The DS423+ would be a suitable choice for your NAS Plex server needs. It has the capability to handle 1080p movies through Plex and even 4K movies using the Video Station app. Since you mentioned that you mainly watch 1080p movies with occasional 4K content, the DS423+ can efficiently meet your requirements. As for the hard drives, it's generally recommended to use reliable NAS drives specifically designed for continuous operation. Popular options include Western Digital Red, Seagate IronWolf, or Toshiba N300 drives. These drives are optimized for NAS environments, offering enhanced reliability, performance, and data protection features. It's advisable to choose drives with sufficient capacity to accommodate your media library and allow for future expansion.
