NUC rec for 4k transcoding

#1
Hello, I've been on the market for a Synology NAS for quite some time. Last week, I purchased the 1522+ because it was on a deep discount -- cheaper than 923+, but with an extra bay and 8gb ECC. I quickly discovered the challenges of AMD processor with 4K transcoding and decided that a NUC with the 1522+ as a DAS is best.

I did not see a subsection for NUCs and simply wanted to ask your recommendation for price/performance models. Given the limited availability, high premium, and relatively old hardware that synology provides for transcoding variants, I think it may be helpful to make a resource or video on how to incorporate NUCs to unlock more usage from non-intel NAS.

I noticed there's more videos on creating your own NAS, but I simply dont have the capacity to make my own yet. Would appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thanks in advance.

Given your requirements for remote 4K transcoding and compatibility with your Synology NAS, the Intel NUC 12th Mini PC with the Core i5-1240P processor, 32GB DDR RAM, and a 512GB SSD appears to be a suitable choice. Its 12-core/16-thread processor and high-performance components should handle the demands of transcoding and streaming 4K content effectively. Additionally, the inclusion of Windows 11 Pro simplifies the setup process and ensures you have access to the latest features. With this NUC, you can achieve smooth and efficient 4K transcoding and streaming, enhancing your multimedia experience.
