: "Destination NAS does not support QuDedup. Check RTRR server connection and confirm HBS is updated to version 3.0 or later."
QuDedup wasn't an issue for the initial local backup.
QuDedup can’t be disabled in the current job, and new jobs targeting the remote NAS can't be created either.
While I was reviewing the backup job, I noticed one of its settings is about the interface. It's set to automatic, as the info event says. I can't force the job to use the VPN connection though.
Any help would be appreciated here!

First NAS, what to buy..? |

First time NAS purchaser and with so much on offer I'm a bit overwhelmed. I want something straight out of the box with an easy running system and it's going to be shared between myself and my wife and we are both non IT gurus. It has to work with both PC and IOS as we use both, can be accessed from anywhere in the world, will be used primarily for photos, documents and media. Would be nice to have the option to link it up to a smart tv to view things on the big screen. Must be able to run a VPN through it and primarily be used to store everything on the SSD's, rather than be just cloud based.
I have whittled it down to the Terramaster F4 SSD or a Synology DS 224+ but am also open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

My iSCI drive on my synology NAS (DS1019+) is no longer accessible / locatable on my iMac (Intel). The Kernsafe aSCSI initiator no longer seems to function - wont connect the drive. Possible arose folllowing either or both a DSM update or an apple o/s update.
where should I head to resolve this - new initiator ? which one works with Apple ?
thanks

Home NAS - Unraid |

Hello,
I'm looking for a silent NAS build with 4 bays to set up under a home environment. I purchased an Unraid Pro license many years ago, yet I frequently relied on using an external hard drive. I am now reaching a new storage requirement in the coming months, and I'm looking to see if I can consolidate this setup into a 2 x 10 TB RAID 1 cold storage build that will also allow me to maintain some storage for some surveillance footage.
My current budget as a general guideline is $1000 USD for the storage alongside the case, psu, and mobo. The household itself primarily uses Windows, and I am interested in having a feature-rich setup but not to go overboard as to end up building another PC. I checked the Jonsbo N2 setup but was a little intimidated and wondered if there are possibly setups without having to rely on AliExpress for the electronic parts.
Thanks,
Larry

Boa noite,
Gostaria de saber se esse modelo de NAS atenderia minha necessidade.
Requisitos:
- 100 Acessos simultâneos, com transferência e abertura de arquivos (pdf, excel, word, fotos, vídeos);
- Compartilhamento de arquivos (pdf, excel, word, fotos, vídeos);
- Edição de vídeos (1080P) pela rede;
- Transferência de arquivos de 3GB ou mais;
Obrigado.
