Plex and File Server

#1
Hey, I'm considering the DS423+ as a flex and file server. I would also need to buy HDs to fill, so that would be part of the budget. I would mostly stream locally to a TCL roku tv (55R655), apple tv 4k, macbook pro m1, or ipad/iphone.

Was considering two manufactured recertified Exos X20 TB from serverpartdeals.com Open to suggestions here.

I would probably run some redundant system until I actually get close to filling up a 20TB drive. I don't know the official raid terms, so definitely will need to research that more first.

Would the 423+ be the right call or should I consider a 923+ and use my gaming PC as the Plex server and use synology's DSM for the file server? PC has a 5800x3D and 4090.

Certainly! The DS423+ is an excellent choice for your local media streaming needs. With its quad-core processor and 4GB of RAM, it's more than capable of handling Plex for smooth streaming to your TCL Roku TV, Apple TV 4K, MacBook Pro M1, iPad, and iPhone. You won't need a separate PC for Plex; this NAS can handle it all. It's energy-efficient, quiet, and designed for home use, so it won't disrupt your space. You can tailor its storage capacity to your needs, and it supports various RAID configurations for data protection. Synology's user-friendly mobile apps make it easy to access your media library on your mobile devices.
Maybe consider WD Red or Ironwolf drives, they are quieter https://amzn.to/3MkhhBU
