HDD selection

#1
Hi Team,

I've followed your channel and website for a number of years, appreciate the insights you've provided. I'm using a 2-bay QNAP TS-251B with a single WD Gold 8TB for 4y+ now. I'm thinking about getting a secondary disk to have RAID-1, as my disk could fail anytime. Instead of getting another WD Gold 8TB, I'm thinking about WD Gold 16TB, very good price per GB. I want to utilise that 16TB disk for the Synology DS924+ that I'm hoping to buy by the end of this year. What do you think about that? I don't want to use the QNAP NAS in the near future as I don't like its software capability anymore.

Many thanks!

Regards,
Hien

Yes, you can either set them both in RAID1 mirror or you can set two separate volumes in order to maximise the storage space. You can automate backups from drive 1 to a drive 2.
You can later use one or both drives in Synology SHR.
