Looking for advice on nas purcahse

#1
Looking to purchase a Nas for home use, main use would be for Backup of Photos from family mobiles, Plex (90% home use maybe a few remote users and odd one whilst traveling)

Would be looking for it to be a Homelab with maybe 1 or 2 VM's

I have been looking at the following.

Qnap tvs 474
Flashtor 6 or 12 (cost of storage putting me off)
asustor lockstor 8
Synology 1621+

In terms of the options you've mentioned for home use, the QNAP TVS-H474 stands out as the best choice. It features an Intel Pentium Gold G7400 2-core/4-thread 3.7 GHz Processor and 64-bit x86 CPU architecture, providing solid performance. Additionally, it comes equipped with Intel UHD Graphics 710, which can enhance multimedia capabilities. This makes it well-suited for your intended usage, including photo backups, Plex streaming, and running a couple of VMs.

The next recommended option is the Synology DS1621+. Although it features a slightly less powerful CPU compared to the QNAP TVS-H474, it still offers a reliable and feature-rich solution for home use. It provides ample performance for photo backups, Plex streaming, and basic virtualization needs.

The other models you mentioned, such as the Flashtor 6 or 12 and the Asustor Lockstor 8, are based on Celeron processors. While they can still serve your needs, the cost of storage associated with these models may be a drawback to consider.
